Contextual Teaching and Learning

•Definition of CTL

• …is a conception of teaching and learning that helps teachers relate subject matter content to real world situations; and motivates students to make connections between knowledge and its applications to their lives as family members, citizens, workers and engage in the hard work that learning requires.

• The goal and effect of a contextualized approach is to capture a student’s attention by illustrating the relevance of learning experiences.

Motivation Theory

• According to Harris, “ The basic format of andragogical model is a process design that uses life experiences.”

• Svinicki suggest that instructor address the following issues:

1. Increase the value of the learning to the learner2. Increase the learner’s self-efficacy with regard

to the task.

Problem-Centered Learning

• It address students’ engagement with real-world problem-solving to develop a “dee[-foundation of factual knowledge and understand that knowledge in the context of a conceptual framework, and finally to facilitate the development of metacognitive skills.
