The Third Sunday of Advent is also known by its old tittle, Gaudete Sunday (Latin for ‘Rejoice”). The readings today have a particularly festive ring to them. Even John the Baptist, in the gospel, is fairly positive. More than the fact that this is the final full week of Advent, our joy is based on our hope in Jesus. Today we conclude the first part of Advent, with its emphasis on Christ’s second coming. Tomorrow, the readings will change to prepare us for the commemoration of his birth. Our hope is strengthened by both events. His first coming gave us the opportunity for eternal life. The second coming will bring that opportunity to fulfillment. Rejoice!

El tercer domingo de Adviento también es conocido por su viejo titulo, domingo de Gaudete (Latín para "Alégrate"). Las lecturas de hoy tienen un sonido particularmente festivo para ellos. Incluso Juan el Bautista, en el evangelio, es bastante positivo. Más que el hecho de que esta es la última semana completa de Adviento, nuestra alegría se basa en nuestra esperanza en Jesús. Hoy concluimos la primera parte de Adviento, con énfasis en la segunda venida de Cristo. Mañana, las lecturas cambiarán para prepararnos para la conmemoración de su nacimiento. Nuestra esperanza es fortalecida por ambos eventos. Su primera venida nos dio la oportunidad de la vida eterna. La segunda venida traerá esa oportunidad al cumplimiento. ¡Alégrense!

New Year Bible Study

The conflicts of the early Christians in Corinth are in many ways similar to our struggles today as Christians. They, too, witnessed division, scan-dal, immorality, persecution and other trials. In response, St. Paul taught the Corinthians about the Church as the Body of Christ, introducing them to the most powerful gift of all: the Eucharist. Join us for the Study of First Corinthians: The Church and the Christian Community. We meet in the small conference room across from the office beginning January 8 at 7:00 pm and every Tuesday ~ last class on March 5. You’re invited to Las Posadas at

Our Lady of the Valley!

Las posadas is a Mexican and Guatemalan tradition

where people come together to commemorate Mary

and Joseph’s long journey from Nazareth to

Bethlehem in search of a safe place to give birth to

Jesus. Las Posadas go on for nine days, representing

the nine months Mary carried Jesus in her womb. A

procession will take place at the Posadas asking form “lodging” but each time the Holy

Family isn’t accepted. Finally, they are permitted and

prayer and songs are sung, festive foods are shared, and

the night ends with a piñata in the shape of a star. OLV

is offering five posadas this year, Dec. 16, 19, 20, & 22

all starting at 7 pm except Dec. 22 which starts at 8 pm.

Teens will host the Posada on Dec. 16 @7 pm

¡Están invitados a las posadas de

Nuestra Señora de la Valle!

Las posadas es una tradición Mejicana y Guatemala

para recordar la camino difícil de Maria y Jose

desde Nazaret a Belén en búsqueda de un lugar

seguro para dar luz a Jesus. Las Posadas se celebran

nueve días, representando los nueve meses de

embrazo de Maria. Habrá una procesión donde la

Familia Sagrada piden hospedaje, pero no los reci-

ben. De pronto, encuentran donde si los aceptaran, la gente canta y comparten comida

festivas, y la noche termina con una piñata en la forma de

un Estrella.. NSV ofrece cinco posadas esta año: 16,

19, 20, y 22 de diciembre, todos empezando a las 7 pm

excepto el 22 de diciembre que inicia a las 8 pm.

Los jóvenes van a dirigir la posada el 16 de diciembre,

7 pm
