Students with a passion for performing arts have the opportunity to audition for the Company Bright Program. Company Bright develops in-depth knowledge and practical skills in the performing arts through rigorous tailored programs that value curiosity, creativity, collaboration and critical thinking. As students graduate from the Company Bright Program and move into Stage 1 and 2 Drama they will have increasing opportunities to develop their collaborative skills through varied production company models.

With outstanding performance opportunities utilising the

Brighton Performing Arts Centre’s state-of-the-art technology, alongside

mentoring by industry experts, our students develop exceptional

skills in both production and performance.

Company Bright Program

CurriculumStudents enrolled in Company Bright enter a full year of specialised production and performance classes from years 8-10 aligned with the Australian Curriculum. Pedagogical approaches include inquiry based and student centred learning with a focus on learner voice.

StructureYear 8 Skills in stagecraft will be emphasised through improvisation and creative performance building tasks. Underpinning the year 8 program is the inquiry question: ‘What matters to you? What tools can actors and designers use to communicate their ideas?’. Students work in small groups as production companies towards a public performance. By the end of year 8 students will choose an area of focus either in onstage or offstage roles developing a deep knowledge of their chosen role.

Year 9 ‘What makes good storytelling?’ Students explore this inquiry question through theatre and film and present their work in numerous ways including public performance opportunities. Collaborative learning is further developed through exploration and experimentation within their chosen area supported by workshops with industry experts.

Year 10 Performance opportunities are more sophisticated and challenging. Students will work with a design mentor and a writing mentor (Stephen Sewell, NIDA) to devise new works constructed from an inquiry process facilitated by and supported through teaching staff and the mentor program.

Student commitmentIt is expected that all successful students in the Company Bright Program will:• intend to study drama to SACE Stage 2 (year 12)• attend all rehearsals and performances as required

(during lunch, after school or on the weekend)• give priority to Company Bright activities where a conflict with

outside activities occurs.
