Are you looking for something fun to do this summer? Do you like working with elementary age kids? Kids Club, a program of South Washington County Schools Community Education, is looking for energetic and engaging individuals to join their summer team. A perfect position for the fun-loving, flexible type, you’ll be participating in activities with kiddos, leading field trips, and ensuring a safe, enriching and nurturing environment for students to learn, laugh, relax and play. South Washington County Schools is the 6th largest district in the state, which means it takes over 200 committed staff to create an environment where children are encouraged to pursue their own interests, develop friendships, and grow their confidence and independence. With flexible schedules and no weekend or evening hours, Kids Club is the program for you to enhance your leadership skills, develop relationships with like-minded individuals, and feel like you are making a difference in the lives of children.

Here at Community Education, we strive to bring innovative programming to the communities we serve inside South Washington County School district. As our programs grow, our need for space has become a barrier to offering new and fun opportunities for youth and families. As a result, we’ve had to challenge ourselves to think of innovative ways to continue to bring you what you’ve come to expect from us - educational, creative, community building programs.

Enter, the Community Education Skoolie. Skoolie (or Schoolie), by definition is a school bus that is converted into a recreational vehicle. The Community Education (CE) Skoolie will allow us to offer convenient, affordable activities for kids to do on weeknights, non-school days, summer, and even weekends.

No experience is necessary. In addition to our focus on fun, all of our camps place a strong emphasis on risk management in the sport of rock climbing. In addition to their passion for climbing, all Vertical Endeavors instructors must go through an in-depth training program prior to instructing any of our day camp programs. Our instructors bring years of knowledge to the table in both the art of climbing movement and the technical know-how of rope and anchor systems. Above all, our instructors’ goal is to provide a fun, educational, and memorable experience for each camper and help them to achieve personal goals in a supportive and controlled environment.Base Camp will introduce kids to the sport of climbing by teaching climbing basics. We will cover risk management, knot tying and an introduction to climbing routes. The campers will improve their climbing skill and confidence through a variety of activities and games. Just then a knock comes to Doyle’s door--it is an invitation to a 3 day stay at the Boddy Hotel inviting him to solve Sherlock’s murder. But Arthur’s story hasn’t gone to print yet...could it be that the invitation came from Sherlock Holmes himself?” Auditions will be held May 14, 6-9 pm at the district Program Center although everyone who signs up to participate will be in the show... no one will be turned away for this summer production!

Horse Club for Dreamers at the Dream Team Equestrian AcademyJoin us for three and a half hours of fun with friends, horses and experienced instructors. Instruction will include safety, grooming, horsemanship, mounting, dismounting and exploring simple horse care. Riders will enjoy a formal lesson, working on building confidence and skills while learning the basics of horseback riding. Safety is very important to us at the Dream Team Equestrian Academy, participants will be expected to wear long pants and hard soled boots with a slight heel. My7on7 The mission of Minnesota Youth 7 on 7 Passing League (my7on7) is to grow and develop young athletes in football fundamentals, proper techniques, and skill development in a fun and safe environment. Our program is a minimal contact (touch) league and serves 1st-8th graders. It is designed for all skill levels:

1. Beginners: Introduces the game of football in a fun and safe environment.

2. Intermediate: Allows for high repetition and the opportunity to play multiple positions in a short season.

3. Advanced: Athletes will focus on both offensive and defensive skills to increase game IQ in order to benefit those that want to play football at the High School level.

LEGO Engineering STEM and Sports Camp Students will build a variety of theme-based, fun-filled motorized models utilizing LEGO Bricks and Technic elements with themes such as space exploration, cranium contraptions, amazing animals, interesting inventions, construction, transportation, energy is everywhere, exploring the everglades, natural science and factory fun. Precision Volleyball Camps Precision Volleyball Camps provide a summer camp experience for girls ages elementary through middle school that focuses heavily on fundamentals. Instruction will be conducted by former All American, Sara Kealy. Sara competed at the University of Illinois and is the varsity coach in River Falls, Wisconsin. Wolfpack Boys and Girls High Performance Tennis Camp These sessions are designed for current middle school and high school players already involved in the sport of tennis. Pitching CampPlayers entering grades 3-8 will be provided individualized and group instruction on the basics of pitching as well as more advanced techniques. The clinic will be run by East Ridge High School’s Head Coach, Afton Murray, former pitcher of Augustana University in Sioux Falls, SD. Afton will be joined by her East Ridge Coaching Staff, which are former collegiate softball players and coaches. Current and former East Ridge players will also be assisting in the clinic! Toddler & Parent Gymnastics This Parent/Child class will focus on basic movements and tumbling skills. Working on body awareness, motor skills, coordination, balance, and listening skills. One parent or adult must be with gymnast at all times for safety. Level 1-Preschool Gymnastics Class focuses on building confidence through strength and mobility. Basic tumbling, stretching, and flexibility skills. Working on separation from the parent to be independent. Toddlers will get work on all equipment; bars, beam, floor, tumble track, air pit. Level 2-Beginner Gymnastics This class is for the beginner gymnast with no experience. Level 3-Intermediate Gymnastics Emphasis is on tumbling skills with basic and intermediate skill on the balance beam, uneven bars, floor and vault. *Required skills-good cartwheel, walking on high beam without fear, bridges. This class we will be working on backbends, round offs, vaulting drills, dismounts off beam, bridge kick overs down cheese mat, pullovers and back hip circles on bar, as well as other skills and drills. M.A.G.A. Team Gymnastics This program is open to gymnasts who have completed the required skills and are ready for a competitive program. Invite only/request tryout only. We accept kids from the USAG program. Gymnasts will compete around Minnesota approximately 6 times from December through March and compete under High School rules, This is a feeder program into the high school program. Gymnasts are required to train year round for this program. Proud to say we have won the state championship for 4 years and have had numerous kids that were individuals state champions and went on to high school and were state high school gymnasts from the Maga program. Invite ONLY. Boys’ Gymnastics This class is for boys only and is designed to offer them an experience in the following events: high bar, vault, and floor events. Must be at least 5 years old.

Registration Information Aquatics online registration ends 48 hours in advnace of class start date. After that, a late fee of $5 is assessed per registration. Late registrations can still be taken at the District Program Center (DPC) until 2:00 PM on the Friday before a Monday morning start or 2:00 PM on the day of a evening class. After 2:00 PM, all registration are taken at the pool on a first come first serve basis.

As a reminder: please be sure to check online, and review your course confirmation for any no class/close dates. If you have registered for the wrong class, call us at 425-6600 to move the registration to the correct class. Do not register for the correct class in order to get a spot. Requesting a refund vs. doing a transfer results in a $5 fee.

Cancellations Before one week prior to start date: a per course processing fee will be deducted from your refund. For example: if the class cost is between $5-$124, a $5 fee will be applied. If class cost is $125 or higher, a $10 fee will be applied.

Within a week prior to start date: a per course processing fee of 50% will be deducted from your refund or you can choose to receive a credit voucher for a similar class, minus these fees. For example: if the class cost is between $5-$124, a $5 fee will be applied. If class cost is $125 or higher, a $10 fee will be applied.

Day of and there after: No refunds or credit vouchers issued.

TransfersMove to a different class free of charge within the current season when done prior to the class start date. Less than 24 hour notice a $5 fee is assessed for the move.

Missing a Lesson There are no make up lessons for group classes. Prearrangements can be made with private lessons. If we must close the pool during your lesson, you will receive a voucher equal to the monetary amount for the time missed, valid for one year.

Medical Release A voucher, minus a $5 processing fee for the remaining classes, is issued for a physician recommended medical release. This release must be faxed to 651-425-6620 in order to receive a voucher good toward future swimming lessons or open swims.

Financial Assistance Children on free or reduced lunch may apply for a reduction on class registrations. Pay as little as $15 per class. Forms are available online at www.cecool.com or at the Community Education office, located in the DPC. Application and authorization letter are required each year. A request form to use the child’s allocated assistance funds must accompany the child’s registration request.

To use Financial Assistance the request and registration form must be submitted at least 2 weeks prior to the class start date. Mail, fax or complete in person at the District Program Center. Applications not taken online.

Pool RentalLooking for a fun and unique idea for your next birthday, family gathering or special occasion? Have a pool party! Pool rental is $74.75 per hour for 1-35 guests. For 36 guests or more, the hourly rate is $97.75. Rental includes lifeguard supervision and can be reserved in 15 minute increments after the initial hour. On weekends, there is an additional custodial fee of $34.50 per hour, with a 2 hour minimum. Custodial fee includes 15 minutes prior to arrival & 15 minutes after departure. Cafetorium rental for residents is $4 per hour. For availability, please call 651-425-6610.

Year Open/Lap Swim MembershipApplications found on www.cecool.com. Your membership application must be received in the District Program Center in order to be processed. Continue to pay the daily entrance fee until your membership card arrives in the mail. Valid one year from date of purchase. Lap swim is restricted to age 13 +. Please note: Memberships are not sold at the pool.

Children and Water Safety1. Teach your child to swim. 2. Watch your child with undivided attention

even with a lifeguard on duty. 3. Wear a lifejacket on all small water crafts.

In a collision, even a good swimmer can be knocked unconscious.

4. Wear a lifejacket under outerwear when on frozen bodies of water. If the ice breaks, there will be extra insulation and bouyancy.


aquaticsYOUTH CLASS DESCRIPTIONSToddler A (1-2 years) B (2-3 years)Have fun while helping your child adjust to the water. Toddlers should wear protective swim wear such as plastic pants under a tight leg swim suit or a swim diaper. Do not attend class if your child is experiencing diarrhea.

Preschool Beginner 3-5 yearsThis is the starting class for this age group.Children begin working with an instructor, following safety rules, learning to float, and adjusting to the water through games that build confidence and skills.

Preschool Advanced A 3-5 yearsWith staff approval, for children who are comfortable in the water. Children can submerge face on request; with instructors support, are comfortably floating on their back with their ears in the water; can perform kicking while on front and back; follows safety rules and instructions.

Preschool Advanced B 4-5 yearsFor children who are very comfortable in the water; can get their whole head wet; float on their back and front with minimal instructor support; and can swim independently with a noodle or float belt.

Beginner 1 6-14 yearsThis is the starting class for this age group. Supported floats, glides, and beginning front and back stroke work are covered. Safety practices and becoming comfortable in the water are emphasized. If your child is currenlty underage for the course that they are authorized to enroll in, please call 425-6610 to arrange an adjustment for online registration.

Beginner 2 6.5-14 yearsWith staff approval, for children who can float on their front with their face in the water; float on their back with ears in the water; and swim a very basic stroke on front with breath control and back with forward motion.

Beginner 3 7-14 yearsWith staff approval, for children who can swim in deep water independently using the front crawl with their arms out of water while using breath control; can float on their back for 15 seconds and can swim on their back for 15 feet. Intermediate 1 7-14 yearsFor children who can swim the front crawl with side breathing 15 yards; elementary backstroke for 15 yards; sissors kick for 10 yards; and can front float, back float and tread water, each for 30 seconds.

Intermediate 2 7-14 yearsFor children who can swim the front crawl 25 yards; back crawl 15 yards; sidestroke 15 yards; elementary backstoke 25 yards; and tread water for 1 minute.

Advanced 8-14 yearsFor children who can swim front crawl and elementary backstroke 25 yards; breaststroke, butterfly, back crawl and sidestroke 15 yards; and tread water for 2 minutes.

Swimmer 8-14 yearsFor children who can swim front crawl and elementary backstroke 50 yards; breaststroke, butterfly, back crawl and sidestroke 25 yards; tread water for 5 minutes; perform front tuck and pike position surface dives; and flip turns.

New to Preschool LessonsChildren can experience high anxiety

when attending lessons for the first time. Mimimize this experience by doing a previsit to one of our open swims

where you can introduce your child to the locker room and play in the water. This experience allows your child to

discover this new environment with your encouragement and excitement.

Learn to Dive-Beginner 1/2 This course introduces the basics and fundamentals of the sport of diving. You will learn the proper techinques to safely execute basic drills. Students at a Beginner 2 level will work on basic dives while continuing to improve their form and strength.

Road Trip Hoopla! Concordia Language Villages Spanish Camp Imagine a comical road trip in a far off land! The journey is filled with car games like I S(p.Y, Road Trip Bingo, or Name that Tune! We’ll try to avoid obstacles along the way, but you never know when sheep will cross the road or when a tire will pop! GRASP Math and ReadingHelp your child maintain reading and math skills this summer. Community Education has arranged for interested families to participate in a program called GRASP (Grand Rapids Academic Summer Program). GRASP is a 9 week correspondence program for grades K to 7 which helps students maintain skills while they are on summer vacation. It should take your child approximately one hour per week to complete each weekly lesson. Lessons are completed, mailed to the scoring center where they are analyzed and then returned to you. Students who successfully complete the program receive a certificate of completion; students completing all nine weeks with a score of 70 percent or more receive a medal. Instruction sheets found in each packet provide all the necessary information. We suggest parents order the grade level just completed. If there are extenuating circumstances, order the level that is appropriate for your child. In mid June, a packet containing a workbook, answer sheets, instructions, and pre-addressed envelopes will be mailed to your home.

ISD 833 teachers have developed an online summer course to help students going into grades 1-8 review grade level curriculum from the school year just completed. District 833 Sixth Grade Beginning BandWhen students participate in band in sixth grade at one of our four middle schools (CGMS, LMS, OMS and WMS) in District 833, typically students have at least one year of experience on their instrument from participating in the District 833 Fifth Grade Elementary Band Program at their elementary school. Are you going into sixth grade at one of our four middle schools next year and are new to our district and have never played a band instrument before? Or are you signed up for band next year in sixth grade and will have never played a band instrument before? Then you need to sign up for this summer program. Students will meet with this program’s director, Mr. Utell on an individual basis before the start date to determine what instrument they will play and then once that is determined, you then participate in one of the 2-week sessions offered. Solar Olympics This exciting workshop makes solar come to life. Your students will get a chance to conquer a solar challenge obstacle course. Obstacle courses include solar scooter race, solar water pumping, and solar air cannon challenge. But first students will get their hands dirty with building a custom generator that powers the equipment for the challenge course. They will learn the ins and outs of how a solar generator works. The winners of the obstacle challenge will take home the generator battery pack that was built in class.

Native American’s Guide to Using the Sun The sun is your best friend if you know how to use it! In this class, students will learn skills they can use for life. If you need to cancel a class registration within one week of start date, a credit voucher for the full fee, minus a processing fee, for a similar class will be given. No refunds or credit vouchers will be given on or after start date of class.
