A Pesach Message From Our President…

At this time, every year the same questions are asked at every Passover Seder throughout the world…” why is this night different from all other nights?” It will be answered similarly with the family Seder, the reading of the Haggadah, and the significance of this holiday. The questions and answers should remain the same throughout the centuries… Passover is our continuous rededication to the concept of freedom, which we celebrate in a personal and religious nature…. This holiday should allow us to reflect on the many wonderful things which we have to be thankful for in our lives…Being able to come together with our immediate and our extended families at the Seder table, is something we shouldn’t take for granted…We need to remember the hardships our ancestors endured, during their stay and exodus from Egypt. While we enjoy the traditional songs and meals of the holidays, lest not we forget the price for freedom which we continue to enjoy. It is even more important this year, due to the concerns for our safety and the changes in the political climate nationally and internationally. We should always remember our bonds rather than our minor differences. We should be thankful for being able to spend time with our families and remember those who have departed, but will always live on in our memories and stories. We take for granted so much, and need to contemplate all the riches we have and can pass on to future generations. We need to take time to tell those we love and care about, how much they mean to us while we are still able. On behalf of the board of trustees and myself, I wish you and your family good health and happiness during the holiday season.

Passover celebrates the spiritual renewal of the meaning of freedom.

Holidays are so much more than mere tradition; they are cosmic signposts alerting us to unique spiritual frequencies that appear for a limited time. Yes, the actual historic events, the holidays, did happen, but we are not celebrating the event. We are connecting to create the actual

energy that made the event happen in the first place. Accessing these unique frequencies increases our desire to break through our self-imposed fears and limitations. Join us as we celebrate!

Wednesday-Thursday, April 11-12 Yom HaShoah (Holocaust Remembrance Day)

known colloquially in ,("Holocaust and Heroism Remembrance Day" ;יום הזיכרון לשואה ולגבורה) Israel and abroad as Yom HaShoah, is observed as Israel's day of commemoration for the six million Jews who perished in the Holocaust. It is held on the 27 Nisan (April/May). Yom HaShoah was inaugurated in 1951, anchored in a law signed by the Prime Minister of Israel David Ben-Gurion and the President of Israel Yitzhak Ben-Zvi.

Wednesday, April 18, Yom HaZikaron (Israel Day of Remembrance)

(Hebrew: יום הזכרון לחללי מערכות ישראל ולנפגעי פעולות האיבה, lit. Israeli Fallen Soldiers and Victims of Terrorism Remembrance Day) is Israel's official Memorial Day. In 2009, Israel honored the memory of 22,570 soldiers killed in the line of duty and 1,723 civilian terror victims. Yom Hazikron is the day on which Israel honors its war veterans and others who died in the Arab-Israeli conflict.

(Hebrew: תצמאועה is the national independence day of Israel, commemorating its declaration of (יום independence in 1948. Celebrated annually on 5th of the Jewish month of Iyar, it centers around the declaration of the state of Israel by David Ben Gurion in Tel Aviv on May 14, 1948 (5 Iyar, 5708), and the end of the British Mandate of Palestine.

Yiskor Plaque ~~ If you want a plaque placed on our Yiskor board showing the name of a beloved one, the charge is $400. The name of your loved one will be announced on the Shabbat closest to the anniversary of their demise. We will order the plaque when it is paid for. Call the office to order. ~~

Movie Night Join us for Movie Night at BTM for great movies and fellowship! Watch your email and listen for announcements at the Synagogue!

Classes Along with our regular weekly Tuesday Evening Hebrew Classes, Rabbi Silberberg teaches a Torah class with times to be announced…hope to see you there!

Reminder: Kay Schwarzberg teaches Torah each Shabbat morning at 10:30.

It states in the Hagaddah “Whoever is hungry, come eat, whoever is needy, come celebrate

Passover”. If you would like to help a needy family celebrate Passover, for $18.00 Yad Ezra (Helping Hand) will do so for you. Yad Ezra is the only kosher food pantry in Michigan. You can call

As an incentive to donate to such an important charity that acts as a safety net for so many, there is a special Michigan tax law allowing eligibility for a 50% tax credit on gifts of $400 (per couple) and $200 (per single person) for donations to food pantries such as Yad Ezra.

Our BTM Sisterhood is a working arm of our community. We would like to invite any

member or non-member to our meetings on the 2nd Tuesday of each month at the Synagogue. Dues are $25 per year. PASSOVER RECIPES: FISH CASSEROLE 1 MEDIUM ONION, SLICED THIN ¼ CUP MARGARINE OR BUTTER 4 MATZOS, FINELY BROKEN OR 2 ½ CUPS MATZAH FARFEL 2 POUNDS OF FISH FILLETS, CUT INTO BITE SIZED PIECES 1 CUP DICED CARROTS 1 CUP DICED CELERY 1 /2 CUP LIQUID FROM COOKED VEGETABLES 1 CAN TOMATO AND MUSHROOM SAUCE ½ TSP SALT DASH OF PEPPER

1. SAUTÉ ONION IN MARGARINE UNTIL TENDER, BUT NOT BROWN. 2. ARRANGE MATZAH (FARFEL), FISH, ONIONS, AND VEGETABLES IN ALTERNATE LAYERS IN A

GREASED 2 ½ QUART BAKING DISH. 3. COMBINE TOMATO AND MUSHROOMS SAUCE WITH VEGETABLE LIQUID AND SEASONING AND

POUR OVER TOP OF FISH MIXTURE. 4. BAKE IN HOT (425 DEGREE) OVEN FOR 15-20 MINUTES UNTIL FISH FLAKES EASILY.

PINEAPPLE SQUARES 6 EGGS 2 MANISCHEWITZ MATZOS, BROKEN INTO APPROX. ½ INCH PIECES ¼ TSP SALT 4 TBS. MELTED MARGARINE ½ CUP SUGAR 1 CAN CRUSHED PINEAPPLE, DRAINED (16 OZ. SIZE)

1. PREHEAT OVEN TO 350 DEGREES 2. IN LARGE BOWL BEAT EGGS; ADD MATZOS, SALT, MARGARINE, SUGAR, AND DRAINED PINEAPPLE.

MIX WELL. 3. POUR IN WELL GREASED 8”X8”X2” BAKING PAN 4. BAKE AT 350 DEGREES FOR 40-45 MINUTES, OR UNTIL FIRM. 5. CUT INTO APPROXIMATELY 2 ½ INCH SQUARES AND SERVE.
