SUMMER PROGRAMS FOR YOUTH - SLO CAMPUSJoin us this Summer in celebration of 30 yearsproviding the children in san luis obispo countyoutstanding opportunities to learn & grow!The program is for students entering the 5th-9th grades inthe Fall of 2017. The curriculum is designed to meet theneeds of younger students eager to explore subjects in a funand educational environment.

• Students ARE NOT SUPERVISED on campus between classes• Classes are not remedial in nature. Students with special needs must contact the Community

Programs Coordinator before registering for classes at 546-3132• Classes are scheduled for 50 minutes in an hour block to allow 10 minutes travel time to the next class• Since rooms are scheduled throughout the campus, please check schedule for room locations. Your

students may have a bit of a distance to travel between classes. Additionally, bicycles, skateboards, in-line skates, scooters, and any other human powered mechanical transportation devices are not allowed on campus in accordance with Section 2113 of the State of California Vehicle Code and the policies and regulations of Cuesta College.

You will enjoy tunes to help keep you mo-tivated to move.Aqua Kinetics Participants are led through a se-ries of exercises designed to increase range ofmotion and flexibility. Moderate aerobic exercisesare added to our Higher Intensity class to increasecardiovascular fitness. A great class for adults ofany age, including people recovering from injuriesand/or arthritic conditions who are capable of par-ticipating in a fitness program without assistance.Aqua Pilates Yoga An introduction to core-cen-tered poses and positions that help with posture,alignment and balance.

A Q U A T I C S

Baby & Me Parent/guardian accompanies child inthe water and receives feedback and guidancefrom an instructor. Class emphasis is on fun andsafety. Children ages 6 months to 4 years developwater entry, bubble blowing, front kicking, backfloating, underwater exploration and more. Classratio is 1:10.

Tiny Tot Class for children ages 3 to 4 years of ageat any swimming level. Class is tailored to theneeds of younger swimmers; children should bewilling to participate in a group setting without par-ent/guardian. Fun and safety are emphasized whilechildren are learning swimming skills. Time will bespent working on floating, kicking, arm and handmovements, and water safety. Class ratio is 1:4.

Level 1 Introduction to Water Skills Must be atleast 4 years old to enroll or 3 years old with suc-cessful completion of TINY TOTS. Class is designedfor the swimmer who needs help feeling comfort-able in the water. Class time is spent on submerg-ing, floating, kicking, opening eyes and exhalingunderwater, arm and hand movements, and watersafety. Class ratio is 1:4.

Level 2 Fundamental Aquatic Skills Must be atleast 5 years old to enroll-NO EXCEPTIONS. Classis designed to give the student success with funda-mental skills. Students learn to dive from side,treading water, turning over while floating, swim onfront, back and side, and water safety. Class will beheld in large pool and students should feel com-fortable in deep water. Class ratio is 1:6.

Level 3 Stroke Development Students shouldfeel comfortable in deep water and the large pool.Concentration is on building confidence and thedevelopment and refinement of the front and backcrawl using rotary breathing. Students will be introduced to butterfly stroke, deep water entry,and a reaching assist along with new safety skills.Prerequisite is a Level 2 card or equivalent skills.Class ratio is 1:6.

Level 4 Stroke Improvement Students must becomfortable in deep water and be able to swim thelength of the large pool demonstrating front crawlwith side breathing. Emphasis is placed on the refinement and endurance of skills learned in pre-vious levels. Students will learn the breaststroke,elementary backstroke, and sidestroke kick. Stu-dents should be prepared to swim several lengthsof the pool at each class meeting. Prerequisite is aLevel 3 card or equivalent skills. Class ratio is 1:8.

Level 5 Stroke Refinement Concentration isplaced on the coordination, refinement and en-durance of previously learned strokes. In addition,various dives are introduced along with additionalsafety skills such as rescue breathing and survivalswimming. Students in this class must be able toswim at least two continuous lengths of the pooland be prepared to swim several lengths of thepool each class meeting. Prerequisite is a Level 4card or equivalent skills. Class ratio is 1:8.

Level 6 Swimming and Skill ProficiencyPrimary objective is the refinement of all strokes sostudents swim them with ease, efficiency, powerand smoothness over greater distances. Personalwater safety, lifeguard readiness, fundamentals ofdiving and fitness swimmer are other areas covered.Student may swim up to 20 lengths of the pool inone class meeting. Prerequisite is a Level 5 or 6card or equivalent skills. Class ratio is 1:8.

Private & Semi-Private Swimming LessonsGive your child or yourself the opportunity to learnnew skills and/or refine current skills with somespecial attention. Try a semi-private or private les-son. The instructor to student ratio is 1:1 for privatelessons and 1:2 or 1:3 for semi-private lessons.Semi-private lesson participants must be at similarlevels and register as a group. These one-weeklessons are available only as staffing permits andwill be determined by the Aquatics Lead. Theselessons are 4 days only.

They will be assessed and we will advise which level is best to enroll in. Registration accepted at the pool deck on the day of the placement test. Classes fill quickly so take placement testing early. Checks and credit cards (Visa, MasterCard and Discover) only. No cash accepted on placement testing day. NOTE: Open swim is not allowed before orafter the placement testing. Please prepare your child by letting them know before test. Thank you.

SWIM CLASS REGISTRATION: Registration for each session closes at noon on the Wednesday before thesession begins so that instructors can be assigned. Classes fill quickly; therefore we suggest you resisteras early as possible, especially if you are trying to coordinate multiple children at the same time.Minimum enrollment required in each class and classes are subject to cancellation.

Please check the class descriptions carefully. If your child is enrolled in the wrong level, you are not guaran-teed a spot in that level or the correct level-this is dependent on availability. The Aquatics Coordinatorand/or Head Instructor Guard will attempt to re-schedule your child; however all other classes may alreadybe full. Your child’s class is only confirmed with the receipt in hand. Confirmation cannot be given over thetelephone. Class schedule subject to change. Pool closures are possible-we do try to avoid this, but becauseof the tight schedule make ups are not possible. Your class fee reflects this possibility.

ENROLLMENT: Registration is accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Online, mail-in and faxregistration begin as soon as you receive thisbrochure. Students 16 years and older may enrollin adult education/recreation classes.Pre-registration is recommended as all classes/activities and events have enrollment requirements.

REGISTRATION: Registering online; detailed in-structions are provided under ActiveNet Instruc-tions and via our website; staff is always availableto help you. Maps and information specific to yourclass are also available online. If you register bymail or fax, a receipt will be emailed/mailed to you.Please allow one week for delivery. Please re-member that with mail or fax registration requests;online has 1st come 1st processed. Register earlyand we suggest the online component to guaran-tee your registration in a desired class or classes.

REFUND/TRANSFERS:• Please take care in selecting classes to avoid re-fund and transfer fees.• If you cannot attend a class for which you areregistered, a written request must be received inthe Community Programs office 5 business daysbefore the activity begins. The refund, minus a $10processing fee per class, will be issued within 3-4weeks.• A transfer from one class/event to another isavailable for a $5 transfer fee.• Refunds are not available for Public Events or on-line classes.

CANCELLED CLASSES: Advance registration isrecommended to avoid cancelled classes; how-ever, in a class/activity/ event enrollment mini-mums are not met, the class may be cancelled.Registered students will be notified in advanceand have the fees transferred to another class atno charge or choose to receive a full refund.

SENIOR DISCOUNTS: Adult 62 years and older re-ceive a 10% discount on classes/activity/eventsautomatically if a birth date is provided. Someclasses/activities/events by design are not appli-cable for this discount (payment plans, specialpricing, online courses, Public Events) and dis-counts cannot be combined.

PARKING:• Cuesta College Parking permits are required forvehicles parked on the North County and San LuisObispo campuses - Monday-Saturday, 5am-10pm,whenever the District is in session.• $2 daily permits are available from the Commu-nity Programs Office for all Community Programspatrons.• Daily parking permit machines are also availablein all paved lots.• As a registered Community patron, you may pur-chase a Summer semester permit for $15 from theCommunity Programs Office via online, mail, FAX,phone or walk-in. The Summer semester permit isvalid from June 1-Aug 14. Semester permits areavailable by pick up only. Parking permits will notbe mailed.
