Conclusions
• Smoking is not cool• Patient selection is key to ensuring good
outcomes for patients with COPD admitted to ICU, and using resources appropriately
• We have inadequate data/tools to predict prognosis in COPD. Previous functional status, BMI, and comorbidities are probably best
• ICU and specialities need to work together to improve process of decision making
• We are missing opportunities for advance care planning. We must involve patients earlier/more meaningfully
