BackgroundThe Orange Tree (OT) is an award-winning, independent theatre. Recognised as a powerhouse that creates high-quality productions of new and rediscovered plays, we
entertain 70,000 people across the UK every year.
The OT’s home in Richmond, London, is an intimate theatre with the audience seated all
around the stage: watching a performance here is truly a unique experience.

As a registered charity (266128) sitting at the heart of its community, we work with 10,000 people in Richmond and beyond through participatory theatre projects for
people of all ages and abilities.
Purpose of roleWe’re seeking a dynamic manager to join our Community team to deliver the OT’s
ambitious Community programme. Ensuring excellent communication and organisationacross the department and the wider OT team. Working with the Community Director to
maintain and develop our annual programme beyond the OT and through digital reach.

Community Manager Responsibilities:• Work as part of the Community team to ensure the OT’s continued relevance to schools,
young people and the local community.
• Strengthen relationships and partnerships with the education and training sector, with
community and youth organisations and with other theatres, arts organisations.
• Manage OT Community Theatre Groups strand which includes Early Years, Youth
Theatre and Community theatre groups.
• Produce OT’s Community Festival in Summer 2022, liaising with directors, designers, stage managers and cast to produce the two-week festival.
• Coordinate and liaise with project practitioners, support their planning, recruit project participants, administration, monitoring and feedback.
• Line management of assistant practitioners and any placements.
• Manage the OT Community Theatre Groups budget in consultation with the Community Director.
• Maintain and administrate schedules and communicate updates at weekly staff meetings,
ensuring that all activities planned are cleared by the OT Technical team.
• Maintain and administrate GDPR compliant contact sheets and GDPR compliant schools’
database.
• Manage and administrate feedback and monitoring processes for all Community activities
and support the Community Director and the Development and Communications Director in reporting and funding applications for Community work.

Community Manager responsibilities continued
• Develop career development opportunities for all ages through OT Community’s "How
We OT” which offers workshops, career days and series of digital interviews on social media.
• Manage and develop OT Community's social media accounts.
• Explore new partnership opportunities for national community events and organiseannual participation events at the OT.
• Support the Community Director to develop and expand the Community Programme
both in geographical reach and diversity of participants.
• Liaising with teachers to manage group bookings, tour bookings and workshops to meet
yearly targets.
• Support the General Manager in availability checking and administration when
contracting cast and creatives for Community productions.
• Take responsibility in ensuring that all children, young people, and vulnerable adults are always kept safe, in line with the OT’s Safeguarding Policy.
• Deputise for the Community Director as Designated Safeguarding Lead.
• Provide pastoral care for all young people and vulnerable adults who take part in OT activities.
• Work with the Marketing team to promote Community Shows and shows which might be relevant to an audience the Community department works with.

General
• As a term of your employment from time to time you may also be asked to undertake
other such appropriate duties as and when required of you, as well as being asked to work flexible hours to suit the operation of the organisation.
• Participate in all training and development initiatives as required.
• Attend OT press nights and special events.
• Support the admin office to pick up admin calls during busy periods or absence of available personnel.
• Oversee measures to maintain our environment policy (including recycling and monitoring energy use)

Contract and terms
Title of post: Community Manager (Full Time)
Salary: circa £27,000 pro annum dependent on experience
Contract: Permanent, subject to a probationary period of 3 months
Notice: 2 weeks during probation, 8 weeks thereafter
Holiday entitlement: 21 days a year pro rata, plus 8 statutory bank holidays
Hours: Full Time. Full Time 40hrs per week including 1 hour paid lunch break each
day. Office hours are Mon-Fri, 10am-6pm. Office hours are Mon-Fri, 10am-6pm. Our
office is based in Richmond, London, though some working from home will be
considered. Due to the nature of the position, evening workshops and occasional
weekend work will be required without payment for overtime but TOIL will be agreed
with the Community Director

Skills and experience
Desirable• Experience of creating persuasive funding proposals
• Practical knowledge of the Spektrix database• Passion for theatre
• Experience of working in the arts or charity sector• Good sense of humour
