Falls City JZiews: We regret ex-
ceedingly that in our notice of theBrownville Pinafore Company, aftertheir rendition of that opera in thiscity, we neglected favorable mentionof James C. McNaughton, Esq., whohad a prominent character in thecast, and to whose energy and goodjudgment the success of the perform-ance waB more largely due than thatof any other member, if we except, perhaps, Miss Cora Gates. Mr. Mo-Naught-
not only played and sangbis part in an excellent manner, butas business manager of the troupe heclosely watched every detail, and theresult was a gratifying financial suc-
cess. The notice waa hastily written, just before going to press, which isour only excuse for the omission, andwe truBt it will be pardoned by Mr.McNaughton and each member of theexcellent combination of musicaltalent.
I have for sale, cheap, some olsolcelots, in Nemaha City, for those whowant to build. Wat. H. Hoover.
A ticket beaded "TemperanceTicket," printed at the Granger office, has been placed in our hands. Thenames on this ticket are as follows:J. L. Carson, for Mayor ; police judge,L. L. Hulburd ; Clerk, B. B.Thomp-son ; Treasurer, T. li. Schick ; Mar-
shall Wm. H. Lorance; Councilman,First Ward, W. A. Polock; SecondWard, B. M. Bailey; Third Ward,John S. Miuick. We do not knowthe getter up of this ticket, but itseems to us to have been not wellconsidered; for Judge Hulburd, Mr.Thompson, Mr. Schick, Mr. Baileyand Mr. Minick, have each author-ized us to say to the voters of thiscity, that their names are used onBaid ticket without their knowledgeor consent; that they are not, andwill not be candidates for the officesfor which their names are used, andthat if elected, would not serve. Thepeople must be on their guard agaiustdeceptive, or "bogus" tickets, and lettheir be a free and fair election, andthe will of the majority respected andenforced.

His arrest wasadvised by at least some of hip friends, for the purpose of vindicating thetemperance and to give Mr. Nickellan opportunity to vindioate himselfof the numerous charges and rumorstbot be was iilioitly and constantlyselling intoxicants to topers and ev-

XICKELL'S STATEMENT.
To my friends, and the people of Nemahacounty :
A complaint was entered againBtme, before Judge Stull, on the 27thinst., for selling spirituous liquorscontrary to law. I was selected asthe object of personal malice, to further the ends of jealousy and hatredon the part of persons in Brownville,
lation of a law which, with ravself.every druggist and physician inBrownville is guilty of violating. Isent for the proseouting attorney; Itold him I knew that when I sold iton a physician's prescription it was aviolation of law ; that when I sold Itfor sacramental purposes it was a vio-lation of law; and when Isold it tothe dentist, or to the hotel to burn inlamps, It was a violation of the law;that if he would recognize the rightto sell in these extreme oases, then Iwas in no wise guilty. He at firstsaid lie would not prneecute in thoseextreme case9, but afterwards said hewould make no exceptions at all, noradmit any right at all, under the law.I then saw an attorney, and he toldme that we were just as guilty sellingon a physioian's prescription, or forsacramental purposes, under the lawof the State, as if we had sold it In-
discriminately, and quoted the latedecision of the Supreme Court con-firming hiB statement. The State lawsays, that "under no pretext whatev-er" is a man permitted to sell or giveaway liquors without a license. Thisat once does away with ita medicaluse. He advised me to plead guilty,as it was a malicious prosecution. andthey would runup the cost all the'could, and if they could not convicton any other counts they would thenfall back and convict on prescriptionand sacramental snips, so as to throwme into the cost. On his advice Iplead guilty, but have been sorry eversince I did so; for there is a time-honor- ed
custom throughout theChristian world that we, as druggists, have a right to sell spirituous liquorsfor sacramental purposes, and onphysioian's prescriptions.
Now. I do not intend to compro-mise my friends, so that they will bemade to suffer. It is for them that Imake this statement, and not on myown account. I have not, as it hasbeen charged, sold liquors indiscrimi-nately. Those statements are purelygratuitous, and he who makes themis a slanderer, and a cowardly assas-sin. I know some of these men.Timeand time again have they sentparties to me for liquors without hav-ing their malevolentdesigns gratified. And persons for whom I now haveprescriptions on file, given on theplea of sickness in family, wouldboast that I sold them whiskey, muchto my injury. These same personsare carrying concealed weapons, andtaking the name of God in vain daily,in violation of existing State laws, and yet they hound and traduce me,to the edification of the vile and cow-
ardly. I am a temperance man andwill still continue to be, wich all this.I forgive all such men, and expeot toso conduct my business in the futureaB to still incur the jealousy of themalevolent and vile.
After the election, when I havethe leisure, I will publish the namesof tbose who have obtained spirits onprescriptions, and are now trying toinjure me and my friends. The com-
munity shall see who these cowardsare. I do not wish now to influenceanyone against temperance, andthose who are working for it. Wewill then see how malicious the liesare in tbiB Shafer matter, as well aB

Capt. Jno. Ii. Carson is announ-ced as a candidate for Mayor on the"City Tioket," and it is due hhn tosay that in accepting this position onthe ticket he has not consulted hisambition, desires or interest; butsuffers himself to be pressed into theservice by tbe importunities of thepeople. Mr. Carson bad declinedagain and again to agree for his nameto be used, but finally upon tbe solic-
itation of a.written request very gen-
erally signed by gentlemen of differ-ent parties, and different viewB upontbe license question, he reluctantlyconsented. While his character andviews upon temperance matters arewell defined and praiseworthy, thereare other questions, of a financial na-
ture, of vital importance, which may.need the attention of a clear headedbusiness Mayor, during this year, andit has been universally conceded thatMr. Carson would be, as Mayor in1830, tbe right man in the right place. We hope to Bee Capt. Carson theunanimous choice of tbe people, as isdue him under tbe cirnumBtance?.
