Comet Stevenage Sunday Football League Division Three Cup Final Phillip Schofield Memorial Trophy

@ Top Field, Hitchin Town FC

Bedwell Rangers versus

Broadhall ‘A’

•Meet the Teams

•Today’s officials •Vital Statistics

The Comet Stevenage Sunday Football League (CSSFL) would like to welcome the officials, players and supporters of Bedwell Rangers FC and Broadhall FC to this

evening’s CSSFL Division Three Cup Final here at Hitchin Town FC.

We also extend a warm welcome to our match officials for the game who are John Batcheldor, Dave Wisson and Keith Bell.

We hope everyone enjoys their brief visit and also has a safe journey home afterwards.

The CSSFL would like to thank Hitchin Town Football Club and in particular, Club

Secretary Eileen Bone for the use of their facilities for our Cup Finals this season. We were given five possible dates, even before their last league game, let alone the play-offs semi-final and subsequent final on the same pitch. We’re delighted they gained promotion. Our own local team have been less helpful this season with their non-committal approach due to ‘potential’ play-offs. The added extras that HTFC also

provide make it more special.

Should the scores be level at the end of 90 minutes of normal play, an additional 30 minutes of extra-time will be played.

If still level, the game will be decided by a penalty shoot-out.

This is one of the most intriguing finals. These two teams could also be facing off for a title-decider this Sunday, whilst Bedwell have won the Herts Junior Cup and Broadhall also reached another final on Thursday night, a second-successive in the Frank Neville

Memorial Cup Final. Will the boots of Smith and Hillard be crucial?

Above all, we hope everyone enjoys the match, and that it passes off without incident.

The Division Three Cup is also named The Philip Schofield Memorial Trophy, after a former Referee of ours.

Don’t forget to keep an eye on the website for all the latest information! www.cssfl.info

BEDWELL RANGERS

CLUB HISTORY: Bedwell Rangers was formed in 1959, it was the first youth club to be founded in Stevenage and has been

providing quality youth football coaching for young players. The club now has seven girls teams, ten boys mini soccer & eight boys youth teams, three disability teams and the Adult Sunday Men’s team.

We are very proud of the club, its history and its future.

The club is affiliated to the Hertfordshire Football Association we were one of the first clubs in Hertfordshire to achieve FA Charter Standard status, when the charter mark was introduced in 2001. In 2009 we achieved full

registered charity status.

For the 2009/10 season the club has 23 teams and over 270 playing members, all the children play matches and train each week. The teams play in a variety of local and county league and cup competitions including the

Stevenage Mini Soccer League, the Royston Crow Youth League and the Herts County Cup competition.

The Sunday men’s team was formed in 2009/10 season by the merger of the under 17 & under 18 team plus a few more experienced players. Finishing fourth in our first season in Division 4 was a fantastic achievement which has been eclipsed this season with the side winning the Herts Junior Cup, challenging for the Division

Three title as well as tonight’s Division Three Cup Final.

HONOURS: Herts Junior Cup Winners - 2010/11

JOINT-MANAGER’S COMMENTS:

This is only our second full season at this level and the side has grown beyond our expectations. They have developed into a very successful young side which we are both very proud to be involved with.

The lads did the CSSFL proud by winning the County Cup!

BROADHALL ‘A’

CLUB HISTORY: Broadhall 'A' joined the Broadhall set up at the beginning of the 2009-10 season. It was basically formed with 11 players from the previous season's successful Broadhall Youth Under-18 side, plus some talented slightly

older and more experienced players. After a good first season, a bigger and better squad has been assembled to see the team improve throughout this season.

HONOURS:

Division Four Runners-Up - 2009/10 Frank Neville Memorial Cup Runners-Up - 2009/10

A WORD ON THE SPONSORS:

The team has once again been sponsored by AJS Tyres Limited (01438 722500). As well as sponsoring the team, it is comforting for all connected with the club to have such a great company to be able to look after our cars. A massive thank you to owner Andy Stevenson for sponsoring so generously for items such as the kit,

equipment and most importantly the presentation nights and team curry nights!

SECRETARY’S COMMENTS: Another year, another very successful year for our Mr Hancock and his squad. It is hard to put into words what a pleasure it is to help these boys in some small way. Imagine you are a club secretary and you had a squad that always paid money on time, hardly ever got booked and still won match after match? A dream right? In fact, this is normal behaviour for this bunch of boys, they do the club, Mark and most of all themselves great

credit. Good luck this evening lads, save some beer for me!

Steve “Wellsy” Wells

MANAGER’S COMMENTS: Tonight's Divisional Cup Final starts an amazing week at the end of our second season in adult football. It is fitting that the two best teams in Division 3 should be contesting this final. Bedwell Rangers are certainly the

form team and we have been the most consistent team throughout the season. Let's hope for a great final. We reached the Frank Neville Memorial Cup Final again last Thursday, on Wednesday we will look to clinch the

league title; should we fail, it's another 'final' against Bedwell Rangers next Sunday! I would like to pay tribute to my squad of players; it has again been a privilege and an honour to manage them. They have continued their

development into a team that can really play good football, and be a team that nobody relishes playing against. There is a great team spirit, lots of laughs and a real feel good factor within the squad. Thanks also to our

supporters and to the guys who help me; Ian March and Dave Allaway. Ian is a real football man, who has been a brilliant assistant-manager this season and Dave continues to be a great support, who is full of good ideas. Ian and Dave are also well liked by the players. Thanks also to Ian Carter for being the best linesman around

and a final thanks to Wellsy for everything he does.

Mark Hancock

PLAYER PROFILES

Will Harris (#1)Profile: Thought we were going to lose the best

‘keeper around to world travel. Thankfully, he hasn't got enough money, so we've had the

benefit of his exceptional talent!

Joe Lee (#2) Fantastic attacking defender who possesses a fearsome shot and is the best header of the ball in the team. Very popular, happy chappy who is always likely to pinch a goal.

Matt Jackson (#3) New signing this season. Once settled in, Matt

has become a regular starter in defence or midfield. Great all round player, who delivers a lovely cross with his left foot. A smashing lad.

Matt Dimond (#4) Profile: Lynch pin of the team's defence with Brad. He is a fantastic footballer and opponents hate to play against him because he is so good. A great character, who is very well liked by all.

Brad Westall (#6) Profile: Giant of a captain, who forms a great

partnership with his mate Matty D. He displays all the attributes of a top defender; he is quick,

strong, and brilliant in the air and a calm, assured leader who everyone respects.

Gary Hillard (#7) Profile: What a great new signing. The 'old man' of the team at 23, Gary has settled in to score some great and crucial goals. A wonderful, friendly guy, who is probably the best known bloke in Stevenage!

Phil Stevens (#8) Paul Hancock (#9) Profile: After an outstanding season, Paul's opportunities have been limited, as he has been away attending Leicester University. When he has played he has demonstrated his talent as a terrific all round centre forward.

Profile: Wonderfully quick, consistent player, who can literally play anywhere. Bags of ability

and a never say die attitude that is an example to all. Phil's goal tally is again in double figures,

which shows his value to the team. Cameron Bridger (#10) Rob Stevenson (#11)

Profile: Part of the Broadhall set up forever, Midfielder Cam has only played a limited number

of games this season, mainly due to injury. Cameron's all round ability and enthusiasm has been missed, so it is great he is now recovered.

Profile: Rob possesses a sweet left foot which delivers unbelievable set-pieces. Most of his goals are long distance thunderbolts. Consistent performances have secured his starting place for virtually the whole season in defence.

Jon Myers (#12) Profile: Jon is a really intelligent footballer who is

good on the ball and never stops working. His attitude is brilliant and he never moans or

complains. He is another who is very popular with his team mates.

Matt Henning (#14) Profile: Matt has again proved to be a real mainstay of the heart of our midfield. A talented player with a great left foot who always appears to have time when in possession. Matt has had a knee injury which rates him doubtful for tonight.

Terry Lee (#15) Profile: Another mainstay of our midfield. Terry’s

ability to beat players and his commitment has again been a great example. Terry is passionate

about football and a real leader on the pitch.

Michael Emmings (#16) Profile: This season Michael's opportunities have been limited, as he has been away on Army training. When he has played he has demonstrated his immense talent. Michael Carter (#18) Jordan Tyrrell (#17)

Profile: Part of the Broadhall set up for many years, Jordan is like an old-fashioned tricky

winger. He has skill and pace to easily take on and beat defenders. Limited opportunities this

season, but lately he is looking very good again.

Profile: New signing this season. Initially bided his time, but once he got in the team, Michael has shown great skill and the ability to pick out a pass. Wins the most penalties by a mile!

Glenn Heritage (#20) Profile: New signing this season. Glenn has

been a great addition, as he never stops working. His attitude is brilliant and he never moans or complains. Season ended last week with that

elbow fracturing his eye socket!

Glen Durrant (#22) Profile: New signing this season. Glen has had limited opportunities, but has shown real ability when he has had the chance.

Andy Lee (#23) Position: Midfielder

New signing this season. Younger brother of Terry and Joe, Andy has been one the great

successes of this season. He is very quick, deceptively strong and has an eye for goal. He

has been a regular starter for months now.

Also thanks to: Alex Hancock, James March, Matt Steer and Perry Thompson.

The Man in the Middle

* JOHN BATCHELDOR *

“Batch”, aged 62, took up refereeing in 1985 after getting too old to kick anybody anymore, having played for

Cygnet Rovers and Forest United in his younger days.

Has been married to Rosemary for 23 years and lives in Shefford, Beds. Used to manage Benington for several seasons and their greatest achievement was winning the County Centenary Trophy.

He’s a Level 5 referee and now only officiates in the Comet Stevenage Sunday Football League.

He is thinking of retiring after this game from refereeing due to ‘wear and tear’.

He’s also our League Chairman and Registration Secretary, plus a referee assessor on Saturday afternoons in

Bedfordshire.

Enjoys watching all sports and hobbies are football and bowls. Took up bowls sevens year ago and thoroughly enjoys the sport during the summer months.

He’s been looking forward to tonight’s final between two young sides and hopes he will not need to show any

cards. Looking forward to a good game of football and says: may the best team win.

Assistant Referee’s

* DAVE WISSON *

”Late-50s” Dave is certainly one of the most-liked Referees by the players.

Born in Kent, his playing career was mainly with the oval ball, playing Rugby for Biggleswade around 1970-73.

He first donned the all-black kit in 1999 and has always been a level 7.

He currently serves in the following: Herts Senior County League, North & Mid Herts League, Comet Stevenage Sunday League and Royston Crow Youth League.

Married to Susan, he has three sons, two still in their twenties, one early thirties. Michael, Christopher and

Thomas.

His hobbies are Football (obviously), golf, gardening, walking and reading and he’s a Manager in the Insulation Industry.

* KEITH BELL *

Keith has been playing football since he was 8 years-old and has been doing so this season for Roebuck Gate.

Aged 22, he plies his trade at the ‘bigger’ Tesco.

A massive Stevenage FC fan, he also manages the supporters’ side.

He got into refereering just this season, in October and has done a handful of games.

This is a fitting end to the season for Keith, a late appointment just last Thursday and we hope will be with the CSSFL for many years in black.
