FOUNDATION AND DEVELOPMENTOF THE COLLEGE OF HEALTH STUDIES

The school was founded in 1998 as the College of Health Studies implementing three departments: Nursing, Physiotherapy and Ra-diology. The departments offered two and a half years of schooling, in other words, five terms. In the year 2000/01 a new department for Theatre assistants opened and in 2003/04 a department for Cos-meticians followed. That year the schooling length changes into three years, which means six terms. Departments for anesthetics and pharmacy opened in 2005/06. At the request of the College of Health Studies in Cuprija, on the 5th of September, 2006, Ministry of Education, following the positive opinion of the Commission on Ac-creditation and Quality Control ref.no. 612-00-1133/2006-04, issues a license for work and the School be-comes the College for Professional Studies with the licensed depart-ments for:• Physiotherapist• Cosmetician/beautician and esthe-

    GUIDE FOR STUDENTS

FOUNDATION AND DEVELOPMENTOF THE TOWN OF CUPRIJA

In the heart of Pomoravlje one of the oldest towns of Serbia is ly-ing at the foot of Kucaj mountains. Once, in the times of Romans, known as Horeum Margi, in the Byzantine times as Ravanela, dur-ing the Nemanjics was Ravno and since the Turks it has been called Cuprija.

This is the town which has been destroyed through centuries and rebuilt over again, the town with a long tradition and even longer his-tory, has existed since the ancient times. The town, in the valley of the Velika Morava, is 147km far from Belgrade and can be reached by the main railroad and the highway Belgrade - Nis.

It lies on the right bank of the Velika Morava next to the estuary of its tributary the Ravanica. It is by the nature of its location the most distinct “morava’s town” because it is the only town which is imme-diately situated on the Morava’s bank. Cuprija is the town of bridg-

es, once there was only one, which, undoubtedly, symbolizes the town, and today there are seven which has continued the tradition. This lowland town in the Pomoravlje county is the central town in the trinomial site, Jagodina on the North and Paracin on the South. Its geographical location is the most significant advantage of this mu-nicipality apart from the closeness of the two mentioned towns and the highway connecting it to other urban centers of our country.

The town of medicine, sport and education, the town of a big heart on the bank of the Velika Morava wishes you WELCOME!

STUDY OUTLINESHigh education in Europe is un-

dergoing significant reforms and more than 5600 institutions of high education and 16 million students are involved in the process.

Bologna declaration is the main guiding document of the Bolo-gna process. It was adopted by ministers of education of 29 Eu-ropean countries at their meeting in Bologna in 1999. It proposed a European Higher Education Area in which students and graduates could move freely between coun-tries, using prior qualifications in one country as acceptable entry requirements for further study in another.

At the same time it accepts va-rieties ofa national identities (cul-ture, language, tradition, etc.). In this way more flexible and efficient system of high education in Europe is aimed, which can be also com-

petitive at the global world market.Bologna Declaration proposes a

set of specific determinatives:• Introduction of European Credit

Transfer System (ECTS);• Introduction of a new study struc-

    ture which is consisted of three cycles;

    • Promotion of student/teacher mo-bility;

    • Introduction of the comparable de-gree system.European Credit Transfer System

is a unique system of quantitative evaluation of the students’ effort to gain knowledge, competence and skills anticipated by the study program and each subject/course within the corresponding program. Credits are a personification of the common “currency” in the Euro-pean system of high education and are based on the students’ en-gagement which is verified on the exam.

    GUIDE FOR STUDENTS

    FRAMEWORK OF ECTS CREDITS

    • On the average, a student works 40 hour per week.

    • Overall students’ engagement consists of regular attendant to classes and lectures, preparation for the lectures and practice, fi-nal oral exam preparation and other.

    • 60 credits are a quantitative measure for a student’s engage-ment during one academic year, or 30 credits for one semester.

    • One credit equals 25-30 hours of a student’s work.

    • Credits are granted to each teaching component within a subject/course.

    • Credits are not marks, neither their substitution. The College of Health Studies in

Cuprija offers five accredited study programs.

A study program is divided into study years and semesters. Accord-ing to ECTS system one study year is 60 credits, and thus one semester is 30 credits. One credit equals 30h of students work. The number of credits, assigned for one subject/course depends on the number of hours (theoretical or practical, ex-

ercises, seminar works and other) and the time spent for learning and exam preparation (tests, ex-ams, etc).

The overall schooling lasts three years, which means 180 credits.

A study year is organized in two semesters where each semester is realized within 15 weeks (winter se-mester and summer semester), or 30 weeks in one year. The student is engaged in: lectures (L), practice work (P) and seminars (S). The re-maining weeks are left for summer practicing, consultation, exams and a holiday.

There are 40 hours of students’ engagement per week, from 20 to 25 hours of direct work with stu-dents within one semester. The remaining hours are left for an individual work of students. One teaching hour (class) lasts 45min.

    Credits are allocated to entire

qualifications or study programs as well as to their educational com-ponents (such as modules, course units, dissertation work, practical placements and laboratory work).

  • 12

COLLEGE OF HEALTH STUDIES IN CUPRIJA, SERBIA

The number of credits ascribed to each component is based on its weight in terms of the workload students need in order to achieve the learning outcomes in a formal context.

The marks, after an exam, are graded from 5 to 10, where 5 equals ”fail” and 10 equals “excel-lent-remarkable” and represents the highest grade.

After passing all exams, a stu-dent may start preparing his/her final dissertation/diploma work. The theme he/she chooses ought to deal with topics of his/her pro-fessional orientation and be guid-ed by a mentor professor. The final exam is taken in the presence of a commission of three delegates in a special classroom equipped and furnished for that purpose.

A student is issued a certificate of passing the final exam in the course of three days. On the 27th of January (St. Sava’s Day) and on the 28th of June (Vidovdan ), stu-dents are rewarded their diplomas in a ceremonial manner.

    FRAMEWORK OF ECTS CREDITS

    STUDENTS’ RIGHT AND OBLIGATIONS

employees and students,• Participation in decision making.

Students’ right are:• Enrollment, qualitative school-

ing, objective grading;• Prompt and exact information
