This is a thoughtful and reflexive
REP that well documents the
considerable changes this
programme has undertaken in
recent years, and in the last 12
months, and the challenges it
continues to face. The REP also
well documents a story of success
in module performance and
retention – both critical issues for a
widening access and
participation initiative like level 0.
The programme leader’s data
and analysis is excellent, and
offers substantial evidence of the
academic success of the
programme, and the staff team.
The action plan for next year is
modest, but entirely appropriate:
SQSC School of Arts and Digital Industries 12th
Dec 2012, 9.30am, Room EB.1.39 7 | P a g e
in this context, consolidation and
refinement are definitely the key
priorities for a programme that has
faced too much substantive
change in recent years.

– further work (outside REP) is
needed to stabilise these
programmes – informed by the
REP agenda and other
management interventions.

This is a belt and braces REP for a field
that is facing significant difficulties. The
action plan for the forthcoming academic
year is substantial, detailed, and takes a
robust approach to core areas of the
field’s business. The planning of
deadlines and key stages for action
points is impressively robust. Given the
absence of a REP for the previous year,
and absence of minutes for field
meetings, the action plan shows
significant insight and positive
engagement, and hopefully signals a
turning point for the field. Some of the
areas listed above are not covered in the
REP, but will be provided by programme
leaders. This REP document is clearly
partial, and is unable to reflect on an
ongoing process of review and planning,
but nevertheless has the effect of
demonstrating an impressive assessment
of the field’s key challenges.

course that is moving form
strength to strength. With resource
investment I believe this course
could grow to become a top
recruiter at UEL.

The report provides a good
overview of how the programme is
settling down and starting to build
steam after the University
restructure. Detailed analysis of
statistical data is a little light and I
would like to see this looked at
more closely in future reports as
the course moves over purely to
ADI recruited students.

A very detailed report that
highlights the improvements
starting to be realised from the
recent re-validation of the
programmes. I look forward to
tracking further progress and
development next year as the full
range of benefits from eth re-
validation are realised.
The report also notes the
impressive industry links the team
utilise to fully engage with the
Universities Employability focus, I
would like to commend the team
for this focus and commitment to
helping the students build some
useful links and a realistic insight
into working in industry.

A very through report in terms of
the academic content, stats etc.
However little emphasis is placed
on the technical and physical
resource (MPC?) used to support
this programme. This may because
these items are not an issue?

A well written report that highlights
a strong programme with a sound
learning and teaching strategy
and a team focused on the
student experience. This reports
highlights that with a culture of
open communication with the
student body and a focus on
continuous development and
adoption of best practice, a
programme can still succeed
despite the current plight of the HE
sector.

This is a succinct and pithy REP
that directly addresses key future
challenges in a robust, but
thoughtful, way. The issues of NSS,
accreditation and revalidation are
all addressed in a timely, realistic,
and substantial manner. The
report on last year’s action plan is
candid and respectful of the
climate. And next year’s action
plan is detailed and appropriately
broad in its scope and urgency.

A number of issues relating to NSS
scores and student experience,
noted from student feedback,
have been clearly identified in
Action Plan and will be addressed
through process of developing
and re-validating the programme.
However, it should be noted that
some of these are institutional or
School-based rather than
programme-related (e.g.
timetabling), and therefore are

not within the remit of the
