Jim Crall, DDS, ScDDr. Crall is a (board-certified) Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry, and subsequently obtained masters and doctoral degrees in Health Policy and Management from the Harvard School of Public Health. Dr. Crall currently is Director of the HRSA/ Maternal and Child Health Bureau’s National Oral Health Policy Center and Professor and Chair of Pediatric Dentistry at UCLA.
Stephen M. Downs, MD, MSDr. Stephen Downs is the Jean and Jerry Bepko Pediatric Scholar at Indiana University School of Medicine where he is Director of General Pediatrics and Children’s Health Services Research. He also directs the Regenstrief Institute Biomedical Informatics Training Program.
Paula Duncan, MD, FAAPDr. Paula Duncan is a Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Vermont, College of Medicine. Nationally, Dr. Duncan is the chair of the AAP Bright Futures Implementation Steering Committee and one of the co editors of the third edition of the Bright Futures Guide-lines for Preventive Services. She serves as a member of the AAP Oral Health Workgroup.
Renée R. Jenkins, MD, FAAP (AAP President)Dr. Renée Jenkins became President of the American Academy of Pediatrics at the 2007 NCE. As a member of the AAP, Dr. Jenkins has served on several committees and task forces. Dr. Jenkins has achieved distinction in the areas of adolescent health and meeting the needs of underserved children, both nationally and in her community. She is a professor in the Department of Pediatrics and Child Health at Howard University, and an adjunct professor of Pediatrics at George Washington University, both in Washington, DC.
Martha Ann Keels, DDS, PhDDr. Martha Ann Keels was appointed as a clinical associate at Duke Children’s Hospital of Duke University Medical Center and subsequently founded the pediatric dental clinic affiliated with Duke Children’s in 1990. Dr. Keels holds Fellowships in the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, American College of Dentists, the International College of Dentists, and is a member of several national and international associations and societies.
Jody Murph, MD, MS, FAAPDr. Jody Murph, Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Iowa Children’s Hospital, is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, Ambulatory Pediatric Association, Society for Pediatric Research, and the American Public Health Association. Her clinical interests include behavioral issues, emotional health and development of children and adolescents, and immunization issues.
Wendy Mouradian, MD, MS, FAAPDr. Wendy Mouradian, developmental pediatrician, is Associate Dean for Regional Affairs and Professor of Pediatric Dentistry and Pediatrics at the University of Washington, Seattle. She has played a national role in calling attention to the importance of children’s oral health, and chaired “The Face of a Child: Surgeon General’s Conference on Children and Oral Health” in 2000.
R. Gary Rozier, DDS, MPHDr. R. Gary Rozier is Professor of Health Policy and Administration in the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Public Health where he directs the program in dental public health. Serving on many national committees, Dr. Rozier was recently appointed by the Sec-retary of the Department of Health and Human Services to serve as a member of the Federal Advisory Committee for the National Children’s Study.
David O. Satcher, MD, PhD (16th Surgeon General of the United States)Dr. David Satcher is the 16th Surgeon General of the United States. Dr. Satcher served simulta-neously in the positions of Surgeon General and Assistant Secretary for Health from February 1998 through January 2001. He also held the posts of Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Administrator of the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry from 1993 to 1998. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians, the American College of Preventive Medicine and the American College of Physicians.

At the annual AAP National Conference & Exhibition (NCE), the Academy holds a premier symposium, Pediatrics for the 21st Century (Peds-21). Peds-21 is designed to address emerging issues that will affect the practice of pediatric care in the 21st century. Each symposium focuses on a specific topic and features a keynote speaker of national or international stature. In 2008, the focus is on Pediatric Oral Health.
Course Objectives• Promote collaboration between the medical
and dental communities in addressing children’s oral health.
• Improve child health professionals’ understanding of the causes and prevention of early childhood dental caries, the long- and short-term consequences of dental disease, and impact of dental disease on the individual, family, and community.
• Provide information about the systems of care for the improving children’s oral health.
