ChittorgarhRajasthan's eternal Grandeur and Royale find themselves deeply embedded into each moment one spends in the princely ruins of Chittogarh. The Chittor Fort through its majestic precincts speaks proudly of the three wars it has stood witness to. Heroic tales of men and women both, glorify this 71 mile distant city from Udaipur. The Udaipur visit would be incomplete unless one breathes the mystical Chittorgarh airs.

Kumbhalgarh Cradled in the cluster of 13 mountain peaks of the Aravali Ranges stands this formidable medieval citadel. Rising 1914 mtrs high from the sea level, the Fort was built in the 15th century AD by Maharana Kumbha (1914 - 63 AD) and is the principal fortification after Chittorgarh, 90 kms Northwest of Udaipur. The massive Fort, encompassed by a 36 kms long wall, (which after the Great Wall of Chine claims to be seen front the moon!) has 7 majestic gates and 7 ramparts, one within the other. rounded bastion and soaring walls tower loom over the crenelated walls of the fort making it totally impregnable.

Nathdwara Shri Nathdwara (a pathway to Lord Shri Krishna) literally means the gateway to the Lord ShriNathji. This great Vaishnavite shrine was built in the 17th century on spot exactly identified by the Lord himself. The legends have it that the idol of the Lord Krishna was being transferred to safer place from Vrindaban to protect it from the destructive wrath of the Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb. When the idol reached this spot, the wheels of bullock cart it was traveling in, sank axle deep in mud and refused to move further, at all. The accompanying priest realized that this was Lord's chosen spot and the Lord did not want to travel any further. Accordingly a Temple was built here. This is a temple and place of pilgrimage amongst its believers and a petty distance of 52 kms from Udaipur through the scenic mountain valleys makes it a ll the more a mandatory visit.

Jaisamand At a sheer distance of 48 kms from Udaipur, built by Maharana Jai Singh in 1685 amongst the hills breathes the magnificent beauty of the second largest artificial lake in Asia. The lake's inauguration was celebrated by the king in the form of gold charities equal to his own weight. Also known as Dhebar, the lake takes to its credit every reason to become a part of a tourist's itinerary. Three beautiful islands, marble cenotaphs on the embankments, a summer palace of Udaipur Queens make the perfect backdrop to the Jaisamand Lake.
