Device Operation, startup

• Runs POST upon starting up

• In case of a POST failure, the CSM will display an appropriate message / alert

Device operation, battery status indicator

• Connected to mains, battery charging or full (estimated charge is displayed as a percentage of capacity)

• running on battery power , remaining capacity of all batteries: – 1–4 bars (represents % charge left) – Estimated charge time remaining

• When battery is running low, CSM will give 2 warnings: – Amber low priority, appr. 30 mins left – Red high priority, critically low

• Alarms screen: general alarm settings and setting alarm limits for parameters (only available in intervals profile)

• Review screen: review, send and delete recorded data

• The CSM can present physiological and technical alarms

• 4 different alarm priority levels: – Information: blue background, 1 or 2 pulse tone

– Very low priority: cyan background , 1 or 2 pulse tone

– Low and medium priority: amber background , 3 pulse tone

– High priority: red background , 10 pulse tone

• Alarms are traceable via the log file and are maintained for 14 Log files

• Intervals can be set as:

– Automatic with a defined interval

– Stat: a 5 minute continuous measuring

– Program: Programs 1 – 5 are configured in the advanced settings, users can only run them, Program 6 can be configured by the user

• The following user profiles are available (model dependent): – Spot profile

– Office profile

– Intervals profile

• Spot and Office profiles lack intervals alarms etc.

Troubleshooting, symptoms and solutions

• Symptoms are unexpected behavior that do not necessarily trigger an alarm or message

• Refer to the symptom and solutions table in the service manual

• This table will help you to deduct the cause of the issue and suggests actions to resolve it

Troubleshooting, technical alarms

• Technical alarms appear as messages in the status bar and follow the same logic as physiological alarms

• Most tech alarms are low (Cyan) or very low (blue) priority

• The messages can be traced in the DFU and service manual for possible causes and suggested action

Troubleshooting, getting the log files

• All technical alarms are maintained in the log

• The log can be saved to a USB drive and reviewed on a PC – To save the log to a USB drive: go to Service > Log file and

touch Save to USB

– On the USB drive, look for the zip file with the correct time stamp,

– within that zip file you will find another zip file for each day

– within that zip file you will find multiple log files for that specific day (the highest number is the latest one)

– These files can be opened with Wordpad

Troubleshooting, reading the log files

• The log messages follow this format:

<PRI>ISODATE(sp)MSGHDR:(sp)MSG(new-line)

– <PRI>: Facility and Priority number

– ISODATE: datestamp in this format: yyyy-mm-ddThh:mm:ss.mmm+-ZONE

– MSGHDR: Message header and [PID]

– MSG: text of the actual message

Troubleshooting, deciphering <PRI>

• To get the facility number: – Round down PRI/8 to an integer

• To get severity number: – PRI - (Facility x 8)

• Facility and Severity codes can be traced in the service manual

• The message header indicates the program or process

• The message indicates the actual issue

• If the message also contains a code, then this message can also be found in the error messages table in the manual

CSM Service options

• Troubleshooting may lead to the requirement to replace some internal parts like boards, cables etc.

– For this follow the disassembly and reassembly instructions in the next slides

• After service and also as a preventive periodic maintenance, a full functional verification is required.

• Individual parts like boards, pump etc. are not to be repaired but replaced only

• Welch Allyn supplies service kits, these kits include parts that are usually replaced together .

• The service kits including the material numbers are listed in the service manual

• Make sure to have a clean work space

Welch Allyn Service tool (WAST)

• The Welch Allyn Service tool works with the CVSM, CIWS, CSM, CP150 and ProBP and future Platform devices and can be downloaded from the Welch Allyn website

• The tool comes with Calibration process locked which requires a license to unlock

• After repair training (online or classroom), a Gold license (Device specific) will be supplied to the trainee (not to the organization he or she works for)

• The tool is used for the following: – Review device info – Schedule device maintanance – Install software updates and upgrades – View logs (event- and error) – User administration – Basic device check (NIBP accuracy, leak and over-

pressure test) – Program device SN after main PCB exchange (Gold

license only) – Full functional verification and calibration (Gold license

only)

Post repair actions, Main PCBA replacement

• After replacement of the main PCBA, use the WAST to:

– Program the device sn and host controller sn (sticker on the main PCBA)

– Program Device model number

– Re-initiate the NIBP module

– Update device firmware to the latest version

– Perform a Full functional calibration using WAST with a gold license

• In WAST, double click the device

• Go to Configure – Current settings – change

• Enter device sn, Host controller sn and model number and click save

• In WAST, double click device, go to upgrade tab

• Click check for upgrades (internet connection required)

• Select the device and click upgrade (all)

• In WAST, double click the device and go to verify and calibrate

• Select NIBP sensor and click Begin

• Click Initialize NIBP board and confirm

• Follow instructions on screen to perform:

– the Power Calibration Test – Primary/Safety

– the Pressure Calibration – Primary/Safety

Functional verification

• Perform the Basic functional verification using the Welch Allyn Service Tool (WAST) Standard Edition • As periodic preventive maintenance perform the Basic Functional

Checks as defined in the service manual.

• Perform the complete functional verification using the Welch Allyn Service Tool (WAST) with the Gold license: – If the device has been dropped – If there is doubt about it’s functioning – If the device has been opened – If parts have been replaced

• Electrical safety test is not required on the CSM device itself due to the power supply is in the power cord assy. However if you use the APM with your device you should perform EST. The APM is not repairable only replaced but annual check should be done.

• After logging in, the tool allows to create new, edit and download existing config files
