COME MEET US

The students and faculty here at CCHS are of a special breed. There is a closeness here not found at many other schools. By the end of your first year here you feel the closeness in everyone's faces as they pass you by and say, v x H i " Everyone knows everyone else and if anyone is hurt or ill there is sadness everywhere.

Spirit and friendship are always present as students engage in fun together. There may only be a few students here but we have all learned to love each other and enjoy ourselves here at CCHS.

Freshmen Newness Fades Away Mr. Garver plays a leading role as freshman class sponsor.

Randy James, president of the Freshman Class, takes part in the Leadership Conference. Mr. French and Mr. Dillon look on with interest.

Anne Wiggin has had a hard day. These are the eyes of learning.

Biology I is a requirement for all freshmen to graduate. Ann Fox concentrates.

The day is August 25, 1976. The place is CCHS. The following is an account of one freshman's first day of high school life. Listen carefully, as we bring you the inside story. x xHow did I ever get myself into this mess? What happened to the simplicity I knew in J r . High? Excuse me, sir, could you tell me how to get to room 205? Down the hall and third door to the left? Thank you very much. Oh no! Girls restroom? Rule one: never ask a senior for directions.77

This may be an exaggeration, but many freshmen find it difficult

to adjust to this new environment. High school life differs from any experience the freshmen have ever had. The rules are different, the responsibilities greater, and the fun is double.

After freshmen become oriented with school policies they begin to get involved. Many opportunities are open. Clubs plead with freshmen to join. The sport spotlight is available to shine on all who wish to compete. Excitement now combines with warmness, and the freshmen are accepted.

Homecoming projects attract the attention of many freshmen. Doug Farmer heads this active group.

FOOTBALL CROWDS The spirit of a crowd. CCH.S. IN ACTION!

Crowded into a line, everyone who makes a football team work.

Football Fans at Cavalier Field! The Football fans were abundant this year. If games were on how loud you cheered, or how fired-up a team was, or how crazy the fans were, Culver Cavaliers would rank number one.

If secret T.V. cameras were watching all the high school football games in Indiana, what would they see? At the South Central football field the cameraman would see a few fans huddling together in a corner, not participating and uninterested in the game. At the Tri-County football field he would see a couple of cheerleaders standing in front of empty bleachers only to cheer at the football lights. At Cavalier field the cameraman would see the entire grandstand

filled with people of every age clapping and stomping. And if he tunes the T.V. in a little more he can even see some Cavaliers shivering from the terribly cold weather. What courage the fans have to expose themselves to the bitter cold of Indiana. The excitement is so tremendous the cameraman can stand it no longer. He simply has to turn the volume on. u Wow!" What enthusiasm, what loudness, the fans are going wild! He can hear above the roar Coach Heath giving last minute instructions to the team.

The cameraman may think that this is an extraordinary game—the fans are so excited! But we know better. This is just an ordinary game for the Culver Cavaliers.

Mary O'Grady may be little, but she sure is tough!

Mr. Reese awaits the beginning of another Health Class.

Brett Baker, are you loitering in the hall again?

Mr. Hummel watches as Joe Sheppard makes his decisive move.

Ces Walter, our queen, taking her victory lap. Cam Tinsley and Mark Wamsley taking their final walk as last year's king and queen of CCHS.

Standing proudly for their classes are our underclassmen homecoming candidates.

Terri Reinholt congratulates Larry Miller, representing FFA in winning first place in the homecoming parade.

Cam Tinsley, last year's queen, crowns our newly reigning homecoming queen, Ces .Walter.

What happens when you take a CCHS football game and add the following ingredients: a parade, a queen contest, a dance, and hundreds of excited kids? Obviously the final result can be nothing but a CCHS football homecoming.

Homecoming 77 proved different from all others in the past. The first football homecoming in Culver's history was achieved. A parade enhanced the morale of everyone who attended. The student council organized the affair. The stage was set for a new and wonderful experience that had not yet been born at CCHS.

Holly Bowman, the trainer, leads our Cavalier, Tim Overmyer on his victory ride. Carl Koebbe, looking very distinguished, M.C.'s our first football homecoming.

WE MAY NEVER PASS THIS WAY AGAIN

What's the matter, Rory, is the crown too tight? Jubilant Rory Smith awaits his crowning by Scot McKinnis, as newly crowned queen Juli McCombs and a smiling court look on with excitement.

The annual Junior-Senior Prom was held May 1, 1976 at the Grand Country Barn outside of Star City. Many students, faculty members and guests attended the prom last year making it a very crowded and exciting event. The King and Queen were Rory Smith and Juli McCombs. This came about after long and complicated voting procedures. The total preparation for the prom was involved as Junior Class members spent many hard working months to make it all come about. The sponsor for the 1975-76 Junior Class was Mr. Richie and the class officers were: Scot McKinnis, pres., John DeWitt, vice pres., and Kelly Middleton, sec.-tres. All in all the Prom was a big success, and the Seniors seemed to appreciate the work done for them.

Everyone seems to be enjoying himself on the crowded dance floor as the band plays and the prom-goers dance to the music.

JUNIORS HAVE MAY DAY PROM

Alice, watch where your going! The Spokane band members play in the background while Alice Kelso dances.

Senior Class president Debbie Dancy, and V. president Bob Craycraft enjoy activities at the prom.

. . . the gruel was served out; and a long, grace was said over the short commons. The gruel disappeared;... he was desperate with hunger, basin and spoon in hand he said: vxplease, sir, I want some more." From OLIVER TWIST.

MATH/PHYSICS A WAY OF LEARNING ART AND ENGLISH DEPARTMENTS

Bob Holbrook, Craig Winters, and Mr. Pinder prepare for a Physics lab. Mr. Pinder teaches Algebra II, Physics, and General Math.

Mr. Schmidt teaches Algebra I, General Math, and Math IV.

Cheryl Pinder and Regina Pratt play an active part in a Physics lab.

% Mrs. Coby teaches Geometry and General Math. Here she explains the geometric significance of a kite.

As Mrs. Kline would say, "Express Yourself."

Joe Sheppard or Mr. Muscleman, thinks he Miss McMunn helps Don Williams in reading, has to be strong to take Art.

Mike Snyder looks at his subject infinitely

The Art Department is one in which the creative individual can show his talent by displaying his drawings. This department also includes their own club.

Our English Department consists of electives, which each last nine weeks. There are many different classes in acting, literature, and writing. Mrs. Harness shows Jackie McCoige a few pointers about

drawing.

Shelly Wynn has grown a little since last year.

The Foreign Language Department this year consists of Spanish and French. The two teachers are: Spanish, Miss Vasquez and French, Miss Dearth. Each class is on a different level and there are four levels. The two classes each have a club which is very active. For example the Spanish Club puts on a Spanish Night with tacos.

Mike Rackich and Jeff Borg look pleased when thinking of tacos.

AMATEUR ATHLETES OR P.E. PROS P.E. is the class that

really livens up your day. Some of the best dressed faculty members teach these classes. Mrs. Luebcke, Mr. Heath, and Mr. Reese, combine their efforts toward the teaching of these future athletes. Both freshman and sophomores, are required to take one and a half years of P.E. You know that this really adds up to one and a half years of fun.

SUCCESS IN SOCIAL STUDIES

Peggy Ruby waits for the volleyball to come her way in P.E.

Mr. Lawson, giving the old "evil eye"! Mr. Richie lectures his class.

Bea Roberts laughs while Mrs. Luebcke grades her class. Tom Rakowski gets ready while Jamie Jones eyes the situation.

Enthusiastic Rick Scott, times an obviously exciting, wrestling match.

It's been a long day, right, Mr. Hicks?

The Social Studies department at CCHS includes such courses as: U.S. History, Government, Economics, Psychology and others. Three teachers combine their efforts to teach these courses, Mr. Latham Lawson, Mr. Steve Richie and Mr. Robert Hicks.

There is a high enrollment in the Social Studies department. The large enrollment proves that there are many interesting areas of study, right? Or could it be that at least three courses in this department are required to graduate?

BASEBALL SEASON

Craig Cultice and Paul Keith received the pitching award for their contribution to a winning summer season.

Coach Reese was proud to announce Culver's baseball team had again represented Culver in a fine manner, finishing its season with a 14-4 record. One of the highlights of the year was Bi-County where we were runners-up in competition.

We commend you on your successful season and hope that it can continue.

This year's football season was an exciting one! We didn't win all our games, but everyone was full of the football spirit. We only won 3 out of our 8 varsity games, but some were really close. V NDoc" Heath said our games against North Judson, Winamac and S. Central, were all decided in the last 4 min. of the game.

Our B-team and freshman team also did not have much luck, as their records were both 0 and 3. Awards for outstanding accomplishments were given at a convocation at the end of the season; they went to: Bruce Musical—Outstanding offensive back, Rick Scott—Outstanding offensive lineman, Larry Boyne—Outstanding defensive back, and Mark Pratt received the mental attitude award.

What a great team! What an exciting season!

It was a touching moment for all as Mrs. Walter Scott presented the flag to team captains, Tony Kozlowski, Bruce Musial, and her son, Rick Scott.

Here Rick Scott raises the flag as Bruce Musial and Tony Kozlowski help. The flagpole was dedicated in memory of Rick's father, the late Walter Scott.

Team work!

The 1977 wrestling team proves to be a good one. The team has won 10 matches and lost only 2. Also this year the team won the Culver Double Duo Match. Although, they had a heartbreak sectional as a team by losing to Culver Military by one 2V2 points; they did come up with 9 regional qualifiers.

The Culver team managed success with a lot of practice and sacrifice.

We have again passed through another volleyball season, coming out victorius for both Varsity and J r . Varsity. The girls were all very dedicated and spirited throughout the year and that's exactly what it takes to be a winner.

Practices began before school started and were normally everyday for two hours. The new season brought in quite a few interested freshmen who were all ready to give their 100% toward teamwork. The first week was full of exercises and practicing the basics of volleyball such as bumping, setting, and serving. With time, the skills of everyone matured and it was time to push forward to the more advanced volleyball. Overhand serves began,

skimming the net, spikes were becoming a must, and most important, the team was playing together as a whole. They were ready for their first game!

Coach Nancy Luebcke commented, X XI am looking forward to next year, for I have ten returning letter-persons who I feel will carry Culver volleyball through another winning season." She also said, x xWe are losing two important seniors from the team, Mari Measles and Carla Foust."

Announced at the Sports Convocation were: Most Valuable Player, Mari Measles, and Mental Attitude, Brenda Crowel. These girls were chosen by their fellow teammates.

Congratulations on a winning season girls!

CCHS Girls Take and now; A word from our Coach . . .

The 1976-77 girls basketball season proved to be very successful. Their season record showed 9 wins and 6 losses, but most important, a sectional win. This championship was very gratifying because it is the only back to back sectional win in the school.

Deb Miller led the team in rebounds, scoring, and was voted the team's most valuable player. Carla Foust, Pam McCune, and Mari Measels added the touch of experience needed for a winning season. This years 7

Seniors will be missed, but the team is looking forward to another fine season next year.

Other events were Ride-A-Bike for the Retarded, Career Night, State conventions, and a Regional Conference. These are only a few projects the FEA takes part in. The club holds high honors with Lynn Nehls being a state officer for Area 3.

Thespian Society/Health Careers

The Office Education Association is a national organization sponsored by Miss Nichols. The officers are: President—Frank Ludwig, Vice President— Vicki Shidaker, Secretary—Susan Baker, Treasurer—Wendy Burkett, Historian/ Reporter—Ces Walter. Is the world really a stage? All the Thespians seem to think so. This club is unique. You join and you become a J r . Thespian. After long hours of dedication, you finally become a Thespian. Now you are not only a member of a school organization, but also a member of an international society. In spring 1976, Robert Scott and Chris Vernum were chosen best actor and actress respectively for their exceptional performances in "Godspell". This particular production stirred the hearts of many, especially those who took part in it. Productions for the 76-77 year included v xThe Night of January 16th" and a spring musical "Hello Dolly". The Thespians are under the new direction of Mrs. Bennett.

Future Homemakers of America is a national vocational organization which helps youth assume responsibilities to prepare for their role in society. Chapter projects help develop leadership and initiative and the ability to carry out decisions.

Health Careers is obviously concerned with opportunities in the health professions. The school nurse, Mrs. Coffey sponsors the group. The club offers students who are interested in a medical future a chance to explore all the possibilities. Regina Pratt functions as the club's president.

"Well is everybody here?" That question is answered frequently by the CCHS Pep Block and always with a resounding x xyea man!" This is just a mere portion of the dedication they put into cheering for the many sports at Culver, even though their voices are abolished by the end of the year. The Pep Block is a great support for the cheerleaders and all the teams as well.

The Lettermen are a group that have worked very hard to earn the letter on their sweaters. To earn the letter you must have participated in at least one Varsity sport. To receive a jacket you must have earned at least five letters in a Varsity sport.

This club is responsible for a lot of the entertainment at Culver. Such as their annual chili supper and Meet The Team Night. They sponsor various other activities during the year to keep the students busy.

Ah Rembrandt Picasso! We have our own here at Culver. The Art Club at CCHS is really great. They are very hard workers when it comes to school activities. They were in the Homecoming Parade, and painted the windows for the first home basketball game.

Have you ever heard the expression a song makes the world go 'round? Well in Culver's case it makes the students go 'round. This is the CCHS choir under the direction of Mrs. Taylor. The Choir brightens up the students near Christmas time each year with their lovely songs. They are not really considered a club because they have a class that meets every day.

These people also know what music is all about. The Choraliers perform for many other things. They may go to meetings or to the senior citizens home. They bring cheer where ever they may go. These people also have class every day.
