Student-led tours will follow. No need to register. If another time works better, email Jeff Thompson at [email protected] to set up a tour. Visit capecodacademy.org to learn more. The holiday season draws near. The members of the Executive Board of the Civic Association are very grateful for the support received from Villagers throughout the past year. We also wish everyone a very Happy Thanksgiving and a very joyous Christmas. Once again, the Association is organizing the series of events that are Christmas in Cotuit. This year’s date is December 7. The full slate of activities is set forth below and can be found on the Association’s web site at cotuitcivicassociation.com. Remember that there is always a lot of pedestrian traffic in the heart of the Village on this day as people, including many youngsters, go from venue to venue enjoying all that there is to offer, from the horse drawn carriage ride at the Post Office to the Kettle Ho, Library and the Fire Station. There is an especially large amount of foot traffic crossing Main Street in the area of Town Dock in the time before Santa’s arrival and then immediately after that as people head up to Memorial Park to meet and greet Santa in person. If you are driving in the town that day, please be considerate and drive slowly, and obey the volunteers who are trying to ensure safety. And be patient! It would be a shame for anyone to get hurt and spoil the fun. You should have received a notice from the Cotuit Fire District about upcoming meetings concerning a proposed new District building on November 12 and November 19. The meeting on the 19 th will be a Special District meeting at which a vote will be taken on a proposal to authorize funding the conceptual design of the proposed building. We encourage you to review the information on the District web site on this matter and to attend the meetings, especially the Special Meeting on the 19 th. Pres. Jim Dannhauser

Historical Society of Santuit & Cotuit (HSSC) The Historical Book Club will meet at 7:00 Thursday, December 5th, at Cotuit Library to discuss The Secret Token: Myth, Obsession and the Search for the Lost Colony of Roanoke by Andrew Lawler. All

are welcome to attend. The special exhibition Shifting Sands: The Story of Dead Neck Sampson’s Island will continue thru December 22nd, when the Historical Society’s homestead and museums will close for the season. Cotuit Federated Church will host a Blood Drive on

November 25th from 9:00 to 3:00. We will also host the Compassionate Friends Worldwide Candle Lighting on December 8th.  Light a candle for all children who have died, that their light may always shine. Bereaved family and

friends are invited. Bring a framed photo to share and a votive candle.  Doors open at 6:00 and the candle service begins at 6:45. Sponsored by the local Hearts, Hope, and Healing in conjunction with The Compassionate Friends. A Longest Night Service for Remembrance and Healing will be held on December 21st at 7:00.  This service is for those who have experienced a loss of a loved one, work, or relationship.  Candles will be lit to remind us God’s light shines in our darkest hour and during our longest nights.  We will also hold Community Christmas Eve worship services on December 24th at 4:30 and 8:00. Everyone is invited to attend a community potluck open house between the services.  For more information about all activities, call 508-428-6163. Friends of the Cotuit Library will be participating in

the Arts and Crafts Festival at Freedom Hall.   They will be selling jars of Friendship Soup ingredients which make

great teacher, neighbor and hostess gifts as well as a staple in you own cupboard.  Don’t miss out! Contra Dance at Freedom Hall, December 14th and EVERY 2nd Saturday all year round. - Cotuit Contra Dance, at Freedom Hall. With live music and a caller to

guide dancers through the steps, anyone can join the fun.  7:30 - 10:30, with lessons at 7:15 for newbies so you can jump right in. December features Jenn Jasenski & George Thompson calling with live music by The Resemblace: Anna Magee

you there! Cahoon Museum of American Art Winter Party: Winter Wonders, Friday, December 13th, 5:00 – 7:00, Admission Free. Join us for our 2nd annual Winter Wonders party. The event includes: Cahoon in Bloom, a spectacular display of floral arrangements by designers form the Osterville Garden Club; a signature raffle which includes a sailors valentine by artist Gregg Roberts; a newly stocked

Museum Shop; a silent auction of works by Howard Bonington, Hilary Hutchison, Marion Waldron Nicastro Carol Jean-O’Toole, Gary Oro  and David Sigel; refreshments, music and fun activities for families. Weaving demonstrations with Artist-in-Residence Gretchen Romey-Tanzer: Friday, November 15; Saturday, November 30; Thursday, December 5; Saturday, December 14. Free with Museum admission. Stop by the Museum anytime between 1:00 and 3:00 and watch Gretchen at the loom, ask questions, learn about weaving techniques, and view the artwork on display in her current exhibition, Inspirations. Museum Docent Spotlights: Tuesdays, Thursdays at 11:00; Sundays at 1:30. Free with paid admission; members free. Stop by the museum during docent spotlight hours and spend 20 minutes with a trained docent who will offer a deeper understanding of the museum’s story and bring the collection and exhibitions to life. Cotuit Center for the Arts hosts its Annual Member Arts + Crafts Market on Saturday, December 7th, from 9:00

to 3:00. Admission is free. The Craft Fair features unique and beautiful handmade gifts for the holidays, including many one-of-kind items. The show supports local artisans who produce fine arts, photography,

jewelry, clothing, handwoven items, textile art, greeting cards, home furnishings, and more. “Constellations” at Cotuit Center for the Arts Back by popular demand, CCftA presents “Constellations,” a play by Nick Payne, in the Black Box Theater, December 5th to 22nd. Performances are Thursday through Saturday at 7:30 and Sunday at 2:00. The Cape Cod Times wrote of the original performance, presented in February of this year, “Kudos to director Jason Mellin for bringing this production to the Black Box and for handling it so masterfully.” Two Evenings with Tom Rush and Matt Nakoa at Cotuit Center for the Arts. Legendary folk icon Tom Rush returns to Cotuit Center for the Arts for An Evening with Tom Rush and Matt Nakoa. In response to popular demand, there will be two performances: Monday, December 2nd, at 7:30 and Tuesday, December 3rd, at 7:30.
