ROYAL AUSTRALIAN AIR FORCE.VACANCIES FOR CADETSHHIPS.

API'LIC ATIONS are invited from candidates resident inAustralia, desiring appointment to cadetships at No. ï

Flying Training School, Royal Australian Air Force, PointCook, Victoria.

2. Candidates must be British subjects of pure Europeandescent, have attained their 18th birthday but not their 22nd.birthday on the 1st July, 1934. They must be unmarried andmust have obtained a certificate of having passed at one ofthe following examinations conducted by the Universities orEducation Departments of the various States :

(i) Intermediate Examination.(ii) Junior Public Examination.

( Physics or Elementary Science and Mathematicsare compulsory subjects.)

3. Cadetships are available for candidates desiring subse-quent appointment to short service commissions of four (4)years in the Royal Australian Air Force ór five (5) years inthe Royal Air Force (Imper -ial) for service in England, India,Iraq, Egypt, &c. Selected candidates undergo courses of flyingtraining at Point Cook for a period of approximately twelvemonths, commencing about 15th July, 1934, and 15th January,1935, and on taking up duty after graduation are appointedPilot Officers in the General Duties Branch.

4. Successful candidates will be allowed free travelling toPoint Cook to take up cadetships. During the currency ofthe Financial Emergency Act an allowance of 8s. ld. per diemis made and ls. 5d. per diem towards the cost of messing.Single quarters are provided free. The salary of a single PilotOfficer in the Royal Australian Air Force during the currencyof the Financial

RoyalEmergency Act is £289 per annum with free

single quarters. Within three and a half years after appoint-ment to cadetships such officers would normally be receivingsalary at the rate of £390 per annum after promotion to FlyingOfficer.

Candidates selected for the Royal Air Force will, on gradua-tion, receive free first class passages to take up appointmentswith units in England or abroad and return passages to Aus-tralia at the termination of their short service commissions.
