1,. Hook up your TV

Details are in the Connections Section starting on

page 28.

Hook up any antennas, cables or otherequipment to your TV before you follow thesteps below.

For more details, see the page numbers listed.

2. Plug in the TV

Plug the cord into the outlet, matching thewide and the small end of the plug with theoutlet.

3. Put Batteries in the Remote

A. Remove the cover of the battery

compartment.

B. Place the four AAA batteries as shown,

matching the + and -- end of each batteryin the compartment.

C. Replace the cover.

4. Turn on the TVPress "IVon the remote.

Press POWER on the TV.

General information about using the on-screen menu system is shown below. Details for the remote buttons are on pages 6-7.

Many menu items are explained in detail in Using Advanced Features starting on page 20.

Press MENU repeatedly to see each of the fourmenu colors.

With VCRs: Programming the Remote

R,_er to your VCR's owners manual to hook up your VCR. The remote may need to be programmed for your VCR. Use thecodes below or on the sheet packed with your remote.

With VCRs: Setting the VCR1 Channel

The VCR1 Channel works with the VCR1 button on the remote. If the VCR1 Channel is set, pressing the VCR1 buttonturns on the TV and VCR and tunes the TV to see the VCR signal. The VCR1 setting depends on how you have the VCRconnected. If you have the VCR connected to the VIDEO INPUT, select channel 00. If you have the VCR connected to theANT/CABLE IN connector, select channel 3 or 4--the one selected with the channel 3 or 4 switch on the back of the VCR.

Record one TV program and watch another

A. Press VGR1 or VCR2 to set the remote to

control the VCR.

B. Tune the VCR to the channel you want to

record using GHANNEL up and down orpressing two number buttons.

C. Press REGORD to start recording. :

D. Press "W/VGR on the VCR or remote.

E. Press "IVto set the remote to control theTV.

F. Press GHANNEL up or down to changechannels on the TV.

G. To see the channel you are recording, tunethe TV back to channel 00, 03, or 04.

Watch a tape in your VCR

A. Turn on VCR.

B. Insert a tape in the VCR.

C. Press PLAY to start the tape.

D. Press STOP when you are finished.

E. Press REW to rewind the tape.

With a Cable Box: Setting the Cable Channel

The Cable Channel works with CABLE on the remote. If the Cable Channel is set, pressing CABLE selects the channel tosee cable channels. The Cable Channel setting depends on whichchannel your cable box must be on to see cablechannels. The channels usually used are 02, 03, 04, 05 or 06. Consult your cable company for more information.

Listening to the FM Radio

This TV includes a built-in FM radio that can be controlled with or without the remote. The radio uses signal-seek tuning

to automatically seek and tune the next active station. If the TV is connected to a cable system, the radio only receives FMstations if they are offered by the cable company. If the TV is connected to an antenna, the radio receives FM stationsbroadcast in the area.

You can program up to nine of your favorite stations into memory when using the remote. See page 21 for details.

The radio can be also be used with the sleep timer or alarm dock. See pages 25-26 for details.

1. Turn on the Radio

You can turn the radio on by pressing theRADIO button on the remote or using themenu system. Follow the steps below for the

menu system.

A. Press MENU repeatedly to select theControls Menu. This menu is yellow.

B. Press CHANNEL down to highlight FMRadio.

C. Press + repeatedly to select Auto Tune,Manual Tune, or Off.

Select Auto Tune if you want the radio to

search and stop at the next availablestation.

2. Change the Stations

In the Auto Tune position, press CHANNEL upto automatically scan and stop on the nexthigher station. Press CHANNEL down toautomatically scan and stop on the next lowerstation.

up or down to step through each station, oneat a time. This is used when the radio signal is

not strong to stop on the station during auto-matic tuning.

3. Stop Search

B. Press the opposite CHANNEL button fromthe one that was pressed to stop on astation.

Programming FM Radio Stations into Memory

Nine radio stations can be programmed into the TV's memory so they can be quickly selected. The number buttons 1

through 9 can be programmed to automatically select the stations.

1. Select the Radio Station

A. Place the FM Radio feature under theControls menu in the Manual Tune

position.

B. Press GHANNEL up or down to stepthrough the radio stations one at a time toselect the station.

2. Store the Station

Press any number 1-9. The radio station isnow programmed. When you press thenumber, the FM radio will automaticallytune to the station programmed.

located between the highest and lowest end ofthe radio scale (between 107.9 and 88.1).

A. Select Manual Tune in the FM Radio

Ordy channels 2-13 appear in the TV's memory when you first turn it on. The channels available in your area must beprogrammed into the TV's memory when you hook up your TV. Using CHANNEL up or down allows you to scan

through these channels.

You may want to add or delete a few channels if some stations have weak signals or were off the air when the TV was

programmed. Refer to the Add or Delete Channels section below.

1. Place channels in memory (Autoprogram

A. Hook up an antenna, cable or componentsbefore you begin these steps or you willnot be able to add channels into memory.

B. Press MENU repeatedly to select the SetupMenu and highlight Autoprogram. Thismenu is white.

D. Wait until the TV has cycled through allthe channels and returns to the originalchannel.

You can name at least 20 channels with eight characters in each name. Full appears beside Label when the memory is

used up. Fixed appears when a channel number cannot be named. Below are the characters that can be used in a name.

Watching Closed Captioning

Closed captioning displays the audio of a program as words on the TV screen. It is useful for the deal hearing impaired,or anyone who wants to watch a program without sound. If you have turned Closed Captioning on and it does notappear on the screen, it is not available on the channel you are watching. Closed Captioning is not available on allprograms or at all times.

This TV does not support the text mode. Text mode information typically consists of program information, localactivities, etc.

Setting the Sleep Timer

You can set your TV to turn itself off. If you're watching TV or listening to the FM radio at night and fall asleep, the TVwill turn off for you.

The 'IV can be set to mm on or off each day like an alarm clock It can be set to turn on to a specific TV channel or FMradio station at a designated time. However, the Alarm cannot be used until the clock is set.

Things to Know When Connecting Components

Protect your components from power

surges

Connect all components before plugging any power cords into thewall outlet.

Always turn off the TV and/or component before you connect ordisconnect any cables.

Avoid audio hum or interference by

positioning cables correctly

Protect your components from

overheating

Insert all cable plugs firmly into their jacks.

• Place the audio/video cables to the sides of the TV's back panel

instead of straight down the middle after you connect your

components.

• Try not to coil any twin-lead cables and keep them away from theaudio/video cables as much as possible.

• Make sure all antennas and cables are properly grounded. Refer to

the Safety Tips sheet packed with your TV.

• Do not block ventilation holes in any of the components. Arrange the

components so that air can circulate freely.

• Do not stack components.

• Allow adequate ventilation when placing your components in astand.

• Place an amplifier on the top shelf of the stand so heated air risingfrom it wiU not flow around other components.

Protect your picture tube Keep the brightness and contrast functions at low settings whenusing TV games, computers, and similar products with your TV. If afix (non-moving) pattern is left on the screen for long periods of timeat a high brightness or contrast setting, the image can be permanentlyimprinted onto the screen. These types of imprints are not coveredby your warranty because they are the result of misuse.

You may have problems that can be fixed with a few minor adjustments. Look for the type of problem you are havingbelow and then try the suggestions to get your TV going again. For warranty information see page 39.

ANTENNA

A device used to receive locally broadcastsignals from TV stations.

AUTOCOLOR

Keeps fleshtones consistent each time youchange channels.

AUTOPROGRAM

A procedure that automatically adds the TVstations in your area to the TV's memory.

BRIGHTNESS

Light and dark areas of a picture.

CHANNEL LABEL

A name that is given to a specific channelnumber.

CHANNEL MEMORY

Where channels are stored after they have

been placed into the TV's memory. Channelscan be added or deleted from channel

memory.

COMMERCIAL SKIPA feature that allows the viewer to scan other

channels during commercials, and return tothe original channel after a timed break.

COMPONENT

Device such as VCR, laserdisc player, audioequipment, camcorder, etc.

DISABLEDTurns off feature.

DISPLAY
