Celebrating virtually or with members of your own household pose low risk for spreading COVID-19. In-person gatherings pose varying levels of risk. There are several factors that contribute to the risk of getting infected or infecting others with the virus that causes COVID-19 at a holiday celebration. In combination, these factors will create various amounts of risk, so it is important to

consider them individually and together:

Community levels of COVID-19 Higher levels of COVID-19 cases and community spread in the gathering location, as well as where attendees are coming from, increase the risk of infection and spread among attendees. Family and friends should consider the number and rate of COVID-19 cases in their community and in the community where they plan to celebrate when considering whether to host or attend a holiday celebration. Information on the number of cases in an area can be found on the area’s health department website.

The location of the gathering Indoor gatherings generally pose more risk than outdoor gatherings. Indoor gatherings with poor ventilation pose more risk than those with good ventilation, such as those with open windows or doors.

The duration of the gathering Gatherings that last longer pose more risk than shorter gatherings.

The number of people at the gathering Gatherings with more people pose more risk than gatherings with fewer people. CDC does not have a limit or recommend a

specific number of attendees for gatherings. The size of a holiday gathering should be determined based on the ability to reduce or limit contact between attendees, the risk of spread between attendees, and state, local, territorial, or tribal health and safety laws, rules, and regulations.

The locations attendees are traveling from Gatherings with attendees who are traveling

from different places pose a higher risk than gatherings with attendees who live in the

same area. Higher levels of COVID-19 cases and community spread in the gathering location, or where attendees are coming from, increase the risk of infection and spread among attendees.

The behaviors of attendees prior to the gathering Gatherings with attendees who are

not adhering to social distancing (staying at least 6 feet apart), mask wearing, hand washing, and other

prevention behaviors pose more risk than gatherings with attendees who are engaging in these preventative behaviors.

The behaviors of attendees during the gathering Gatherings with more preventive measures, such as mask wearing, social distancing, and hand washing, in place pose less risk than gatherings where fewer or no preventive measures are being implemented.

Melt Candiquik in tray according to directions on package. Place a large piece of wax or parchment paper on a flat surface. Dip strawberries in melted Candiquik Coating, remove and allow the excess coating to pour off onto the wax paper to form the "tail" of the ghost; slide the strawberry back and set on wax paper to dry. Before coating has set, place two mini chocolate chips on as the eyes. For the mouth, cut off the tip of a mini chocolate chip and place on the strawberry with the bottom side facing up. ~ Source: blog.candiquik.com

If you can’t find pumpkin ice cream where you live, you can make your own! Let a 2-quart container of vanilla ice cream soften at room temperature for 15 minutes or so. Dump the ice cream into a large bowl. Then stir a 15-ounce can of pumpkin pie filling mix into the ice cream and place back in the ice cream container. (It will magically fit back in the ice cream carton because by stirring the ice cream, you remove some of the air.) Freeze again, so it’s ready for floats when you are. ~ Source: www.goodhousekeeping.com

1. Change the story. When we worry, we focus on the worst-case scenario. Choose a realistic story instead. Rehearse it. Share it.

2. Find the other track.People often think of life as seasons. During difficult times, we wait for the season to end. Instead, look at life as two set of tracks, the good and the bad running side by side. Look toward the good to find a reason to be hopeful.

3. Establish a support system. We often feel as if we're going through everything by ourselves. In reality, you are not alone; there are others who have experienced similar situations. They can provide invaluable support.

4. Do for others.Find ways to give back. When we worry, we become self-centered. But you find optimism in collaboration, not in isolation.

5. Rely on your spiritual resources.Difficulties do not happen to you, they happened for you. There is higher purpose and meaning in our struggles. When we seek it, life can appear differently.

How Mindfulness Can Improve Your LifeMindfulness is the process of actively noticing aspects about yourself and your environment, and choose to put yourself in the present.

Yoga, meditation and walking are ways of developing mindfulness. They allow

you to slow down and engage. Watch what is happening outside. Really look at a piece of art. Make it a habit to be present with your surroundings.

Incorporate breathing exercises. When we're aware of our breathing,

we are more attentive to our bodies.

Create a visual prompt as a cue to have mindful moments in your day. When you think of the prompt--the color red, for example--you will remember to reflect.

Program your phone of fitness tracker to send reminders. Take a minute to focus when alerted. Notice what is going on with you and your environment.

Take 120 seconds. Don't grab your phone when you wake up. Instead take two minutes to be with yourself. Then start your day.

There is no right or wrong way to practice mindfulness. Being aware and focused on oneself for even a brief moment offers many benefits.
