TRANSCRIPT
As we break for half term, it amazes me how quickly we have reached the mid point of the year. It doesn’t seem any time at
all since we were welcoming children in September. It is true what they say - ‘time flies when you are having fun’!
This week has been extremely busy once again. I wasn’t in school on Tuesday, but I understand that the RJ assembly was
delayed owing to traffic problems that morning. However, once it was underway the audience was treated to a wonderful
assembly following Reception’s recent visit to ‘Scrap’ workshop in Leeds. The children showed everyone how to construct
things from reclaimed items and also treated them to a fantastic musical recital with their home made instruments! Well
done RJ—I loved the photos! The 2S assembly on Thursday was a journey through time on the theme of transport. Prof
‘Know It All’, invented a time machine and the children took us back to the time of the Mongolfier Brothers, Louis Bleriot,
Amy Johnson, the Wright brothers, George Stephenson and Amelia Earhart. All of these historical figures were appearing on
the ‘Two Show’ with Chris Evans and Alex Jones—fabulous 2S! Thank you to Mrs Johnson, Mrs Franey and Mrs Spencer for
putting these two lovely assemblies together.
Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 have thoroughly enjoyed their dance sessions this week which we bought courtesy of the
Sainsbury’s Voucher Scheme. There are some photos further in the newsletter but they will all be posted on our Facebook
page very soon—please look out for them! Thanks Mrs Hicks for organising these for us. Please bring any vouchers into
school (box by the reception desk) so we can keep them going in the coming years—thank you.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff at Clifton, our parent volunteer sports coaches and other outside
coaches and teachers, for providing such a breadth of opportunities for the children in our co-curricular programme. We are
now looking at the activities for the Summer Term and you will shortly receive the programme to discuss the choices with
your children. On the same note, I would like to thank Mrs Jo Deri-Clark for her wonderful organisation of our After School
Care facility. I know that she spends many hours researching ideas to keep the children motivated during the time they
spend there after school and, I also know, just how much the children enjoy it!
When we return to school after half term, we have a busy week. The Parent Forums are on Tuesday, 24th February at
7.30 pm and Wednesday, 25th February at 2.00 pm—both held in the Rayson Room. Please sign up at the reception desk in
order for us to cater for refreshments. We also have Taster Days for our applicants in September, our Air Ambulance
Fundraising Day and the CSF Quiz Night on Friday, 27th and also our Open Morning on Saturday, 28th from 10.30 am—12.00
noon. I would be grateful if you could share this information with your friends and family, It would be good to welcome any
interested parties to the school.
I hope that most of you now enjoy and share all the wonderful photographs of the children on our Facebook and Twitter
accounts. Please use the links at the top of the page and, for Facebook - just ‘like’ us!
Wishing you all a wonderful half term break—whether you are travelling or staying at home, have a lovely time.
Best wishes,
CoMPasS

It has been a busy half term for Green Team. As the weather turns slightly warmer and brighter, our attention has been focused on outside. We saw that our vegetable patches by the dining hall have been getting rather trampled, so we made signs to ask children not to pick or step on our plants whilst waiting for dinner. We have been raking, weeding and tidying this week in the sunshine; maybe spring is finally on its way! We have sown spinach and garlic along with chives, parsley and thyme into seed trays. Fingers crossed that all these exciting things will soon start to grow! Please follow our activities on twitter: @GreenTeamClub
A massive thank you to Farmer Hudson
for an exciting visit to school with his
tractor! Mr Hudson (Harriet’s Dad)
thrilled RS by letting each child sit in
the driver’s seat and beep the horn!
Mr Hudson told us about the cleats on the
wheels, the power of the tractor and how and
when it is used.
Mr Hudson then presented a very interesting presentation
about growing crops, showing us images of the changes that
occur and when and how the crops are cut. He brought
samples of various crops that he grows on his farm and
showed us how to test for moisture in the crop. Finally we
looked at a mini combine harvester and the mechanisms of
how it works. Again many thanks to Farmer Hudson for a
very enjoyable afternoon!
2S had great fun
performing their
assembly this week. The
children all worked very
hard learning their lines
and delivered them
beautifully. We were so
pleased that Professor
Know-It-All decided to
be a bit more modest in
the end!
Reception to Year 2 have had a great time this week perfecting their dance moves in
their Sainsbury’s Dance Day sessions with Miss Jenny. Thank you to everyone that
contributed Active Kids vouchers last year to make these sessions possible.
The 2015 scheme is now up and running and a collection box can be found by the front
entrance for all your vouchers so enjoy shopping as the children enjoy dancing!
Year 2 are
enjoying building
with our new
Technic Lego!
This week 1G have been on a lion hunt! We’ve been to catch a BIG ONE! We weren’t scared! Should Alfred go into the dark cave or not? One side of the conscience corridor tried to persuade Alfred that it would be a good idea to go in and the opposite side tried to convince him to go home. We had some great points of view but in the end Alfred decided NOT to go into the cave and go home instead. Wise choice!

have been carrying out an investigation – how to clean dirty water! This is us doing our filtration experiment.
started to learn about the importance of their 5 senses this week, focusing on smell and touch. They
were very brave and stuck their hands in mysterious boxes to describe the contents; thankfully nothing bit their
hand off! Miss Beadle had also filled mysterious pots full of smelly contents which ranged from nice toothpaste to
nasty onion!
This week Nursery have had a 'Dough Disco!' We each had a piece of dough and did a series of finger and hand exercises to music. We had to "squish it, squash it, roll it, pull it". This is an activity that helps us develop our fine motor skills ready to write. Our fingers really enjoyed dancing to Pharrell Williams, it certainly made us 'Happy!'
What a busy, creative and messy week in 3L!
First of all we were sculptors making canopic
jars out of cardboard rolls and clay! Once they
had dried we painted them mixing the primary
colours to create all sorts of godly effects! We
then explored the River Nile and sampled a
selection of fruits and vegetables that the
Ancient Egyptians would have grown! We
planned an investigation to see how the
Egyptians got clean water. 3L was full of
professors using a variety of sieves to filter
mud, sand, bark and leaves from a sample of
Nile water that Mrs Loftus bravely collected on
her lunch break!

It has been another very busy week in 2H! We have been
writing accounts of our visit to the Transport Museum last
week, experimenting with marking each other’s writing and
acting out the painting that we have been studying in
drama. In our writing, we have tried to think about what
each character might be thinking and write in the first
person. Here are the results of some of our drama work!
Over the last few weeks in RJ we have been investigating our similarities and differences. We looked at the work of Picasso and how he painted portraits with a difference. We started by matching our skin colour to a paint chart to get a base colour for our portraits then used photographs and cut out our features to make our own portraits with a difference. Can you tell who we are?

3T have been finding out about the gods and goddesses of Ancient Egypt this week. We have carried out some super research on the internet using the iPads and have all produced a class book of writing and drawings of the different
gods. We then went on to work in pairs to produce short movies about the gods. Our movies have images, voice-overs, backing tracks and even sound effects! They have been uploaded onto the school website and you can view them here!
