KTC JOINS THE FIGHT “I learnt that in life you have a choice - and while you cannot control what happens in your life, you can control your reaction to it.” Speaking to the audience of parents, grandparents, students and teachers, Guest speaker Lara Garfunkel not only shared her story, but in retelling the story of her mother’s heroic fight with Cancer, left us all with an inspirational message: “A few months before my mother died I started a gratitude journal with my older son every night before he went to bed. We would each write down three things that had happened that day we were grateful for…” Lara and fellow speaker Tanya Stocks spoke about the dignity of life; of being able to live in the moment; of courage and of appreciating what we often take for granted. My thanks to our GHS College Captains, Tammy Lazarus and Chanie Gershowitz, who together with the SRC and Mrs Chaya Gourarie, planned and organised our Pink Ribbon Breakfast, on a scale, not seen at KTC before. Their vision and leadership made it all happen. We are also grateful to all those who donated food and to Daniel Baruch who brought his coffee to the breakfast. Everyone present took something away from the morning. We are also proud to be able to contribute, even in a small way to the national target: to raise $1.5 Million towards the Australian 2018 goal. KtC is now a proud partner in the fight against breast cancer. Shabbat Shalom. Good Shabbos. In this week’s Parsha we read about the meeting of Yaakov and Eisav. After being away from his family for over 20 years, Yaakov has returned to Eretz Yisroel and hears that his brother, Eisav, is coming towards him. After immense preparation by praying, sending gifts and even getting ready to fight, the two brothers finally meet. The Torah describes the brothers’ conversation as Yaakov tries to convince Eisav to accept is gift of peace. Eisav says “יש לי רב” “I have ROV – plenty” and initially declines to accept the gift/ Yaakov however persists and tells his brother “Please take my gift…. For Hashem has blessed me and I have everything (I need)” – “וכי יש לי כלIn these few words the Torah teaches us the difference between a Yaakov and an Eisav. Eisav says he has plenty – more than enough. Eisav is always looking to gain more and more despite having enough of what he needs. He lacks faith in Hashem to provide for him and stocks up ‘plenty’. Certainly, he will not share or part with his riches. Yaakov, on the other hand suffices

with what he has. He realizes that everything he has comes from Hashem who will take care of him and provide him his needs. There is yet another difference between the two words – plenty and everything. Plenty is quantitative. It refers to Eisav’s material wealth which could be measured. “I have everything” is qualitative. No one can have everything materially – “everything” refers to a state of mind of being happy with what you have. It’s appreciating life and the things that money can’t buy.On a deeper level “everything” refers to Yaakov’s family, who were all there with him. The most important thing for Yaakov was his family and specifically his children. So many people invest all their time making sure that their family has all the luxuries they want. They are so busy making sure there is “plenty” that they have no time to actually spend with their family. We should never lose “everything” to have “plenty.”RABBI RICHTER

Year K went on a wonderful excursion to the Botanical Gardens as a part of their Integrated Unit that centred on the book ‘Alexander’s Outing’. After recess they explored the gardens and acted out the story. Then they went on a walk where they had to find birds, and also did an exciting experiment to determine the volume of water that was needed in the hole for Alexander to escape.

The Year 3 students have had a very exciting term. They were very well represented at the PIP Showcase last Tuesday night as nine students from Year 3 presented their projects to both parents and staff. The Year 3 group was fortunate to have an incursion last Thursday. Oliver Kunz, a post-doctoral researcher at the University of New South Wales came to KTC to talk to the students about sustainability. They had to build a motorised car that would run on batteries. This would be the car of the future. As the students have been learning about sustainability, this incursion supported their learning. Students this term enjoyed their Mathematics investigation called Follow Freddy. They had to design their own maps with instructions.SUE SLATER

REMEMBRANCE DAY On Friday we assembled in recognition of Remembrance Day, which was especially significant as a centenary commemoration of ceasing hostilities on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918. We gathered not to celebrate or glorify war - but rather to remember those who have served our country during conflict and crisis. Our ceremony included a reading of short biographies of three child soldiers that lost their lives during the First World War, followed by a solemn silence during a playing of the Last Post and a reading of the Ode.SEAN RATTOS

NOVI CLASSThe last few weeks, the year 10 girls Novi class has been learning about the miracles performed by Eliyahu Hanavi at the end of Sefer Melachim Aleph. At the end of the unit, each girl painted a canvas depicting a specific miracle. Each girl also did a voice recording describing the miracle and converted the recording to a QR code

which is stuck to the bottom of each canvas. Anyone is able to come up to the canvas, scan the QR code and listen to a description of the miracles whilst looking at their beautiful artwork!AVITAL JACOBS

On Tuesday 20 November, a select group of high school boys were invited to attend a merit excursion to Cables Wake Park in Penrith to promote a healthy mind, which is key to focused learning. The seven students and their PDHPE teacher had lots of fun enjoying an exciting day of wakeboarding. One of the boys said that the best part of the day was when he managed to make it all the way around the circle on a wakeboard without falling into the water! JEREMY SMITH
