THE DUNES COURSE

• Designed by former US Masters champion and Ryder Cup Captain Bernhard Langer in association with European Golf Design

• The par-72 seaside Dunes Course ventures into olive groves and along a small river, whilst links-style features add to its unique playability.

• Golfers of all levels can benefit from multi-lingual coaching with experienced Head PGA Professional who will also help beginners take their first steps.

• It plays a little shorter than the Dunes Course at 5,760metres from the back tees. The par 71 course places a slightly greater emphasis on strategic play and positional golf.

• The Seaside, Canyon, and Grove holes will provide striking contrasts that create a dramatic and memorable golf round. The course will play to a par of 71 from a variety of lengths designed to test the golfing skills of amateurs and pros alike.

• The imaginative layout offers panoramic seaside and mountain views, including several holes that play directly along the sea and two directly overlooking the historic bay of Navarino.

At Costa Navarino guests are encouraged to discover the beauty, history and culture of Messinia by engaging in authentic cultural experiences that enable them to become part of an age-long heritage spanning the millennia. There is a wide variety of intriguing activities to choose from, such as:

• Olive harvesting

Experience one of Messinia’s most enduring agricultural traditions

as you participate in each step of the olive’s journey from tree to

table. After harvesting a quantity of olives the age-old way, you will

be visiting a nearby mill where you will help make the oil. This is

followed by a tutored tasting session at which you will learn to

discern the subtle flavors of the region’s renowned extra virgin olive

oil, accompanied by a traditional meal that will include kayiana and

kapsales, based on homemade ingredients.

AUTHENTIC VILLAGE COOKING

• Authentic village cooking

Discover traditional Messinian cooking with the help of local women who

will share authentic family recipes. You will learn how to prepare a typical full

Messinian menu, using regional techniques and fresh ingredients, followed by

lunch and the opportunity to savor the food prepared.

• The ancient art of mosaic

Take a crash course in the ancient art of mosaic and learn the main

construction technique. You will then be given the opportunity to make your

own replicas of original motifs discovered at archaeological sites in Messinia.

• The magic of shadows

As the sun goes down over Costa Navarino, prepare yourself for the

enchanting world of Karagiozis shadow theater. A popular form of

entertainment throughout Greece, the fascinating puppet characters have

delighted Messinian families for generations. Different tales relating to

Messinian History such as ’Karagiozis at the Battle of Navarino’ and

Karagiozis invited to Koutroulis’ Wedding’ will be presented during the 40-

minute performance.

THE COSTA NAVARINO WINE EXPERIENCE

• Tales from Messinia & around the world

Discover the timeless allure of storytelling, one of the oldest means through

which cultures have passed down values and traditions. Each session features

4 tales, two from around the world and two that are locally told. Music and

songs will be performed in between the stories, two of which will be narrated

in English and two in Greek.

• The Costa Navarino wine experience

Learn about Greek and local wines from the experts and assess the

characteristics of certain Messinian varieties. Tasting sessions are held at

Enoteca, accompanied by savory snacks. The wine experience is further

enhanced by a tour of Navarino Vineyards at nearby Mouzaki, and if you are

visiting between mid-August and mid-September, you will also have the

opportunity to observe or even participate in traditional viticultural activities

such as treading the grapes.

• Explore Messinia through literature

Join us in the exploration of the Messinia through literature and recharge your

knowledge and mind. Presentation of publications relating to Messinia,

literary readings, plus events featuring the works of distinguished local poets.

SONGS AROUND THE TABLE

• Songs around the table

Various social events bring Messinians together to eat, drink and sing. One

such occasion is the preparation of food. Join a group of local women, seated

around a large wooden table, as they make traditional delicacies and sing

regional folk songs a cappella. Take part in the preparation and savor the

freshly made treats. Organized by the Educational and Cultural Association of

Glyfada, a picturesque village with 200 inhabitants, northeast of Pylos.

• Learn to bake homemade bread

The secrets of traditional Messinian baking revealed by the experts, local

women who will show you how to make delicious breads such as the

elaborately adorned kentimeni pita. The following day, these baked breads

will be served in the breakfast area for you to try. Brought to you by the

Educational Women's Association of Gargaliani, a small town nestled on a

verdant hillside with a view that has earned it the title ‘The Balcony of

Messinia’.

• Philosophy Walks Led by classical scholars, these walks offer a unique opportunity to discuss important modern-day issues through the prism of ancient Greek philosophical thinking and find answers to contemporary problems by drawing on the wisdom of the past.

• Art Tours A 90-minute guided tour of the art collections gives guests the opportunity to gain an appreciation of artworks and artifacts of the 17th-19th centuries, especially from the wider area of Messinia, including maps, engravings, rare books and weapons from the Greek War of Independence. The tour also introduces visitors to more contemporary pieces, many of which were inspired by local nature and the projects undertaken at Costa Navarino to preserve the important natural habitats of the region and maintain biodiversity.
