States of Matter Stations Lab

1. You will be observing 3 types of matter: oobleck, glurch, and glorax. Make a data chart to record your observations.

2. At each station use all your senses except taste to make observations. Pull it, push it, roll it in a ball. Decide if your observations are properties of solids, liquids, or gases. Record all your observations in the data table.

3. After your observations determine if the property is a solid, liquid or gas.

States of Matter Characteristics

of a Gas Part IProblem: Explain the effects of temperature on a gas.Materials: Empty plastic bottle, beaker with ice water, beaker with warm/hot water, balloonProcedures: Place the balloon over the opening of the empty water bottle. Place the bottle in the hot water bath observe what happens to the bottle and the balloon. Document your observations. Remove the bottle from the hot water bath. Immediately place the bottle in the ice water bath. Document your observations.

States of Matter Characteristics of a Gas Part 2

Problem: Explain the effects of temperature on a gas.Materials: Plastic cup, paper towel, water, and iceProcedures: Fill a plastic cup with warm water completely dry the outside of the cup. Touch the outside of the cup. What do you see and feel? Document your observations. Empty the cup and dry the outside of the cup. Fill the cup with ice water. Observe the outside of the cup. Document your observations.

Conclusion • What state of matter is ooblek? Give

evidence to support your answer.• What state of matter is glurch? Give

evidence to support your answer/• What state of matter is glorox? Give

evidence to support your answer.• How is all of the matter alike? How is it

different?• What effect does change in temperature

of on a gas?
