OVERVIEW

Assessing and treating patients with delirium presents unique challenges for healthcare professionals. Delirium can contribute to patient complica-tions including increased hospital length of stay, short and long term functional decline, and decreased quality of life. Research and expe-rience has demonstrated that both the rehabilitation and medical teams are poised to provide preventive and skilled intervention to reduce both the occurrence of delirium and its negative long term outcomes. This introductory level course will provide professionals with the knowledge needed to properly evaluate and treat patients with delirium. Course par-ticipants will also gain insight into the role of the interprofessional team

when managing the patient with delirium, and when it is appropriate to refer a patient to another care provid-er. Content will be presented via di-dactic lectures, panel discussion, case presentations and Q&A sessions.

This activity is targeted to nurses, physical therapists, physical therapist assistants, occupational therapists, oc-cupational therapist assistants, speech language pathologists, psychologists*, and physicians*.
