VOCABULARY WORDS…

It’s good to know these vocabulary words and phrases to help prepare you for post-secondary options. Get in the know and expand your vocabulary!

All month long, you’ll get another set of words… and have a QUIZ at the end!

Post-secondary Options

What are post-secondary options? How many can you name?

This is a way of continuing your education AFTER you graduate from high school.

Options include: College, Applied Technology College, Apprenticeship, Community College, Military options, etc.

ACT

Does anyone know what the ACT is? Exam to measure a student’s scholastic development.

(Basically measures what you have learned over time)

What does ACT stand for? American College Test

What are the four areas the ACT covers? English Math Reading (social studies) Science

What is the highest score you can receive on the ACT? 36

AP

What does AP stand for? Advanced Placement These are courses taught in high school, but are

college level courses. An exam is available at the end of the course and those who pass are given high school credit AND college credit.

Concurrent Enrollment

EVERY 9th grader should know this one! What are concurrent enrollment classes?

Concurrent enrollment courses are college classes taught in high school. Students earn high school and college credit at the same time. There is not an exam at the end of the course like the AP courses. Students must pass classes with a C or better to earn credit.

What grades are they available to students? Juniors and seniors (ONLY exception is Project Lead The Way. They

can begin to earn the credit in 9th grade with certain courses!)

Free Application for Federal Student Aid

During your senior year when its time to apply for college, this application will determine your eligibility for federal financial aid. ($$$ for you to go to college!)
