E~tC?n county farmers may now participate in the w1dely publi­cized Soil Bank program accord­ing to Bill Krmball, Eaton county assistant agricultural agent.

Representatives of Eaton County agrkultural Stabilization and Conservation committee, Soil Cdnservation servJ.ce and Coo­perative Extension service travel­ed to Kalamazoo on Friday, June 15 where they obtained parti­culars for setting up the county program.

Wbaf is the' Soil Bank Program? The Soil .Bank Act was passed

on May 29, 1956 as the basis for this program i'or the reduction of surplus production. It has two maw parts: Acreage Reserve wll:ich, broadly, is the part of th~ So1l Bank Act that pertains to reduction of acreages in allotment crops. This ipart of the program is set up completely for full opera­tion immediately, and Conserva­tion Reserve, the part of the Soil Bank program for putting 1and into soil conserving crops for a period of hme-not complete· ly set up at the present time .

Any farmer may participate who complies with the wheat acreage allotment and the corn base acreage (for corn th1s is the 1951-2-3 average for the farm or 17.8% more than the 1956 corn allobnent) which has been es­tablished for each farm. Excep­tion-a farmer may have up to 15 acres o:f wheat1 even though his wheat all-0tment is less and still be eligible for the corn acreage reser:ve progriarn,
