“With over 40 years of existence, The COPPEAD Graduate School of Business – Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, also known as the University of Brazil – is the only internationally accredited School of Management belonging to the Brazilian public system.

The Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), almost 100 years old, is not only one of the oldest and most respected higher education institutions in Brazil, but also the largest university in the federal educational system.

Our mission is to contribute to the development of Brazil by providing education to present and future business leaders who are able to perform highly both in the local and global environment, and to new faculty who can disseminate and create innovative knowledge in business.

Our commitment to excellence, integrity and global insertion is acknowledged by the Brazilian accreditation system (CAPES Foundation & ANPAD), the EQUIS accreditation granted by the European Foundation for Management Development and high scores in international rankings. Our Full-time MBA, public and tuition-free, is the only one in South America consistently ranked among the top 100 programs worldwide by the reputable Financial Times. Also, in 2014, our Executive MBA was included among the top 100 EMBAs in the Financial Times Ranking.

Our focus on relevance and international brand recognition is underpinned by an international development strategy that is part of our identity and culture, so as to ensure that the knowledge and skills imparted in our programs are in line with the realities of management in an internationally interdependent world, while reflecting a strong sense of global responsibility.

Our faculty is internationally renowned for its research and increasing number of publications in prestigious international journals. This, together with a continuous focus on innovation, both in pedagogy and course design, which emphasizes research knowledge transfer, speaks of COPPEAD's academic excellence.

We are proud of our roots, of the corporate recognition of the quality of our program portfolio and of the quality of our international alliances & partners. We are faithful to what we are and to what we strive to be, so that the COPPEAD brand stands out in the global scenario as a synonym of excellence, relevance, innovation, tradition and integrity.”

RESEARCH, INNOVATION & ENTREPRENEURSHIP DEFINING THE FUTURE

The UFRJ Technology Park is one of the nation's premier research and development facilities. A unique environment dedicated to the development of breakthrough technology and its transfer from the laboratories to the marketplace. In an area of 350 thousand square meters, in the Fundão Island campus, it is expected, by 2015/16, to generate over 5000 highly qualified research jobs.

The Technology Park is a vibrant world-class business community of innovative, high-tech corporate Research Centers. It is anchored by some of the most important Technology Labs and Research Centers in the country, such as IEN (Institute of Nuclear Engineering), CEPEL (Research Center on Electric Energy) and CENPES (the PETROBRAS Research Center). It also concentrates national and global companies such as Schlumberger, Baker Hughes, BG, Siemens, USIMINAS, EM , FMC Technologies, Halliburton, and Tenaris, while others are due to build or are building their Research Centers, such as General Electric, L'Oréal and Ambev. It also houses the World Center for Sustainable Development, the Technology Center for Ecosystems' Recovery and the Green Fund.

The Technology Park thrives with the energy of creation, the spectrum of possibilities and exceptional atmosphere for discovery and growth. It is a place to create the technology of tomorrow mainly focusing on the “pre-salt” challenges of the Oil & Gas industry, energy, naval and oceanic sectors; the environment; information technology and communication; iron and steel industry; logistics; and integrated technologies.

The Technology Park also generates great opportunities for medium and small size technology-based companies. One of the ongoing projects is The Innovation Tower, which, upon completion, will house over a 100 medium and small companies.

In brief, the UFRJ Technology Park provides a thriving environment for leading research, academic and business collaboration, and networking.

AN INTERNATIONAL CULTURE

COPPEAD has always focused on forming and educating managers with international exposure, ready to operate in multicultural environments and to pursue international careers.

Thus, COPPEAD has internationalized by forming strategic alliances with highly reputed and internationally accredited business schools in the five continents.

The alliances and partnerships contemplate student exchange agreements and over 400 course-hours in English during the exchange terms for the Full-time MBA Program, visiting professors, study-weeks, dual-degree opportunities and international modules for the Executive MBA Program, among others.

Exchange terms at COPPEAD, when the offer of elective disciplines in English is concentrated, run from approximately early May to early July, from mid July to early October and from mid October to before Christmas. COPPEAD receives exchange students from partner institutions in North & South America, Western & Eastern Europe, Asia, Oceania and Africa, fostering a real multicultural environment.

Focusing on regional integration, in 2008, COPPEAD took the initiative to found ALADEN (the Latin American Alliance of Business Schools) with internationally accredited business schools in Colombia, Mexico, Peru and Venezuela, mainly targeting the understanding of the Latin American business context and wealth creation, in terms of the socio economic development of the home-countries of the five members. The SLAE (Latin-American Study-Week) is offered every year, in Spanish, on a rotary basis by ALADEN member institutions.

Other international partnerships include Building Ventures in Latin America (designed to prepare students to build and grow successful businesses in today's changing marketplace); Dual-Degree agreements with two internationally accredited French business schools for our Executive MBA students, The Global Partners (a Full-time International MBA program with a US and a European partner), the International Consortium of Executive MBA programs (an 8-day module offered simultaneously by the partner schools located in Europe, North America, South Africa, Latin America and Asia) and the International Practicum for Full-time MBA students (a one-week intensive program together with a US partner, where students work together in consultancy projects for Brazilian or international companies)

The Full-time MBA (M.Sc.)

COPPEAD's Full-time MBA, a post-experience 18 months and 700hrs tuition-free program, is a hybrid model comprising the main features of Academic and Professional Masters. The program emphasizes the theory/practice and research/application perspectives with a focus on best practices in management at the national and international levels. In 2014, COPPEAD launched an all in English track in its Full-time MBA and, as of 2015, English is the main language of instruction, making the program an attractive option for high-potential international students.

This model combines a generalist approach with a specialization resulting from the specific research field chosen for the dissertation (an additional requirement in order to be awarded the M.Sc. degree, which can extend the duration of the program to totalize, approximately, 24 months). The concentration areas offered by the program are: Finance & Managerial Control; Marketing & International Business; Operations, Technology & Logistics and Organizations, Strategy & Information Systems.

In order to provide students with a solid business education, integrating the different functional areas, the program employs a diversified methodological approach that includes case studies, computerized business simulations, role-plays and participation in consulting projects, among others.

The Full-time MBA also has an exchange program with partner schools in the five continents; a summer-job or internship program; a job market re-entry week with the participation of top national and multinational companies; the SLAE (Latin American study-week) to acquire knowledge of the Latin American business environment; a careers office that organizes lectures, counseling, group activities & individual assessment; multicultural projects; opportunities to participate in research groups and in international business competitions.

This program designed to comply with the highest international standards is recognized as a label in business education in Brazil and, increasingly, in the world thanks to the EQUIS accreditation and to its ranking in the Financial Times.

A PROGRAM FOR EACH PROFILE

COPPEAD offers a large portfolio of programs comprising degree-granting programs and executive education programs some including dual–degree opportunities and international modules with internationally accredited Business Schools.

Rio de Janeiro: Carioca Landscapes between the Mountain and the Sea has been inscribed upon the World Heritage List of the Convention concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage. Inscription on this List confirms the exceptional universal value of a cultural or natural site, which deserves protection for the benefit of all humanity.

"The listed site consists of an exceptional urban setting rather than built heritage. It encompasses the key natural elements that have shaped and inspired the development of the city: from the highest points of the Tijuca National Park’s mountains down to the sea. They also include the Botanical Gardens, established in 1808, Corcovado Mountain with its celebrated statue of Christ and the hills around Guanabara Bay, including the extensive designed landscapes along Copacabana Bay which have contributed to the outdoor living culture of this spectacular city. Rio de Janeiro is also recognized for the artistic inspiration it has provided to musicians, landscapers and urbanists." UNESCO World Heritage Centre (whc.unesco.org/)
