San Jose Mission: Create a safe learning

environment which promotes academic excellence through the partnership of students, families,

staff and community.

P E the Place to BE

We would like to thank all of those who donated to the American Heart Association’s Jump Rope for Heart this year. As of October 27th, we have received $640.00. Already that is a good increase from last year. We will be collecting donations until November 6th. If you send money in with your child just mark their name, teacher and amount please. If you would like to participate on line the website is: www.heart.org/jump . Our students are learning heart

facts in their PE classes this month as part of our heart awareness. Thank you again for your generosity.

FUEL UP TO PLAY 60 Our two activity plans are underway for this year. On

Wednesdays we invite students to come out before

school and walk or run for fun. On Thursdays we offer

before school activity time for students to come to the

PE area and get moving. These times allow students a

few minutes before school to be active, which is proven

to be beneficial to learning processes.

Students earn tokens for every mile they

complete during the running club time. We will begin

offering breakfast outside on Thursday mornings to any

students who would like to eat outside during the

activity time.

News from the SJ

Media Center

Lots of reading is going on at San

Jose, as our 3rd, 4th and 5th graders continue to check out and read the

15 SSYRA Battle of the Books. With the help of our PTA, we were

able to purchase a class set for each of our intermediate

grades in addition to the media center sets. Students read as many of the 15 as they can. The county

test that helps determine teams for our contest

will be coming in December or January.

Copies of the books are also available online through the

MackinVIA site. Kids log into Focus and the

MackinVIA site is listed on the right. They

use their rd.d2 and s.# https://focus.pcsb.org/focus/inde

The Media Center is also looking for volunteers for the upcoming

Holiday Book Fair that will be running at the same time as our

December PTA Winter Fest. Please contact Bridget Harper,

our volunteer liaison at 469-5956, if you would like to help.

We NEED you!

The silent auction at our Winter Fest is a big opportunity to offset the costs of the Graduation Celebration at the end

of the year.

We need you to reach out to friends, family and neighbors who would be

willing to donate “big ticket” items to increase the value of the baskets. We

are looking for gift cards for restaurants, movies, hair salons, event tickets or anything else you can think

of.

We also need parents to help assemble baskets before the event and work the

auction on December 17.

If you are able to lend a hand or donate items, please contact Bridget Harper at

office to receive a pass in order to be allowed into class.

If you would like to walk your child onto campus or into breakfast, please park in our upper parking lot that you can enter from San Helen Drive. If you park in this lot, you MUST walk your child across the bus circle

and into the patio area. Students are NOT allowed to walk alone in the parent /visitor parking.

IF you do not want to get out of your car to drop off or pick up, please drive around and use the car circle entrance off of San Jose Drive. The car circle is a quick and easy way to drop off and pick up your child.

When picking up in the car circle, you need to display a “Student Pick Up” card in your car window in order to speed up the process and ensure that your child is entering the correct vehicle. If you do not have this

card, they are available in the front office. IMPORTANT… Do NOT park and walk your child to class from the car circle!!

HAVE YOU HEARD?

Walk and Talk is a student favorite here at San Jose. Every day, weather permitting, students in grades 1-5 have the opportunity to head out side for some free play! The last 15 minutes of the class’s lunch time is Walk and Talk time. We have four square, jump ropes, hula hoops, board games and many other things set up outside by the media center to entertain themselves with.

We didn’t forget the younger classes…Both kindergarten and PreK have their own playgrounds just for them and have daily free time to run around and be kids.

News from the Hawk Art Department

Thank you to all the parents of 3rd and 4th grade students that sent in permission slips for the tag art design. Our artists did a great job on their

designs. The sale of the tag art will begin on Nov. 1st. Please check out this site for more information: http://www.taxcollect.com/kids-tag-art/

Two student artists had their artwork accepted into a juried art show, The Creative StART. They are 5th grader, Aidan R. and Kindergartener,

Isabella D. Yay! We’re so proud of our Hawk Artists! The Pinellas County K-5 exhibit will be at the Dunedin Fine Art Center in the Kokolakis Youth Family Gallery from Oct. 30th-Dec. 31st. The reception will be Sunday,

Nov. 14th from 1:00-3:00 pm.

We had a successful turnout at the Administration Building, for our big county wide art exhibit, this past month. I was stationed on the third

floor, helping families find their artworks. I saw a couple of you, but also missed some of you, as your art works were on other floors. If you didn’t get to make it, the art work will be on display for the entire school year.

Check it out at this link https://player.vimeo.com/video/143732925?autoplay=1

Our artists that have their works on display are: Summer D., Jackson H., Ari K., Ezra K., Bogi S., Adrien S. and our prior students Mariam and Nour

H., Austin L. and Avery M.

The tradition, since 2009, of posting artworks on Artsonia is continuing. Every student builds a virtual art portfolio on this site. It’s so

exciting for parents, students, friends and family to see how hard our artists are working. It is encouraged to have students write their own

artist statements, if they didn’t do so in class. Please comment and be sure to compliment your favorite artist, as

well. http://www.artsonia.com/schools/school.asp?id=85366
