How, it may be asked, can the soul be said to mentally unite with the Supreme Soul, or in other words, how can a love-relationship be established between the two, if both were absolutely without any form? How can the soul enter into loving union with the Supreme Soul and experience or revel in the divine bliss which is supposed to flow from such union? Again, if God is nameless, how can one remember Him by the attributes He has, and enjoy the super-sensuous bliss which is believed to be the richest reward of yoga? The World Renewal

It is a pity that, today, all believers consider God to beformless in the sense that He is totally devoid of any shape, form or image, but this belief is simply incompatible with

the concept of Yoga/Bhakti or Gyan. How, it may be asked, can the soul be said to mentally unite with the Supreme Soul,or in other words, how can a love-relationship be establishedbetween the two, if both were absolutely without any form? How can the soul enter into loving union with the SupremeSoul and experience or revel in the divine bliss which is

supposed to flow from such union?Again, if God is nameless, how can oneremember Him by the attributes He has,and enjoy the super-sensuous blisswhich is believed to be the richestreward of yoga? It, therefore, logicallyfollows that God has both form andname – in fact, a special form and a

special name, as distinguished from the name of a deity or ahuman being, because the Supreme Soul, as the very titleindicates, is Supreme among all souls, owing to His attributes, though, not different from them in form or shape. MAHA SHIVRATRI:The Universal Festival

Early in the morning, thebirds start singing inunison, and praising the

Supreme Being’s name. Thesounds are so melodious, andgive the experience of petals ofHis grace being showered on us.In one area, the devout startchanting various names of theSupreme, and in another corner, gyani souls are meditating andinvoking His blessings. What aunique coincidence that thecelebrations of Maha Shivratritake place when the winter coldhas departed, and the verypleasant, beautiful fragrance offlowers fill the air. Temple bellsare ringing all around, andeffectively drawing everyone’sattention towards the Greatestof the greatest: the SupremeSoul, Supreme Father,Incorporeal God Shiva.

For centuries, the devout allover the world, especially inBharat, have been invokingGod’s blessings on MahaShivratri through the process ofnatural offerings. To becomefamiliar and conscious of GodShiva’s blessings means to befilled with an intoxicating feelingand newness in our thoughtstreams: “Who is Shiva? Whatis His real form? Where isHis real Abode? What areHis divine deeds whichmake him world-famous as

Editorial

the Bestower of all Boonsand Blessings? Do we haveany connection orrelationship with Him? If so,what is the easiest way toexplore the truth about ourrelationship with Him?”

I am sure each human soulwould think about the SupremeSource of Power, Wisdom andLove at some point or the otherduring their lifetime. Maybe, sometimes, it is with all love, and, perhaps, at other times, outof fear. Yet, there is a relentlesssearch to find and know theSupreme. Religions presentprobably a hundred stories inpraise of the Supreme, but oururge to explore the reality oftruth never dies. As an observerof the global scenario, one’seyes are raised, looking intoinfinity, in search of the Sourceof Truth, Wisdom and Divinity. The human mind does not trulyrest until the answer is crystalclear, and that which can benefithumanity.

The essence of our scripturesbrings us to the conclusion thatthere is only one God, whoseoriginal name is best known as‘World Benefactor Shiva(Vishwa Kalyankari)’. Thisname makes us realise thatIncorporeal God Shiva must liveseparately from His Creation, and would have descended on

earth from the highest Abode,Paramdham, or the Soul World,to carry out the task ofBenefactor. The reason for Hisdescent is very clear as the roleof World Benefactor cannot beenacted by any other soul, be ita Founding Father of anyReligion or a divine soul of anydiscipline in our world, since theCreation cannot know its ownbeginning, middle and end.Founding Fathers have praisedthe Supreme Being in their ownrespective ways, but no one hasbeen able to pronounce theexactness of His work. Merelyon the basis of one’s faith, people continue to becomedevotional and God-fearing.However, when that eternal starof Divine Light and SpiritualMight descends on earth, Heawakens the humanity to realisethe truth about His name,‘Shiva’, and His divine task ofre-establishment of goodnessand godliness amongst thehuman beings.

His teachings start fromawakening the third eye ofwisdom to realise thebenefits of Self, Soul-Consciousness, andbecoming God’s belovedspiritual children to empoweroneself and play a role inpromoting godliness. Wehuman beings are so used tolooking at physical figures andcostumes, that we hardly try toindulge in self-introspection orexplore our inner beauty. Just asShiva is known as theEmbodiment of Truth,

Page 3: CONTENTSCONTENTS SHIVRATRI – DIVINE DESCENT AND …mediawing.org/mediawing/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/...– Trustee, Shri Shiv Adhyatmik Foundation B.K. Ramesh N. Shah and his laukik

The World Renewal 5February, 2017Benediction and Beauty, humansouls too have similar divinevirtues within themselves, butthese have been forgotten ornow become tainted. The saying“God created humans in Hisown image” goes as the age-oldsaying; so, as humans (men andwomen) we need to explore thedepths of our consciousness andrealise godly qualities inourselves. The moment oneunderstands, realises and startsliving as an enlightened being, heor she glorifies the DivineBeing’s goodness, and bringsbenefit to all of humanity, thereby living up to the name ofbeing ‘Spiritual Children of theWorld Benefactor’.

The celebration of festivals inIndia presently is more ritualisticthan actually living by the divinesignificance that these Festivalsembody. People even endurehardships to fast and remainawake all night on MahaShivratri, singing praises of LordShiva and chanting devotionalsongs with the hope of having aminute’s vision of the Supreme. However, we now learn that ourbeloved Supreme Father hasordained us to know the realityabout His name and form (star-like energy), experience Him as

the unlimited source ofspiritual power that diviniseshuman souls in Meditation, andunderstand the uniqueknowledge of Creator andHis Creation.

It is only the Creator who canimpart exact knowledge of hisCreation, right from thebeginning of the Cycle of Timetill the end. The most sacred andaccurate time of God’s descentis at the darkest hour in thewhole cycle (end of Kaliyug). With our self-awakening and byattuning our minds with theSupreme Being, we willtransform into ever-peaceful,ever-loveful, ever-blissful, ever-blessed elevated individuals.

It is only at the presenttime that we can experiencethe Supreme Being throughour all relationships withHim. He specially wishes forus to see Him as our bestspiritual friend, who is alwaysavailable and just a thoughtaway! It is our experience thatthose who invest in a spiritualawakening, and connectemotionally and spiritually withGod as a best friend, receivebountiful spiritual gifts on a dailybasis.

The Mahavakyas, elevated

versions of God, are the realpurifying holy streams that flowall over the world; every day weshould choose to be those holyswans who pick up the pearlsof wisdom, imbibe them, andthen offer our services totransform the world. TheSupreme Being’s incarnationhas happened and continues tousher in global transformation ona subtle, spiritual level that isaltering the outlooks beliefsystems and consciousness ofhuman souls. It is the subtlechange from taamsik to sattvik, and the tamopradhanbehaviour/actions to godlyactions, which has the power touplift the weak, down-troddensouls and make them divinehuman beings.

Let us celebrate MahaShivratri by reawakening ourinner goodness and spreading HisGodly message of living in soul-consciousness, experiencingGod’s love constantly, andleading viceless or purelifestyles!

Let us claim that cherishedright to the kingdom of heavenas God’s inheritance! This wouldbe the most glorious blessing wecan receive on the auspiciousfestival of Maha Shivratri.

The light from thosestars was very beautiful and thereflection from those lights wasmaking different designs in thesubtle region. After someseconds, Baba was visible

coming from a distance andRameshbhai was with Him.From the stars that were in theV-shape, many beautiful angelsbegan to emerge and they wereholding garlands of light whichthey were putting onRameshbhai. Light wasautomatically emerging from thestars that were in the half-moon

Thisdecoration was looking verybeautiful. Rameshbhai waslooking towards Baba, andBaba was also giving verysweet drishti to Rameshbhai.Rameshbhai asked Baba:“Baba, what is happening?”Baba replied: “Child, today, allthe souls whom you haveserved in Bharat and in thewhole world, whom youhave inspired and withwhom you have created newplans on the field of service,in return for all of that, all ofthem are decorating you intheir own way. Everyone hasso much love for you in theirhearts and everyone isremembering you with somuch love.”

Rameshbhai said: “I have notgone away, I was with Babaand I am with Baba”. Baba thensaid: “In the last few days, thechild’s body was working at avery slow speed. The doctorswere doing their work and thebody was doing its work, andthis child was with Baba in thesubtle region and having a verygood heart-to-heartconversation with Baba. I waswondering what theconversation would have

been.” Baba smiled and said:“From the beginning, this childalways felt that new plans forservice should be made, whatthe systems of the future worldwould be, and how intense oureffort needed to be at thepresent moment – he wastalking to Baba about all ofthis.” Rameshbhai said: “Inorder for it all to be automatic,we have to create thesanskars before that, then thelaws and regulations, and, then, its setting will all workautomatically.

Baba said: “While doingeverything here, the child usedto think a lot about what thefuture world would be like andwhat the economics of thatworld would be. He alwaysused to write something or theother about that too. He willnow carry out all of that at afast speed in advance.”

I (Shashi behn) said: “Baba, all the brothers and sisters willmiss Rameshbhai, they willespecially miss him in theyagya. Our senior brothers andthe Dadis will also miss him.Rameshbhai smiled and said:“Baba has given His companyto everyone and Baba isinspiring everything and I amwith all of you.” I (ShashiBehn) said: “You were lookingafter so many departments. From the beginning, you createdmany new plans for service.”As he was hearing this, helaughed and said: “I didn’t do

Then, Baba said: “From thetime that this child recognisedBaba, he has been an examplein the laukik and alaukikfamily. Having been a trustee,he did everything accuratelyand efficiently, making sure thatnothing was lacking, that therewere no mistakes. No matterwhat happened, he was verystrict, and always had the aimof making sure everything wasdone accurately. He made sureall the systems of the yagyawere correct, that there wasnever anything wrong, and hedid everything with a lot of love.In all departments, he has hisexperienced jewels with himwho are doing everything nowand will continue to do so.” Hesaid: “Tell everyone, if youcontinue as a trustee andalways keep Baba with you,if you have faith in oneanother, are co-operativewith one another, and keepthe gathering strong as youdo everything, then Babawill touch you with newmethods. Baba’s sweetness makesour every thought pureand peaceful. It is said

that wherever the body is, ourmind follows; but, for us,wherever the body may be, ourmind is up there with Baba. Theintellect holds the knowledge ofthe Creator and His Creation andworks on it very well. Who isthe Creator? And what is theCreation? I had no idea thatBaba was going to create sucha huge and beautiful creation.Whenever a soul is touched byBaba’s love, it says, “Baba ismine”; and Baba says, “Child,You are mine”. This createsfortune as we have this mutualexchange of thoughts andreciprocate our feeling ofbelonging to Baba. I alwayshave this feeling that on the rightside of me there is God,Bhagwan – my Companion.Every breath, thought, and wordI say and every step I take, Heis there as my Companion. Thepoints of Murli touch my mindand heart again and again, and, thus, these keep repeatinginternally. When we sit for

DEVELOP TOLERANCE ANDEARN IN EVERY SECOND

remembrance of God, ourintellect should not wanderanywhere. Check yourself. I ama soul and when the soul leavesthe body, it becomes a deadbody. We should keepintrospecting on the inheritanceof happiness, power, peace andlove we have received fromBaba. As we listen to Baba’sMurli, we nod within as thoughthe soul is saying ‘yes, yes’. Thesongs have such beautifulwords. The composer, singerand musician are all different. One composes, the other singsand still another plays; and theresult is so beautiful.

When Baba was in Mumbai,he did such a great service thathe became inspiration for a verygood service that was to come.Service helps us a lot. The moreyou serve with honesty and love, the more joy you experiencewhich is an unlimited joy. Thisjoy is given by Allah Himself.Such joy which is bountiful isbestowed by Allah. Once, whenI visited a mosque, naturally, thesound of Allah came from withinme. God is One. When Brahma

Baba and Shiv Baba aretogether, we call themBapDada. When Baba comesinto the body of Dadi Gulzar, wesay BapDada.

You are my brothers andsisters and I am sure you willaccept what I am saying to you.Whatever effort Baba is askingus to make, we need to makeitself now through our spiritualefforts. There are many aspectsof this effort. Baba tells usabout these efforts and we alsosee them through other BKs.We need to ask ourselves, “Arethese things really in my life?”When others will experiencethese things from us, they willnaturally have the feelings oflove towards us.

Baba speaks and every dayHe grinds and grinds thisknowledge in such a way thatit is instilled within me, Hischild. Every word Baba hasspoken has pierced Dadi’sheart. When Baba was in thebody, Baba taught us with a lotof love, how to be beyond the

Self-contended souls who make others contented are the beads of rosary.

body, to be bodiless and soul-conscious. I amnot this body. I can remain in the soul-consciousstage.

It is a matter of great honour and pride thateveryone sits here and remains together in suchsweet silence. Do you remain aware thatevery second and every moment is precious? We know that 60 seconds equal 1 minute and60 minutes make an hour. Ask yourself: “Whatdid I do in each second? What did I do in thepast hour? What did I do in past 24 hours? Was that useful for myself and others?”

Baba tells us that the power of tolerance isvery important. If someone tolerates, it is asign of strength of one’s character. We canemerge the power of tolerance. A sign ofmissing the power of tolerance in my life isthat I will not be able to maintain good wishesfor everyone. If you lack the power oftolerance, you will never be able to send thevibrations of peace and power to souls, nearand far. If the facilities of science can sendwaves so far away, then why I, the soul, cannotdo it? Why cannot I send the vibrations ofpeace and power to souls?

Let us now listen to a beautiful song and sitin such beautiful silence that no other thoughtsemerge in our mind. Practise this controllingpower. It is not that we suppress but by usingcontrolling power, we have the potential to earnincome in every second and every minute ofthe day.

If a master orders a power, it will present itself before him in a second.

THE SIGNIFICANCE OFTHOUGHT POWER IN

MEDITATIONMeditation is not a process of emptying the

mind of thoughts. In meditation I use the natural

power of the soul – the power to create thoughts

– as a take-off point (or as a spring-board) to

finally experience the consciousness of the true

self. In meditation, I climb a ladder of well-

prepared, positive and spiritual thoughts and

eventually climb beyond the ladder into the pure

experience of what I really am. Pondering over

these pure and real thoughts can occupy the

soul for long periods of time.

In the most basic stage of Rajyoga

meditation, first comes the realization: I am a

soul, the energy of consciousness made up of

a mind, an intellect and a collection of

sanskars. My eyes, ears, nose, mouth are just

the organs, which when used correctly, help me,

to enjoy life. I the soul, now possess the

knowledge that will free me from my body-cage.

I have the key, the spiritual knowledge - I am a

soul, a being of light, a free bird which has the

power to fly freely. Knowing this, I am not bound

by physical laws. I can detach and fly at the

speed of a thought, to the metaphysical Soul

World, where I can easily experience my original

and essential state. I must realize that it is

impossible to have peace of mind if I, the soul,

cannot detach myself from the body. I must look

upon all my family members, friends, colleagues

also as souls which have come from the same

Soul World. We are all fellow souls.

REMAIN HAPPYAlways create powerful thoughts of

happiness, and you, your body, mindand spirit will always remain happy.

There are innumerablesocial serviceorganisations, founda-

tions and trusts throughout theworld. There are non-governmental organisations(NGOs) also which are engagedin social service. Almost allsocial service organisations aresupported by the governments, trusts or foundations. It is alsoreported that some of theseorganisations indulge inmisappropriation and misuse offunds, granted to them. Manysuch organisations also raisefunds from the public throughdonations. These funds aregenerally utilised for materialsupport to the poor, women, children, handicapped and sickpeople and so on. It is alsoobserved that there are somephilanthropists whose instancespromote many social serviceinitiatives. But, as time passesby and as these activitiesbecome old, it remains as apractice and as the fundmanagers are changed, things take

to a route of mismanagement andfight for mere publicity andpopularity and become a meremeans of making money.

Because of these reasons, thesocial service ventures are beingbrought under the scanner ofcertain government agencies tocheck unlawful activities, especially in the field of socialservice delivery points, purpose, and fund management and so on.

Psycho-spiritual socialservice

On the other hand, psycho-spiritual social service has theunique distinction of serving thesouls. Serving unto the spirit isthe motto of spiritual socialservice. Brahma Kumaris is aglobal psycho-spiritual socialservice organisation which isspread over 140 countries of theworld, where women, who havetotally surrendered their life, arein the forefront of psycho-spiritual social service. It is notthat the team of social serviceconsists of only women, but alsothat there are like-minded

dedicated men who support theefforts of these selfless, dispassionate and service-minded women. Similarly, as theaim of social service is tomitigate the sufferings of thepeople caused due to want ofmoney, food, clothing, shelter, education and training, etc., soalso spiritual social service aimsto release the tension and stressof those who shoulder higherresponsibilities particularly inorganisations and society, thosewho suffer from addictions andnegativities of various kinds suchas anger, fear, ego, jealousy, suspicion, stress and strain inhuman relationship and life ingeneral and emotionalconflagration, social injusticeand so on and so forth. Thepsycho-spiritual social serviceinitiative aims to provide solace, peace and well-being to thosewho suffer at psychic, social andemotional level so that they canbe effective, productive, honest, sincere, truthful and able toenjoy whatever they do andserve the society withsatisfaction. Therefore, it isnecessary for the psycho-spiritual and social servantsthemselves to qualify ethically, morally and spiritually along withthe qualities of enlightened self-disinterest, non-attachment,judicious impartiality with anamount of imaginative sympathy,

Your very positive attitude can create a powerful atmosphere.

Godly servicePsycho-spiritual social service

is also called Godly service. Itis incredible to reveal that God,the Supreme Father of all souls, has an eternal part to be theobedient servant of humanitywhen He descends in the bodyof Prajapita Brahma at the endof the life cycle in a Kalpa (aperiod of 5,000 years) andserves humanity with adifference. The famous English poetWilliam Shakespearesaid, “Some are born

great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrustupon them”.

We, the spiritual students ofPrajapita Brahma KumarisIshwariya Vishwa Vidyalaya, enjoy all three types of greatnessdescribed by the poet in elevatedConfluence Age. We are themouth-born progenies ofPrajapita Brahma Baba. Hence, all the Brahmin souls are borngreat. The Brahmins, whoremain stable in theirconcentration, clearlyexperience themselves as soulsand understand the differentsubtle forms of Maya. Suchclarity comes with the power ofconcentration. They watcheverything with their inward eye. They watch the worldly thingsas passing clouds. Every eventand action come and go, as it ispredestined according to theCosmic Scheme of the Drama. The great souls get the correctperception, their insightsconvince them the correct pathand they act according to theperception they perceive. Therefore, their thoughts, wordsand actions are always in unison.

GREATNESS–B.K. Sivasothy, Jaffna

Greatness is visible in thesimplicity while zeal andenthusiasm are visible in theeyes, expressions and actions ofthose who are full of spiritualattainments. The sparkle ofsuch attainment inspires others. Therefore, we can confirm thatthe great Brahmin souls areborn great.

The faraway Traveller, theTrilokinath, the Supreme Soul, who is called the Trinetri hasopened the third eye ofknowledge of us, the Brahminsouls, and lifted up the anchorof our boats. The boat is stillsailing amidst the strong watercurrents, heavy rush of windsand large waves. The light houseof this elevated Confluence Ageis visible but the pathway ofpurity, truth, humility andobedience is full of pot-holes,and in this way, we Brahminsouls are making sincere effortsto reach the destination. Victoryis our birthright. We achievegreatness by being in solitudeand becoming lost in the depthsof the One, the SupremeSatguru, and try to remain freefrom all attractions of thisperishable world. Ourdestination is determined in thisConfluence Age. The proverb

says “Time and tide wait fornone”. The canopy of the truth, the omens of Jupiter, the Seedof the World-Tree, are alwaysover the Brahmin souls, protecting them and guidingthem according to theShreemat.

The Knowledge of the Cycleof the Drama is instilled in theminds of Brahmin souls. Theyimbibe divine virtues throughpurity and truthfulness. Hence, the Brahmin souls not onlyachieve greatness through theiryoga power but also byunderstanding Baba’s spiritualknowledge and by practising itwith determined thoughts. Thereis limitless praise of theknowledge of True Gita beingimparted by God Shiva in thiselevated Confluence Age. It isthe mother of all scriptures asBrahmin souls achievegreatness through gatheringknowledge and theremembrance of the SupremePower.

Such elevated souls becomeangels in the elevated Age ofTransition and will becomedeities with the double crown inthe forthcoming Satyuga. Theirgreatness depends on goingdeep into the depth of theknowledge and practising it intheir day-to-day life. A seedgerminates in fertile soil withprovision of pure water andlight. The knowledge of the

Supreme Soul germinates in the purity of theheart of each and every great soul. So, theyachieve all divine virtues with the help of theSuperior Guru. In this way, greatness is thrustupon in such souls. They reveal the Father, theBestower of Happiness and Peace andthemselves bestow happiness and peace to allsouls, whether they are close or far away fromthem.

Therefore, the souls who make sincere effortsare born great; they achieve greatness throughtheir endeavour and their faith in the SupremeFather, the Supreme Self while greatness is thrustupon such great souls who are regarded asangels and deities.

The fortunate souls are the great souls whoimbibe Godly knowledge, practise what theypreach, and stay under the canopy of protectionof God and His Shreemat.

Such fortunate souls give good wishes to all, ignite their flame of purity and glitter like genuinediamonds with the specialty of truth. Thefortunate souls are also the great souls who helpto open the gateway to Paramdham andHeaven.

Implement every point of knowledge to become embodiment of it.

THE DYNAMICS OFGREED

Deficiencies inside us bring about a spiritualvoid or the lack of wholeness (fullness). As welay the foundation of our lives on deficienciesor weaknesses, the result is suffering, sorrowand peacelessness. If we act in consciousnessand harmony with our essential spiritual virtuesand qualities, the result is cooperation, happiness, peace, contentment and, finally, wholeness.A spiritual void leads to selfishness and causesthe emergence of greed inside us. We want tohave more and possess more, which generatesa state of expectation and unfulfilled expectationleads to stress. We fill our lives with things andobjects to cover up inner deficiencies. Then,we are afraid of losing them. We generateexpectations of all kinds, and, when they arenot fulfilled, we react with anger, frustration, fearor disappointment. The inner emptiness makesus become greedy. Therefore, we try to possessall sorts of material objects, properties, thingsand, thus, try to fill our inner emptiness in vain.We take and consume more of material thingsthan what we can give to the Universe in theform of subtle positive thoughts, feelings, vibrations, actions, etc., and this brings aboutimbalances in the self, in our relation with othersand with Nature. Something similar happens on a physical level. The body has a capacity to recycle and eliminatewaste through different mediums. However, since we consume more toxins than the bodycan process, it leads to imbalance and we aremore prone to feeling physically ill and unfit anddeveloping sickness, diseases, etc.

The first lesson that Godteaches us is that ‘Youare a soul, not the body’.

Hence, creating and maintainingthe soul-conscious stage is oneof our primary practices.

So, let us explore what exactlyis meant by a soul-consciousstage, how to create it, what areits signs and benefits.A.What is soul-conscious

stage? The basis of any sthiti (stage)

is smriti, i.e., our thoughts arethe foundation of our state ofmind.

As we create a thought – “Iam a Peaceful soul” – then, thisthought creates a feeling ofpeace. As we continue creatinga series of associated thoughts, these little feelings continue toaccumulate, thereby creating asense of inner calm.B. Creating a soul-conscious

stageSome of the thoughts that we

can focus on for creating a soul-conscious stage are mentionedas follows: I am a peaceful soul. I am a being of energy. I am a pure and powerful

being. I am the child of the Almighty

Authority. I am the Master of this body. I am eternal and

imperishable; the body ismortal and perishable.

I am a sparkling star, a shiningjewel. I am the driver, the body is

my vehicle. I am the actor, this body is

my costume.I am a deity, this body is the

temple. I am the charioteer; this body

is my chariot. I am the Master Sun of

Knowledge. I am a victorious jewel. I am the light of God’s eyes,

I am the light of the world. I am the resident ofParamdham. I have come down and taken

this human costume to playmy part in this world drama. I was originally perfect and

complete, full of all virtues, completely pure in Satyuga. I am currently under the

direct sustenance of God,who is making me full and

perfect once again. I am God’s angel and sharing

happiness with all.We can use the above listof thoughts in following

ways:(i)We can create all these

thoughts for good soul-conscious stage by holdingany one of these thoughts fora few minutes to experiencea peaceful and powerfulstage. If we visualise theform of the soul, and we areable to hold that image in ourintellect, experiencebecomes very easy.

(ii) By taking drishti from Babawith the awareness that Heis looking at me as a soul. Hispowerful soul-consciousdrishti makes it very easy toexperience soul-consciousness.

(iii) By remaining in the peacefulenvironment of the Centrewhich is charged withvibrations of meditation andsoul-consciousness sincemany years. Creating a soul-conscious stage in such anenvironment becomes veryeasy.

C. SignsIt is important to be aware of

the signs of a soul- consciousstage. This helps us to check atany time or after meditationwhether we are soul conscious, and the extent to which our stateis powerful.

All facilities (sadhan) come to a yogi (sadhak) who draw them with his power.

We can check our soul-conscious stage being aware ofthe following signs:A. External Signs

In soul-conscious stage: Our words are soft and sweet. We experience a feeling of

lightness around us and inour actions. Our face looks light and

happy.B. Internal Signs

In soul-conscious stage:Our thoughts are slow, focused, peaceful. We are able to quickly put a

full stop to past.We worry less about the future. Our discerning and decision

making capacity becomesefficient and quick; we areable to resolve and finishissues quickly.

C. Interactions, Memories, etc. We see each other as souls

and focus on other’sspecialities. It becomes easy to create

thoughts of good wishes andpure feelings for everyonearound us.

We can stay in constantremembrance of our silencehome and our IncorporealFather, the Supreme Soul.

D. Best PracticesIn order to be able to create

and maintain the soul-consciousstage throughout the day, thereare some best practices which

The vices become the garland like a snake around the neck of Sadhak.

are as follows:a. On waking up

When we wake up,particularly early in the morning, the mind is absolutely fresh.Whatever we listen, read orexperience at this time goesstraight in, thereby easilycontinuing for the rest of the day.Creating the soul-consciousstage at this time and then alsoconnecting with the 100% soul-conscious Being, God, makes iteasy to remain soul-consciousfor the rest of the day.b. Listening to the Murli

To become a doctor, we needto study from a doctor. Similarly,to become soul conscious, weneed to study from the 100%soul-conscious Being. Hence, daily listening to the Murli is veryimportant for good soul-consciousness.

In addition, before Murliclass, it is a very good practiceto create the soul-consciousstage, and then, try to maintainit during Murli class. It is easyto maintain during this time, sincewe are listening from the 100%soul-conscious Being, who isalso seeing us as souls. It thenbecomes easy to remain in thatstage later during the day too.c. Throughout the day

Keep attention on thoughtsthroughout the day to ensure thatwe do not go too much towardswaste (about past or otherpeople) or negativity. This

prevents us from gettingunnecessarily pulled into body-consciousness.d. Breaks (Traffic Control)

Sometimes, when involved ina lot of actions, we may loseattention on the self. Hence, taking a regular break (TrafficControl, whether the regular 3minute breaks or 1 minute everyhour) helps a lot as we canrecreate the soul-consciousstage during that time. Thiseffect, then, remains for a longtime, after which it might be timeto take another break. Hence,in this manner, we can maintainan elevated stage throughout theday.e. Before sleeping

Before sleeping, it isimportant to do a quick audit orcheck of our state of mind overthe day and resolve any pendingissues. Then, create the soul-conscious stage for a fewminutes and then go to sleep. This ensures an elevated stagethroughout sleep, therebyimproving sleep quality andmaking it natural to wake upearly.E. Continuing Ahead

The nature of the mind is thatit requires newness. Hence, ifwe create the same thoughtsdaily in meditation, it will getbored. Hence, although I havegiven a list of thoughts above, itis very important to have accessto a source from which we

Page 16: CONTENTSCONTENTS SHIVRATRI – DIVINE DESCENT AND …mediawing.org/mediawing/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/...– Trustee, Shri Shiv Adhyatmik Foundation B.K. Ramesh N. Shah and his laukik

regularly get new thoughts tocreate in meditation.

The main sources ofthought are as follows: Murli: In it, God not onlyreminds to us that we are a soul, but does so in various differentways and methods. This givesus different methods, approaches and aspects ofsoul-consciousness. Forexample, He uses manydifferent phrases for soul-consciousness such as:

Bodiless stage: It means I sitand become completelydetached from the body, i.e.,not using the body at all.

Dehi Abhimani Stage: Here, while in actions, weremember that we are doingactions through the body, seeing through the eyes, etc.

Atma-abhimani Stage: In thisstage, we are in theexperience and awarenessof our original qualities.Churning of Knowledge:The more we contemplateand churn the knowledge ofsoul, we get new pointswhich can be created inmeditation. For example, thinking over the point – ‘Iam Master Sun of Purity’–we get the following points:

Like the Sun, I am full of allpowers.

My rays and vibrations arefinishing all weakness aroundme.

Everyone around me aregetting benefited from myvibrations of purity.

I am child of the Sun of Purity; He gives powerful vibrationsof purity to all; I am also Hischild, I am like Him, and willbecome like Him.Classes on Soul-Consciousness: Whilelistening to classes on soul-consciousness by seniorexperienced souls we alsoget new approaches topractise soul-consciousness

F. ImportanceBeing soul-conscious has

numerous benefits, some ofwhich are listed below:

When soul-conscious, we arein the experience of ouroriginal qualities of purity, peace, etc. This makes usfeel very full satisfied, andalso heals the mind. When soul-conscious, theresulting vibrations reach thebody. This helps the bodyorgans work efficiently andwork in harmony, therebyhelping the healing process. Since our mind is light andfree from waste, workefficiency increases, therebyhelping us do more work inless time. When we are in theexperience of our originalqualities, we start givingrather than taking, acceptinginstead of expecting. This

improves all ourrelationships.

Our spiritual progress is basedon the soul conscious stage inthe following ways:

Being soul-conscious helps usto understand Gyan easily, deeply and in a simple naturalmanner.

When we are soul-conscious,it becomes easy toremember the Supreme Soul, our Supreme Father. Hence,soul-consciousness is thebasis of Rajyoga meditationSoul-consciousness is thebasis of our Dharna, i.e., alldivine virtues like simplicity, patience, cheerfulness, sweetness, tolerance, etc.

When we are soul-conscious,pure vibrations spread around;our words touch others’ hearts;our actions inspire others;hence, it is the basis of Seva, whether through thoughts, words or actions.

Here, some thoughts arementioned below to increase ourdetermination for creating andmaintaining the soul-consciousstage:

My efforts of soulconsciousness in this onedivine birth will lasteffortlessly for 21 births.

As per the drama, weremained body-conscious forhalf a cycle, if even now weremain body conscious, then, what is the benefit?

The yogic stage of Shankar is the memorial of soul-conscious stage.

If we can come out of thisphysical body and look intothe space, we will see how

beautiful and alive this universeis. Have we ever tried to explorethis infinite space above us andthe vast underwater world ofbeautiful creatures, valleys, andferns below us? How nicely andbeautifully they co-exist in aplanned manner peacefully andgraciously. There is absoluteharmony among everythingobeying the divine law. We, thehuman beings, can act freelyonly within a limited scope. If wego against the divine law, we willpunish or destroy ourselves. passage of time, this bond isbecoming weak, and the gapbetween the world of humanbeings and the world of Natureis increasing.

We forget that our body ismade up of the five elements ofNature – air, water, fire, earth, and sky – the internal quality ofwhich is only to give. Why don’twe stay in the form of ‘giving’which is our inborn quality? Godhas given human beingsintelligence and consciousnessto change the course of Naturefor better or for worse.Correspondingly, the Nature hasenough for every one’s need butnot for anyone’s greed. Nature’sdoor is always open foreverybody equally but whenhuman beings constantly followthe wrong path by breaking thedivine law in exploitation ofnature, negative energy ornegative vibrations are impactingNature; so, the Nature’sresponse becomes negative. Asa result, there are naturaldisasters such as earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, floods,

droughts, tsunamis, storms, etc.,that cause harm to human worldin form of loss of lives andproperties.

Human beings might haveprogressed scientifically andtechnologically, but emotionallyand spiritually the basicfoundation of love, peace, happiness and goodness hasalmost vanished. This is not asign of progress but a definitesign of decline. Unfortunately,we forget that the entire planetis our home and we all arespiritually brothers as souls – thespiritual children of God – underthe protective umbrella of GodFather Shiv Baba. If despiteNature’s warning, human beingsdo not change, Nature itself mustcorrect the imbalance through anatural cleansing process. Thisis because God’s Creation (boththe worlds of Human andNature) must exist as they aremeant to be - peaceful, generousand pure. The cleansing processis done by Nature in the form ofnatural disasters, one suchdisaster being the shifting of theearth’s axis that may cause amajor part of negativity to bewiped out.Observation on Earth’s AxisShift by Scientists andResearch Agencies:

1. A study in the JournalScience Advances, April 11,2016, the scientists haveobserved that due to the

climate change and global warming, the polar meltingice sheet and natural changes in water storage on landcause the pole to shift, thereby tilting the axis of eartheast ward. 2. The scientists and researchers of NASA said thaton the earth since water can be transported in and outof the ocean to land affecting global means, sea levelscan also change the Moment of Inertia of the earthabout its axis, thereby leading to the tilting of spinningearth and resulting in the shifting of earth’s axis.

3. The National Institute of Geophysics andVolcanology in Italy said that a severe earthquake inJapan on April 20, 2011 of 8 to 9 magnitude moved themain Island of Japan by 8 feet, thereby causing a shiftin the earth’s axis by 4 inches.

4. The south pole acts as a gyroscope anchor to balanceearth’s axis, but melting of ice at the south pole due toglobal warming alters planetary balance, thereby causingsea level to rise along with an increase in humidity.

5. The earth’s axis has undergone a significant shift inDecember, 2004. There was a sudden imbalance inNature causing the Indonesian tsunami, thereby leadingto the death of a quarter million people.

6. Since 2004, the sun is rising and setting “North” ofUSA in June, and the fact that the sun is “South” ofAfrica and Australia in December establishes the factthat there is an axis shift of the earth.

7. The scientists have also recorded that significantshift of axis occurred in the years 2004, 2006, 2011,2013, 2014. In the year 2015, the axis of the earthreversed to the 2006 position of 850 miles from thenormal position (Normal position of earth’s axis is 23.5degrees tilted w.r.t the orbital plane that includes thesun and the earth).

From the above observations, we find that the naturalcleansing process has already started and Nature willcontinue this process until the earth becomes a pure placeonce again – a place where human beings should live inharmony with Nature obeying the inevitable divine lawsoperating in the whole cosmic universe.

One, who have faith in one’s own self and God to become a carefree emperor.

Education is of two types– knowing about theworld and knowing the

self. Our current system ofeducation is focused on teachingus about the world out there. Butas one grows older, he realizesthat it is even more important tounderstand the self – to learnabout the fears and anxieties, understand the weaknesses, andto learn how to bring out the bestin self. Our ancient system ofeducation seemed to havebalanced these two aspects well. But current education systemsare designed to give usqualifications to secure a job andseem to have lost the focus on‘inner education’. True educationis one which helps us tounderstand our inner conflicts, encourage creative andconstructive use of mind, andlearn how to optimize life and notbe a victim of situations. Trueeducation enables us to becreative and to grow in our life.Education is just not for givingus livelihood but giving us the artof living wholly and joyously.

INTEGRATING SPIRITUALITY INEDUCATION AND LIFE:

THE GOAL OF TRUE EDUCATION–B. K. Sujoy, Durgapur

God has endowed all humanbeings with the gift of mindwhich is the initiator of all ouraspirations and ambitions. It isthe quality of mind thatdifferentiates human beingsfrom the brutal. Hence, thetraining of mind is of paramountimportance in our life. But, it hasbeen vastly observed that oureducational institutions, whichimpart education to young ones, hardly put any emphasis on themoral and spiritual education ofthe young folk.

Bertrand Russell, a greatphilosopher of twentieth century, believed that the aim ofeducation is to form positivemental habits and outlook on lifeand the world. He said thateducation should not stuff ourmind with facts but it shoulddevelop our mind because thisworld is to be understood throughthe mind. The real aim ofeducation is to broaden the areaof human mind and humannature. It should help build up astrong and disciplined mindwhich would control our

activities and channelize ourdesires and impulses. It willenable us to beautify theotherwise ugly environment andwould give infinite peace to thepossessor.

Learning from experience, letting go of the past, andconnecting to people despitedifference are the importantingredients that come from truelearning. Walt Disney failedmany times but learnt the rightlessons and, hence, turnedfailure into success. If wecultivate the uplifting meaning ofexperience, then, we can learna lot from failures.

Also, one has to learn the artof ending one’s past and notconstantly fret and fume over it.Instead of carrying the pain offailure we should end thatincident in our mind. If we carrythe burden of yesterday, thepresent will be spoiled.

The third point is connectingto people despite differences. Ifwe can still bond with theperson we disagree, it builds our

Elevated souls cannot be influenced by matter or elements of Nature.

“Education is the great engine of personal development, it is what we make out of what wehave, not what we are given, that separates one person from another.” – Nelson Mandela

All of us celebrate variousfairs and festivals witha lot of ritualistic

fervours of different religionsand cultures. Well, some of usalso celebrate the beauty, diversity and grandeur ofNature.

This article gives anopportune occasion for all of usto understand ‘celebration’ asa ‘value’ and to ‘’CelebrateNature’’ with a difference, witha uniqueness of its newmeaning, import andsignificance.

In order to CelebrateNature with a difference, newimport, meaning, significance, we have to

CELEBRATING NATUREWITH A DIFFERENCE

– Dr. B.K. Yudhisthir, Ph.D.,Shantivan

understand the three veryimportant agencies of the vastCreation: Man (Purusha),Nature (Prakriti) and God(Param Purusha).1. The vast cosmic Creation is

an Eternal World Drama(EWD) of life in which Man,Nature and God play theireternal roles, and make theCreation and the World-Cyclerun in a cyclic/circular andrepetitive manner in everyKalpa a period of 5000years. The history andgeography of the worldrepeats exactly Kalpaafter Kalpa without anyinterruption andintervention!

2. Man, Nature and God playtheir apportioned rolesperfectly to create ‘harmony’in the universe, world andearth.

3.When there is perfectharmony among the threeagencies of Creation, the realcelebration is possible andactually happens becauseharmony gives us peace, purity, prosperity andhealth, wealth, happiness.

4. Disharmony takes away allthese from us, and then weare in no mood to celebrateat all. Moreover, disharmony among thethree agencies leads tochaos, confusion and theultimate destruction.

The new meaning ofNature:

Generally, we people, in ourutter ignorance, consider Natureto be only the outer fiveelements of physical Nature. This is a very narrow and limitedunderstanding or partial andincomplete truth. The newimport and meaning denotesthat Nature is of three kinds inconsonance with the three kindsof agencies of Man, Nature andGod. In order to CelebrateNature in true spirit, we haveto know and understand thethree kinds of Nature asexplained below:(i) The term ‘Man’ refers to all

‘human beings’ of theAnyone, who remains simple, becomes the sample in the showcase.

humanity and the ‘humannature’. A person is basicallya combination or compositionof both the body and soul/spirit/self. The soul has threecomponents such as mind(Mana), the thinking faculty;intellect (Buddhi), thejudging faculty; andimpression (sanskara), therecording faculty. Humannature is the sum total ofwhat all these faculties do,i.e., the composition of allconscious and/orsubconscious thoughts, feelings, emotions andactions of human being/soul.

(ii) Elemental Nature refers toouter material/physicalnature - the five elementssuch as earth, water, air, fireand ether; it acts like a motherand provides all our needs forphysical sustenance andnecessities of life. But,unfortunately and ignorantlywe loot, plunder, and destroythe Mother Natureshamelessly and accumulatethings more than our needdue to our ignoble andabominable greed andvoluptuous consumptionpatterns. We add to soil, water, air and noise pollutionsdue to our bad habits ofconsumerism culture andnihilistic nature, and also addto global warming by

Anyone, who takes the initiative, is the real Arjuna (one who earns).

increasing green house gasesthrough our nastyconsumption patterns. Howcan we love and celebrateNature when we deliberatelycontribute to utmostenvironmental pollution, deterioration and degradationby destroying the ecologicalbalance with our carelessand crude nature? What dowe learn after seeing somany recent earthquakes, tsunamis, tornadoes, typhoons and hurricanes, forest fires, gas tragedies ofBhopal and Upahar Cinema, nuclear holocausts ofHiroshima and Nagasaki, thetoppling of the World Towerin New York by the terroristand extreme activities offundamentalists like lateOsama bin Laden and hismore bloody successors andothers? Unless we, ignoranthuman beings, love, foster, save and take care of Naturethat loves, fosters and takescare of us, she herself willdestroy us in the form of somany natural calamities anddisasters. So, it is the hightime now not to sleepcarelessly and ignorantly anylonger but to open the thirddivine eye of spiritualknowledge in order to“know thyself” and knowGod and achieve thereby the

foremost aim and objectiveof human life: self-realization and God-realization for self-transformation and world-transformation.

(iii) Super Nature refers to God,the Supreme SupernaturalBeing, of the sixth element, called the metaphysicalworld, a above the fiveelement world. We shouldknow the truth about God andHis name (Nama), form(Rupa), abode (Desh), timeof descent on the earth(Kala) and Divine tasks oractions (Divya Kartavya). His name (Nama) is Shiva/Sadashiva, the everBenevolent One. Neither anycorporeal human being norany subtle (Aakari - withangelic body without flesh, blood and bones) deity being, can be called God. God isIncorporeal (Nirakar) - apoint-of-conscient-and-divine-light in form (Rupa). He resides in HisMetaphysical Abode(ParamDham) which is farbeyond the physical/materialworld of sun, moon and starsand the outer space; that iswhy He is called The OneAbove (Uparwala) whodescends down on the earthplanet according to theversion of The Gita in the

Such time of the LeapYuga is continuing now inwhich each and every humanbeing can gain again all thequalities, values, virtues andpowers from the SupremeSoul, the Spiritual God Fatherof all souls, as their birthright.

Praises of Nature by Man:Poets, essayists, novelists, and

dramatists of both the easternand western world havewritten eloquently on Naturein leading a contented humanlife. William Wordsworth, theEnglish romantic poet, considered and visualizedNature as a living spiritdwelling in parts and parcelsof the environment andregarded her as the Motherand caretaker. P. B. Shelley, another romantic poet, invokedthe West Wind, an element ofNature, saying, “O’ West Wind!Lift me as a leaf, a wave, acloud; I fall upon the thorns oflife, I bleed”, and he also wrote

the most prophetic line about thecyclic movement of seasons, “Ifwinter comes, can spring be farbehind?” John Keats, the otherpoet of the romantic era, alsoenjoyed fully the beauties ofNature and considered it as “athing of beauty is joy forever”.S.T. Coleridge, the poet, whilein the mid-sea wrote the famousline about water, anotherelement of Nature, saying,“Water, water everywhere butnot a drop to drink”. All theromantic poets are consideredthe worshippers of Naturebecause of their deep love andintimacy with Nature and itsvarious parts.

In the eastern world, theSanskrit poet and dramatist,Kalidas, in his epic poeticcreations like Meghdutam andKumar Sambhavam hasdepicted very succinctly thecharms and beauties of Nature. There are many other suchpoets in other languagesincluding Hindi who wrotehymns and praises of Naturein different styles andinterpretations.

Man’s Present Lack ofConcern for Nature

Man has lost concern forNature with the advent ofIndustrial Revolution, scientificand technological advancementand mechanization of everythingwhen the world is seen and

considered as a vast machine.Cut-throat competition forachieving material prosperity atthe cost of Nature also started. As a result, man began to loot, plunder and exploit Natureblindly without any conscienceand tried to use it not forsatisfying his needs but for hisabominable greed. MahatmaGandhi once said, “The worldhas everything enough forman’s need but nothing for hisgreed.”

Because of the lack ofconcern for Nature, the humanspirit of love, care and fosteringnature has been lost completelythereby making him a veritabledemon in man’s form, who haswaged a war for voluntarydepletion of Nature. Theerstwhile magnificent man hasnow become a melodramaticmaniac. Consequently, man haslost his harmony with it whichled to gross ecological imbalance. This paradoxical human plight, meaningless and disharmoniousliving of man in utter disregardof Nature has been explicitlyexplained through the followingfamous poetic lines of T.S. Eliot, the modern English Poet:“Where is the life we have lost

in living?Where is the wisdom we have

lost in knowledge?Where is the knowledge wehave lost in information?”

The more you become humble, the ample regard you will receive from all.

Rajyoga ‘harmonizes’ Man,Nature and God

Rajyoga practice is the onlyeffective way to achieve andmaintain ‘harmony’ among Man(soul), Nature (elements) andGod. Rajyoga is the loving, mental, spiritual connection andcommunion of the soul with theIncorporeal Supreme Soul, theGod Father of all souls throughthe use of our faculties of mind(Mana) and intellect (Buddhi).Gradual Rajyoga practice willtransport the soul/humanconsciousness from the grossphysical/material world to themetaphysical Soul World, calledNirvan Dham where all thesouls and the Supreme Soul Godreside, and make the connection, union and communion of the soulwith God. In other words,Rajyoga practically begins thespiritual process of change ofvision and attitude through the‘we’ feeling of ‘belongingness’and ‘harmony’ among Man(soul), Nature (elements) andGod (the Supernatural Being).

Let us take a voluntary oathto achieve and maintain‘harmony’ in all walks andspheres of our life by practisingRajyoga and obeying the sociallaws, natural laws, moral andspiritual laws, universal/cosmiclaws, in order to CelebrateNature and Our Life with true

meaning, significance and spirit. In order to harmonize with

Nature and celebrate Nature intrue spirit we have to understandthe meaning of the termNATURE as an acronym. Theterm NATURE as an acronymsuggests that it Nourishes andNurtures all with its provisions;Accepts all without anydiscrimination; Trusts all withoutany doubt; Uplifts all equallywithout any difference;Refreshes and Rejoices all withits natural resources; andEmbraces all without anyhesitation.

In order to establish andexperience the harmoniousrelationship with the wholecosmic universe, we have toestablish and experience thefollowing harmonies such as:

1. Harmony among Man(soul), Nature (elements)

Give happiness to get it; don’t give sorrow and don’t take it.

and God.2. Harmony in individual/man (soul/self) and his ownnature including threefaculties - mind, intellect andimpression (sanskars).

3. Harmony among one’sthoughts, words and actions.

4. Harmony between souland body

5. Harmony in Family andamong family members

6. Harmony in Society (athome, work places, clubs, playgrounds, groups, institutions, etc.) and itsindividual members

7. Harmony in Nature andamong its Elements with‘clean mind, green earth’

8. Harmony among variouscastes, colours, creeds, faiths, beliefs, languages, religions, genders, nationalities, etc.

maturity. Such a person is effective in communication; he istruly an educated person.

But, what we see today is that young people finish theircourses of study, pass out from colleges, grow in age, and yetdo not know the fundamentals of life or its meaning. The so-called educated man shows a complete lack of real goodnessand virtue. The goal of education is not merely material comfort, but inner growth and culture to help cultivate virtues of humility,self-control, compassion, patience and forgiveness. These hecan cultivate only when one realizes his real true nature of peace, purity and love. It is high time that the educational institutionsstrive to attain the goal of true education, viz. integratingspirituality in education and life.

The highest religiousscripture known as TheBhagavad Gita teaches

us how to live in this world, doour duty and yet remain like alotus above the surface of water.Similarly, The Supreme SoulShiv Baba (ParampitaParmatma) is directly teachingus all the ways of living awholesome life and what weshould do from dawn to duskand up to the time we go to bed.In short, The Bhagavad-Gita’sfew teachings vis-à-vis BABA’steachings through Murli aresummarized below for easyconsummation of theknowledge.

FIRST LESSON:Who are we? Because most

of the problems arise when wetend to identify ourselves withour physical personalities. Thescriptures make it clear that thebody is unreal and it is like agarment worn by the self. Weare actually the spiritual selves. The individual self that exists ineach of us is real and permanentand it is immortal andindestructible.

SECOND LESSON:Our mind is the seat of our

desires, thoughts and feelings. Our wandering senses keep ourmind in a state of turmoil. Anunstable mind is characterized byegoistic thinking and desire-ridden actions. A man withunstable mind is not fit forliberation. His consciousnesskeeps wandering around senseobjects and remains entangled inthe distractions of the world.Through self-discipline, adevotee can control the activityof the senses, developdetachment from the senseobjects and achieve calmness. With the attainment of calmnessin mind, all his sorrows wouldcome to an end. He can thenestablish his mind in God andachieve union with Him.

THIRD LESSON:By merely restraining our

senses and controlling our minds,we will not be able to freeourselves from the cycle of birth, death and rebirth because nonecan escape from activity orremain inactive even for amoment when playing one’s roleremaining in the body.Whosoever is born on the earth,is helplessly driven to action byhis inborn qualities. Thus one

should perform one’s obligatoryduties. While performing hisduties, he should not have anyattachment with the work he isdoing. He should not have anydesire for the fruit of actions. Heknows various methods throughwhich sacrifices are performed.Through knowledge, hebecomes free from the bondageof action. His action is burnt upin the fire of wisdom and throughknowledge he attains peace.

FOURTH LESSON:As none can escape from

activity or remain inactive evenfor a moment, whoever is bornon earth is helplessly driven toaction by his in-born qualities. One should perform hisobligatory duty, as action issuperior to inaction. Whileperforming duties he should notthink that he is the doer, nor heshould have any attachment forthe work he is doing. A wiseperson acts without attachment.

FIFTH LESSON;A Karmayogi performs

actions only with his senses, mind, intellect and body, focusingon his inner purification andoffering the fruits of his actionsto God. Thus, one attains peacein the form of self-realisation.He becomes one with God andattains liberation. He remainsthe same amidst heat and cold, pleasure and pain, honour anddishonour. For him, a clod of

Balance between remembrance and service to become a speedier effort-maker.

Love is considered to be agreat power which issaid to give a new life to

people. It turns impossible intopossible. It is also believed thattrue and unconditional love leadsone to happiness. Experiencesays that when one’sexpectations of love are notfulfilled, one tends to commitimmoral acts such as infidelityor extramarital affairs, divorces, murders, suicides, etc.

False Notion of LoveAll these acts happen because

human beings have failed tounderstand true love in its truesense. In the mirage ofmodernity, today, due to body-consciousness most peopleconsider physical love to be thereal love. Obscenity in films isalso largely responsible for it.Even though such a love fulfilsone’s sensual desires, but, in thelong run, it proves to bedangerous. Today, people havebecome so much busy and self-centred that they cannot fulfilthe love at even emotional levelas the soul has becomecompletely weak. Since death isconsidered to be the only truthand inevitable in man’s life, it

must be realised that everythingwhat one sees including one’sbody is temporary. Therefore, considering lust as true love isquite an illusion. Thus, instead ofrunning after physical love, people must understand truelove in its real sense and makeit the adornment of their life.

Understanding of TrueLove

One may ask: what is reallove? We often say ‘God is love’or ‘Love is God’. This is a verycommon belief because God islove-full and never hates anyone. He is called the Ocean of Love, the Ocean of Purity, the mostBenevolent, the Almighty andour Supreme Father. His love isdivine and spiritual. He doesn’twant us to live a distressed anddepressed life which we, ingeneral, are leading at present. He too wants us to be MasterOcean of love and love eachother as divine beings, which ispossible only if we understandand experience what true loveis all about. And, then only, wecan have a peaceful, joyful andhappy life.

Valentine DayThe 14th day of February is

celebrated to commemorate thedeath anniversary of a greatlover of mankind, Saint Valentineof Rome, Italy. Peopleexchange gifts, spend specialmoments with each other andsome express their love-filledfeelings to their loved ones. But,despite celebrating this festivalfor years, real love is foundwanting in our lives. There arevery few couples in the worldtoday who are leading a life ofmutual trust and love in today’sworld.

Love is one of the basicvirtues of souls. It is a fineremotion among family members, friends, colleagues, classmates, students and teachers, etc. From a broader perspective, true love is the expression oflove towards every humanbeing; it is divine love that isdevoid of any bodily or physicalfeeling because body is mortalwhereas pure or divine love iseternal. Selfless love inspires usto love all the human beingsequally and unconditionally. It isdue to absence of this love that, today, we are witnessing theworld fallen apart due to theundue and evil expression of thefeelings of hatred, anger, mistrust and violence in us.

Drama through the corporealmedium of Prajapita Brahma. He reminds us that originally wewere divine souls; but during theprocess of taking birth afterbirth, we started identifyingourselves with bodies and beganto depend on sensual pleasuresto attain happiness and peace. It is because of body-consciousness that we soulshave already become vicious, thereby losing our basic essentialvirtues such as Knowledge,Purity, Peace, Love, Happiness,Bliss and Power. The impurityof vices has made us impure, sorrowful and sinful, thus, completely weak. Rajyogapractice helps to realise the selfas a soul and remember God,the Supreme Father, constantlyeven while performing actions. This mental link of soul with theSupreme Soul strengthens thesoul.

God further reveals that dueto our ignorance on the path ofBhakti we mistakenly calledHim omnipresent and, thus, believed Him to be present in allthe creatures of the world, and, thus, started belittling Him. Yet,being the Ocean of Forgivenessand Love, He forgives all ourfaults and accepts us as we are.He lovingly teaches us so thatwe can become completelyvirtuous like Him. As theSupreme Teacher, He teaches usthe art of pure and spiritual love.

Constantly remain set in your position to finish all sorts of opposition.

Love – the only lesson tomake us complete

The process of WorldTransformation has to happen ata fast pace now. In order tomake us pure and eligible tohave a good status in theforthcoming new age, God isadvising us to have our intellectconstantly and lovingly linked toHim through constant andregular Rajyoga practice.

The most important lesson thatGod wants us to learn is todevelop pure and spiritual love.A beautiful vision of love is todevelop a pure consciousness ofrealising the self and others asspiritual beings (i.e. souls) and, thus, not getting influenced bythe physical form. Love for Godcan change our viciouspropensities into positive onesand it changes the way we lookat others. By developing truelove for God, all our negativeweaknesses and shortcomingscan be conquered easily andtransformed into positivepowers.

Let us recognise andunderstand the Supreme Father,God Shiva, the Ocean of Love, and experience His Love, always remaining under Hiscanopy of protection and makingthe self as loving as He is. Thatwill be the true celebration ofValentine Day.

So, from now onwards, let’smake God Shiva, our true and

most beloved Valentine! Wish youall a Godly Valentine Day!

earth or a piece of gold is thesame. He is equal mindedamong friends and foes, andamong the saints and sinnersalike.

SIXTH LESSON: One should remember God

at all times, with mind andintellect absorbed in Him. Byconstant practice of yoga, without thinking anything else, constantly meditating uponHim, he attains the SupremeDivine. Fools do not recognizeHim, but wise know His truenature and worship Him withunwavering devotion.

SEVENTH LESSON:For devotees who worship

Knowledge goes a longway in bringing changein the society and the

world. Only knowledge andunderstanding level in right ordercan change any society. Thoughknowledge level differs fromperson to person and theaverage understanding sustainsthe society accordingly. But howcould we be the people withbetter understanding? There isno fixed time to acquire thisquality in the life of a humanbeing. We all pass throughdifferent stages in a lifetime andour understanding level graduallyincreases with our age growth. But, many times, the expectationof attaining maturity inunderstanding in later ages doesnot match and perhaps this is themajor cause of degradation ofthe younger generations. Then,it seems to be in mind thatmaturity does not come onlywith age, it needs somethingother. When understanding levelof average people becomes low, society remains relatively inimmature stage beyond ourperception. Maturity of an oldermember in a family is not only

UNDERSTANDING — BK Dr. Swapan Rudra, Durgapur (W.B.)

an important factor for thatfamily but also for the neighbour, surroundings and other placeswherever he/she goes. Maturityin younger age is always anextra benefit to the family andsociety. Often in a tender age, good understanding at anycritical moment may comeautomatically as a result of goodsanskars that is not evenexpected from the age oldpersons in the same situation.Social damage or instability in anation is not only due to theexotic factors, but, most of thetime, it is because of internalcause of low level ofunderstanding.

The earth rotates on its axis inaccurate order. Seasons changedue to its revolution around thesun in its fixed axial inclination. But, on this earth, our days donot always run in order; somedays may be pleasant for somebut painful for others. Disorderalways brings chaos in humanlife, making the families turbulent, the effect of which is reflectedin the society. Very few personstake the responsibility of removingchaos from the society and,

hence, they set a very goodexample by their tireless effortsin giving service to others.Brahma Kumaris Organisation(BKO) is an excellent place oftrue education, aiming at self-development of all the individualswithout any discrimination ofcaste, creed or religion. This isthe only University named asPrajapita Brahma KumarisIshwariya Vishwa Vidyalaya, thesyllabus of which is completelydifferent from others and whereGod is the Supreme Teacher. Itis really unbelievable to themwho are yet to get the opportunityto enter in this spiritual Universitywhere anyone may takeadmission without any academicqualification. Godly knowledgehelps to rectify ourselves in day-to-day life and in this purificationprocess God transforms thehuman beings into deities throughrevelation of original qualities ofsouls such as power, purity, happiness, peace, love, knowledge and bliss. SwamiVivekananda has rightly said,“Each soul is potentially divine;the only way is to manifest thesame by changing the nature,

If you don’t get a chance to serve through words, do serve through mind.

both internal and external”.What a vast knowledge andgreat understanding Swamiji hadonly at an age of 32 years! Longbefore Swamiji, Jesus Christ andShankaracharya did miraculousjob for the society nearly at thesame age. Better understandingis not a matter of chance; it’s amatter of choice that comesfrom exceptional thoughts andsuperb feelings. It is an inheritedquality of some persons andacquired in few cases. Majorityin ordinary thinking level can noteven imagine the necessity ofknowledge and understandingfor the true benefit of the self, other people and society as awhole. Rabindranath Tagore andMahatma Gandhi are always inour mind not only for theirextraordinary knowledge andunderstanding but for theircapacity to pour the same intothe running streams of thesociety. APJ Abdul Kalam willbe remembered as a beautifulpersonality for his exceptionalknowledge and extraordinarythinking both in science andsociology. Some beautiful linesDr. Kalam usually quoted are asfollows:

“Where there is righteousnessin the heart, there is beauty inthe character. Where there isbeauty in the character, there isharmony in the hope. Wherethere is harmony in the hope, there is order in the nation.

Serving through mind can make you a number one serviceable soul.

Where there is order in thenations, there is peace in theworld.”

The great personalitiespossess high quality ofunderstanding because theirinside treasure box is filled withpower, purity, truth and wisdom. No person is ordinary; we all areunique in some sense or theother and are playing our ownroles in this vast world drama. We always compare ourselveswith some toppers in variousfields like sports, music, literature, science, etc. and, bymeans of unhealthy comparison,we make ourselves inferior. Weinvite frustration, agony and paininside, leading to anxiety anddepression. We just add pain topain and lose our self-confidenceand self-esteem. Then, wherefrom the power of positivethoughts and understanding willcome? I have to realize mystrength and ability and then Ican choose any option for betterperformance. Once I makemyself aware of my limitations,I will never be in a false position.Once I fix my goal according tomy capacity, I will succeed inmy own way. But, if it is just toearn money and status by anymeans, I can not sense thesuccess I presumed. We maycontinue living such life as themajority of people prefer atpresent, but life will not be fullof peace and happiness.

Normally, we spend our daysaccording to our desire which isgenerated from our ownthoughts. If we are onlyconcerned about what isadvantageous and profitable forus, we will never be carefulabout what is right. Gradually,we could be far away from truthand idealism, the crisis of whichis most prevalent now.

Long ago WilliamShakespeare showed the path ofgetting success by threesentences: 1. Know more thanothers 2. Work more than others3. Expect less than others. Onlya few persons follow the greatpersonalities or saints and, hence, still now we are surviving on thisearth by virtue of a little bit ofpatience and tolerance. Everyhuman being has the potential tobe virtuous and to lead aqualitative life. As soon as Iknow myself as a soul, automatically the soul’s qualitiesradiate in rainbow form and thenI can achieve the eight self-controlling powers and becomean enriched human being withtransparent knowledge and clearunderstanding. In Bhakti cult, sofar we have prayed to God orother deities to make us goodthrough blessings, but, in BrahmaKumaris Organization (BKO),we choose to be good throughour personal self-transformation.Actually, we are the bundles of

the destruction, to lie in the stateof Nirvan, i.e., in a peaceful stateof speechlessness.

In sum, God is notOmnipresent, as is popularlybelieved. He is only a subtleinvisible flame, whose abode isfar away in the sixth elementnamed Brahma Tatva. His realsweet name is Shiva, the Doerof Good, which is symbolic, in thesense that the Supreme Soulstands to the human soul in thethree fundamental relationshipsof Supreme Father, Teacher andGuide – all in one, which, even inthe worldly sense, are consideredto be essentially beneficial. Andthat is why, He has been sung inthe scriptures as:

Thou art Mother and FatherSupreme,

Thou art our Teacher, Giver ofknowledge Supreme,

Thou art our All, O SoulSupreme!

Descent of the SupremeSoul Shiva

The question that arises is:“How and when does theSupreme Soul actually appear toperform His self-assignedbeneficial functions?” Theanswer is that being incorporealand also free from the bondageof birth and death, He adopts acorporeal medium, throughwhom He imparts knowledgeabout Himself and acts as aGuide, Teacher and Preceptor. In

other words, He descends ontothe body of an ordinary old manand gives His teachings throughhim. He names this person asPrajapita Brahma and endowshim with divine vision and qualitiesso as to create a powerful impacton those of His children who aredrawn to Him, as it were, like aneedle to a magnet.

And this Divine Descent orBirth of God Shiva takes placeat a time when He is needed themost, i.e., when the worldtouches the lowest depths ofdegradation, sin and misery andthe appearance of the Redeemeris urgently called for, as is alsowritten in The Gita. TheSupreme Soul appears at the endof every 5000 years to bring aboutthe re-establishment of the orderof Satyuga, the era of peace andfelicity and annihilation of theorder of Kaliyuga, the era of sinand vice, in the PurushottamaSangam Yuga. This divinedescent, advent or divine birth ofGod Shiva into the body ofPrajapita Brahma is celebrated as“Shivratri”.

Divine Functions of theSupreme Soul

As a result of these divine actsperformed by God Father Shiva, the vast majority of sinful souls, after suffering punishments, attainMukti (liberation) and revert toParam Dham or Nirvan Dham, where they lie dormant in a stateof peace and silence. The few

souls, who, after receiving theGodly knowledge throughPrajapita Brahma, have purifiedthemselves and extinguished theirsins by constant remembrance ofGod Father Shiva, attain JeevanMukti or, in other words, areelevated by Him to deity status,as a reward of their earnestendeavours to uplift themselves. They also revert to ParamDham, from where, after a shortwhile, they pass on to the Satyugiworld to relive through 21 livesin perfect peace, purity, bliss andfelicity according to the statusthey have attained in the celestialhierarchy.

At the head of this spiritualhierarchy stand PrajapitaBrahma, and also JagadambaSaraswati, who are subsequentlyreborn in Satyuga and reigntogether as sovereigns in thebeginning of the Satyuga as ShriNarayana and Shri Lakshmi, succeeded by eight generationsof their descendants. This Goldenperiod runs uninterruptedly for1250 years, under the name ofSuryavanshi dynasty. Thenfollows Treta Yuga with thepeaceful reign of Shri Rama andShri Sita, which is proverbial evento this day under the name of‘Ram Rajya’. Twelvegenerations of their dynasty, known as Chandra Vanshi, ruleBharat undisturbed for another1250 years. With the passage oftime, however, this bliss and

Godly love is the main foundation of Brahmin family and life.

felicity begins to deteriorategradually at first, but sharplythereafter, as a result of theirgodliness becoming diluted by theinroads of body- consciousness.

Maya, the great temptress, continues corrupting the lives ofpeople until at last, they begin tosuccumb to the five great vices -sex, anger, avarice, attachmentand last but not least, arrogance. These vices bring sin, misery andpain while to get release fromthem, people resort to thepractice of all kinds of sacrificesand austerities and seek relief inthe fruitless study of scriptures— Vedas and Shastras— andpractise various cults and forms. The Bhakti cult, in course of time, comes to dominate all the rest.Despite all this, the moral andspiritual decline of man continuesprogressively during the next2500 years until, at last, hereaches the end of Kaliyuga inhis moral dismal, degenerated anddegraded state. At this crucialstage, the Incorporeal SupremeSoul Shiva, for the purpose ofreviving the divine faith and re-establishing the reigns ofrighteousness, Himself descendsfrom His eternal abode, and usesa human conduit to impart trainingof Rajyoga meditation to humansouls, thereby restoring them totheir former state of pristine glory

and celestial sovereignty. At theend of the cycle, the worldundergoes transformationthrough natural calamities, endemic civil strife, and throughnuclear and thermo-nuclearbombs and missiles - the self-created engines of ultimate self-destruction.

God Shiva – Our LovingFather, Guide And Teacher,

All In OneIn sum, God is our Teacher,

because He teaches us Gyanand Yoga. He is our Guide andPreceptor because He teachesus to attain Mukti and Jeevan-Mukti and above all, He is ourloving Father, because Heactually comes to take us backto our real abode. It is a greatpity indeed that while we keepchanting His name as suchthrough the ages, we are sosadly unaware of thesignificance of this vital Father-

Guide-Teacher relationship, asalso the fact that He does cometo meet us at a scheduled period. Is it any wonder then that, dueto lack of this sublimeknowledge, we cheat ourselvesof the rich rewards that mightbe ours, if only we know?

From the foregoing, it is clearthat the present time is the fagend of the Iron Age and thedawn of the Golden Age, in thatthe human souls are in the firmgrip of sins and vices and havebecome totally devoid ofGodliness in consequence. Thehuman world has becomeenveloped in misery due to lackof peace and its destruction isimminent. The Supreme SoulShiva has already descended andis imparting divine knowledge. Itis for us to be awake and to takeour divine inheritance from theFather. This is the realsignificance of “Shivratri”.

our thoughts, and our destiny is not a chance, but a choice. TheBrahma Kumaris Organization has brought some very simplelessons, i.e., power to accept everyone as they are; forgiveand forget; past is past; from self-change to world change, etc. before the public to discuss and to extract the essence ofthese lessons, and to taste it in the practical life. These lessonsare not new, but are very useful for our life. If we try, we canfollow the same and slowly our vision and attitude will bechanged, formatting us with good understanding, thereby givingbenefit to the whole humanity.
