Holy Hikers to Parkin State Park May 11th Join us for an easy hike to a 2,000-year old Indian Village in Parkin, AR, on Satur-day, May 11th. The 17-acre village site covers what was once a thriving village of an estimated 2,000 people. It was so well known in its time that Hernando de Soto visited in 1541. The 3/4 mile trail is level and easy to walk, as well as being ADA accessible.
The Indian Village was succeeded by a lumber town around 1900 that has a mill, school house, and cemetery still standing for your exploration. The large lumber settlement timbered the area, sending lumber down the St. Francis River to the nearby Mississippi River where it was shipped to build the growing commercial cities both up and down the “Mighty Miss”.
We will meet in the church parking lot at 9:00 am. It is less than an hour’s drive. Bring plenty of water and dress for the weather. Depending on our timing, we may visit nearby Wilson, AR, for a delicious lunch and walking tour. Or you may bring your own lunch or snacks. Call Frank Potter 901-230-1818 for more infor-mation. We hope to see you there on what will be a fascinating historical visit to the Delta area!

Reading with the Rector book club will meet on Tuesday, May 21st at 6:30 pm in the Conference Room to discuss the nonfiction work Blood and Thunder by Hampton Sides.
A magnificent history of the American conquest of the West; "a story full of authority and color, truth and prophe-cy" (The New York Times Book Review).
In the summer of 1846, the Army of the West marched through Santa Fe, en route to invade and occupy the Western territories claimed by Mexico. Fueled by the new ideology of “Manifest Destiny,” this land grab would lead to a decades-long battle between the United States and the Navajos, the fiercely resistant rulers of a huge swath of mountainous desert wilderness.
At the center of this sweeping tale is Kit Carson, the trapper, scout, and soldier whose adventures made him a legend. Sides shows us how this illiterate moun-tain man understood and respected the Western tribes better than any other American, yet willingly followed orders that would ultimately devastate the Navajo nation. Rich in detail and span-ning more than three decades, this is an essential addition to our understanding of how the West was really won.

Adult Christian Education
Sunday, May 5th Parishioner Tom Carpenter will finish his presentation on the early Christian church post-resurrection. We will be discussing the stories that the New Testament authors told about the resurrection of Jesus and the importance to the early church and for us today.
Including: • the emergence of apocalyptic thinking and theology prior to Jesus’ life
and ministry, including Jewish resistance to Roman occupation • what it means to first-century Jews when Jesus declares that “the kingdom of God has come near”, • an examination of the four Gospel accounts regarding the resurrection
of Jesus, particularly the role of women in these accounts, and, how the early church understood bodily resurrection and was able to imagine living differently as a result of their experience of the risen Christ.
Rector’s Forum will take a break during the summer months and resume in September.
Rector’s Forum Sundays at 10:10 am
