REJOICE AND BE GLAD

During the first three or four centu-ries of Christianity, if you asked a Christian to name the feast days of the church, your answer would have been a puzzled stare, for there was only one feast: the Resurrection of the Lord. Every Sunday was a feast celebrating the one great feast. Even though our calendar now has many

beautiful and holy feasts, we must continually be called back to the fact that all these other feasts exist because of the feast of Christ’s Passover from death to life. The psalm today proclaims this message well: “This is the day.” It is not one of many days, but it is the day of all days, the one that gives all the others their origin, pur-pose, meaning, and destiny. Listen carefully to Peter’s speech in Acts with its recollection of the Passion, to the words of the apostle Paul, and to the account of Mary Magdalene, John, and Peter finding the empty tomb, and you will hear the many wonderful works that God has done for us through Christ. Durante los primeros tres o cuatro siglos del cristianismo, si se le preguntaba a un cristiano el nom-bre de las fiestas de la Iglesia, su respuesta habría sido una mirada de sorpresa porque había una sola fiesta: la Resurrección del Señor. Cada domingo era una celebración de la gran fiesta. A pesar de que nuestro alendario tiene ahora muchas fiestas hermosas y antas, continuamente debemos ser llamados de nuevo al hecho de que todas estas fiestas existen a causa de la fiesta del paso (Pascua) de Cristo de la muerte a la vida. El Salmo de hoy proclama este mensaje así: “Este es el día”. No es uno de muchos días, pero es el día de todos los días, el que da a todos los demás su origen, propósito, significado y destino. Escuchen con atención el discurso de Pedro en Hechos recordando la Pasión, las palabras del apóstol Pablo y al recuento que hacen María Magdalena, Juan y Pedro al encontrar la tumba vacía, y oirán las obras maravillosas que Dios ha hecho para nosotros en Cristo. ¡Alégrense y regocíjense! Estamos necesitando acomodadores (quienes saludan y pasan la colecta), Lectores (personas que proclaman

de modo de facilitarles lo más posible, el servir en estos Mi-nisterios Litúrgicos, para que se acomoden en el programa

de cada quien.

planeando las sesiones de entrenamiento para cada ministe-rio. Por favor consideren el servir en uno de estos ministe-

Liturgical Ministers Needed

We are in need of Ushers (greeters and collection tak-

ers), Lectors (persons who proclaim the scripture read-ings), Sacristans (persons who set up for Mass), Ex-

traordinary Ministers of Holy Communion and Altar Sev-ers at all of our weekend Masses. We try to assign min-

isters to the Mass of their choice so as to make serving

in these Liturgical Ministries an easy thing to do within one’s schedule.

All ministers must complete the Compliance Training as a part

of their preparations. Sessions for training to do the particular ministry are being planned. Please consider serving in one of

these ministries at the Mass you regularly attend. We will be taking sign-ups in the near future.

Health Programs to start this week

Representatives of the Pima County Health Depart-

ment will be presenting two different programs pro-moting a healthy life style. Both programs are offered

free of charge. Sign-up sheets are on the table in the vestibule.

Healthy Living: Managing Ongoing Health Conditions

This is a workshop developed by Stanford University to help adults and caregivers successfully live with ongoing health

conditions. It is a series of 6 sessions meeting once a week from 5:30 until 8:00 PM. It will be offered in English on

Tuesdays beginning April 10th.

Walking Program Interested parishioners will meet once a week for 6 weeks.

Each week a different health topic is presented. This is fol-lowed by a group activity and concludes with a 30 minute

walk (at one’s own pace). This program will be offered in English and Spanish. The series in English will be offered on

both Tuesdays (beginning on April 10th) and Thursdays

(beginning on April 12th). The series will also be offered in Spanish on Thursdays (beginning on April 12th). Starting

time for these sessions will be 6:00 PM.

Representantes del Departamento de Salud del Conda-do Pima presentarán dos programas distintos que pro-moverán un estilo de vida saludable. Ambos programas son gratuitos.

Vida Saludable: Manejando Problemas Actuales de Salud

Este es un taller desarrollado por la Universidad Stan-ford para ayudar a los adultos y los cuidadores a vivir bien con problemas actuales de salud. Es una serie de 6 sesiones que se reunirán una vez por semana de 5:30 a 8:00 PM. El progra-ma enseña como manejar la salud por medio de interacción, establecer objetivos y planes de acción. Este se ofrecerá en inglés los martes a partir del 10 de abril.

Programa de Caminata Los parroquianos que se interesen se reunirán una vez por se-mana por 6 semanas. Cada semana se presentará un tema diferente sobre la salud. Después se hará una actividad en grupo y concluirá con una caminata de 30 minutos (a su paso). Este programa se ofrecerá en inglés y español. La serie en inglés se ofrecerá en ambos los martes a partir del 10 de abril, y los jueves empezando el 12 de abril. La serie también se ofrecerá en español los jueves empezando el 12 de abril. Estas sesiones se ofrecerán a las 6:00 PM.

Mothers’ Day Novena In celebration of Mothers’ Day, we will have a Novena of Masses. The series of 9 Masses will begin with the

Anticipated Mass of Sunday at 5:00 PM on Saturday, May 12th and include every Mass on Sunday, May

13h (Mothers’ Day) through the Daily Mass of Thurs-

day May 17th. Novena envelopes are in the mailed packets and will be on the table in the vestibule beginning next week-

Training Sessions for Spanish Speaking Altar Servers

There will be 2 training sessions for Spanish speaking

children who have celebrated their First Communion and

who wish to serve as Altar Servers at the 1:00 PM Sun-day Mass in Spanish and/or 7:00 PM Sunday Bilingual

Mass. The sessions will be on Monday evenings at 7:00 PM in the church on April 23rd and 30th.

Have fun while helping to raise funds for Catholic Community Services which provides for seniors, including home-delivered meals and congregate nutrition sites, Barrio Viejo and Casitas on East Broadway low-income senior housing, medical and dental care through St. Elizabeth’s Health Center, counseling, and a hearing aid bank through the Community Outreach Pro-gram for the Deaf. CCS helps individuals and families without regard to age, gender, race, or religion.

The Road Rally is a 1/1/2 to 2-hour driving tour of Tucson that starts at St. Cyril of Alexandria Parish)and ends at Tucson Country Club. It will be held on Saturday, April 28, 2012. Rally teams gather at St. Cyril’s Parish, 4725 E. Pima St., at 9:00 a.m. The rally will commence at 10:00 a.m. sharp; the awards lunch and silent auction at Tuc-son Country Club will begin at approximately 12:00 noon.

The fundraising minimum for each team (a car with at least two persons) is $500. You can collect pledges in advance from co-workers, family and friends, or you can donate the full amount yourself. It’s up to you!

This is not a race. Vehicles range from pick-up trucks to sports cars, from car club show-stoppers to everyday autos.

CCS ayuda a individuos y familias sin determinar edad, sexo, raza o religión. El Road Rally es un tour de manejar por 1 ½ a 2 horas por Tucsón que empieza en la parroquia de San Cirilo de Ale-jandría y termina en el Country Club de Tucsón. Se llevará a cabo el sábado 28 de abril del 2012. Los equipos de rally
