WOMEN’S HISTORY MONTH The National Women’s History Project is honoring women who have

shaped, and are shaping, America’s history through their public service and government leadership. The Na-

tional Women’s History Museum presentation “First But Not the Last: Women who Ran for President” fea-

tures the 12 women who have run for president, as well as notable Massachusetts women of history: Ameri-

can Red Cross founder, Clara Barton; organizer of the first Women’s Rights Conference in Worcester in

1850, Lucy Stone; the second “First Lady,” Abigail Adams; and Secretary of Health and Human Services/

Congresswoman/U.S. Ambassador to Ireland, Margaret Heckler.

If you or someone you know has

a serious chronic illness, pallia-

tive care may be an op-

tion. It provides relief from the

symptoms, side effects, and emotional stress of a

serious illness. The goal is to improve quality of life

for the patient and family. Palliative care is provided

by a specially trained team of doctors, nurses, and

other specialists who work together with a patient’s

other doctors to provide an extra layer of support. It

is appropriate at any age and at any stage in a seri-

ous illness, and it can be provided along with cura-

tive treatment. For more information, please stop by

the VNA Care Advantage office by Town Center, or

call 508-460-5286.

HEALTH & FITNESS TIP Falls are a leading

cause of injury among older adults, and according to

the Mayo Clinic, these simple steps can help prevent

falls. Consider discussing with your care providers:

Medications: Review potential interactions and

dosages, and adjust as needed.

History of Falling: Review the details of any pre-

vious falls to work out specific fall-prevention

strategies.

Health Conditions: certain eye or ear disorders,

dizziness, and conditions that cause difficulty

breathing can contribute to falls.

Physical Activity: with your doctor’s approval, try

our walking, water, strengthening, balancing, and Tai

Chi activities. And always wear good walking shoes!
