Math with the Davis Dyslexia Program

• For at last five years we have used Davis Dyslexia Program to teach children letters and numbers

• The method is a multidimensional learning style which suits very well for young children

• You can read more about Davis Dyslexia Program here

Math with the Davis Dyslexia Program

• In this practice we exercise counting with the help of dice and what the dots on the dice mean

• The children are handed clay which they are to use to make the number of balls which the teacher specifies

• The teacher writes down on the whiteboard how many balls they are to make from 1 to 6

One dot and the number one

Two dots and the number two

…etc …

Numbers

Learning the name of the numbers

• We noticed that many of the children did not know the names of the numbers

• So we got them some plastic numbers and started to play with them

• The children played with dice and the plastic numbers• With the numbers we were able to compare them and

put them on the right order • We talk about:

– Which numbers are higher or lower then surden numbers– Which number equals to the number of dots on the dice

Throw the cube…

Is this the one ?

..and then pick up the right one

This number equals the dots on the cube...

Hey! Now I have 41

..and I have 32

..and I have higher than you, I have 133
