Introduction:TheroleofagreatuniversitymuseumTheMuseumofTexasTechUniversityhasitsoriginsastheWestTexasMuseum,establishedin1929.TodaytheMuseumservesboththeUniversityandthediversecommunityofgreaterLubbockandWestTexas,andhasconnectionsthatspantheworld.Tobeagreatmuseum,theMuseumofTexasTechUniversitymustembodythebestinmuseumpracticeasrecognizedfor21stcenturymuseumsandasisproperforanAmericanAllianceofMuseumsaccreditedmuseum.Tobeagreatuniversitymuseum,theMuseummustrecognizeitsrole–auniquerole-inadvancingonthestrategicprioritiesofTexasTechUniversityandinlinkingtheUniversitytoitsdiversecommunity.TheUniversity(‘Campus’)andtheCommunityarethekeystakeholdersoftheMuseumofTexasTechUniversity.TexasTechUniversityhasdefineditsstrategicambitionsinthestrategicplan,MakingItPossible,whichidentifiesfivestrategicpriorities:
