Whether youhave a dinosaur track, a fish fossil, a plant fossil,mysterious marks or just plain weird, interesting, orbeautiful rocks, bring them on down to the GreatFalls Discovery Center, have them identified by ascientist, and show them to like-minded souls.

Paleontologist Patrick Getty from the UConn will beon hand to examine fossils and tell you somethingabout their history – how they were made andpreserved. Geologist Steve Winters will help you tounderstand rock specimens you’re curious about –what minerals they contain and what geologicalforces created them. learning Community for fall 2010Learning Communities offer students the opportunity for a rich educational experience. Enrolling in one of theseteam-taught interdisciplinary offerings with assignments that focus on a common theme has several benefits:

1. Develop a personal sense of community with other students and faculty while building a social andacademic community;

2. Make relationships between subject matter by connecting learning across courses;3. Further your education through active learning and class participation;4. Satisfy liberal arts requirements.

Spanish language and College reading Strategies (8 credits)Students learn the reading and study strategies necessary to be successful in college while learning tocommunicate in Spanish across cultures. Books, poetry, articles, films, and other course material focus onthe Latino experience.

This learning community offers students a unique opportunity to begin their academic careers in abilingual setting. Research indicates that second language study reinforces the developmental process inboth languages.

For students who hope to transfer to a four-year institution, this option is a particularly good choice, as itallows them to start a future language requirement here at GCC in a supportive learning community.

We apologize but sometimescourses are cancelled.Massachusetts state law requires the Continuing Educationprograms to operate at no cost to (with no tax support from)the Commonwealth. The decision to cancel is made at theclose of the posted registration period and before classesmeet and is based on fully paid fees on that date.

We attempt to reach everyone in a cancelled class bytelephone or postcard so they can choose another course ortell us that they would like a refund. Completing registration ontime helps the college avoid unnecessary class cancellations.
