School Reports - new format

All school reports will be sent home at the end of this term. As a whole staff we have been working on the school report format and as such the report you receive may look different from previous reports. We have included the mandatory A-E grades for Year 1 to Year 6 as developed by the Board of Studies, bringing Coffee Camp Public School in line with other schools throughout the State. Under Literacy and Numeracy we have added indicators and/or outcomes of what each child has been working towards achieving during Semester 1. These are State wide standards and the students are measured against these to determine grades.

Please read the following guide used for determining a grade. A child who is on track will be awarded a grade of C for academic achievement. At Coffee Camp Public School we use explicit teaching methods to meet the educational needs of each individual in the class, and promote a culture of high expectations so that all students may achieve their full potential.

A The student has an extensive knowledge and understanding of the content and can readily apply this knowledge.

In addition, the student has achieved a very high level of competence in the processes and skills and can apply these skills to new situations.

B The student has a thorough knowledge and understanding of the content and a high level of competence in the

processes and skills. In addition, the student is able to apply this knowledge and these skills to most situations.

C The student has a sound knowledge and understanding of the main areas of content and has achieved an ade-

quate level of competence in the processes and skills.

D The student has a basic knowledge and understanding of the content and has achieved a basic level of compe-

tence in the processes and skills.

E The student has an elementary knowledge and understanding in few areas of the content and has achieved very

limited competence in some of the processes and skills.

Academic achievement isn’t the only important information reported at this time. One of the most important components of our reports is the ‘effort’ grade, indicating overall classroom effort and commitment to individual, group and class work. We also very much value the social skills and abilities of our students, and indicate progress in these areas.

All teachers are very happy to have a meeting if you have any questions about your child’s current report and we will continue to set time aside each year in Term 1 and 3 for parent/teacher interviews.

Finally, we are only trialling this format and I would appreciate any feedback. I will dedicate some time at a Term 3 P&C Meeting to have a discussion about written reports. Jane Varcoe, Principal

The letter for this week is Vv and the letter for next week is Dd.

Please help your child by writing the letter, making its sound and finding words which start with that letter.

Peer Support Program

Lesson 7 – The best way to play

During Peer Support this week the children will be looking at how to play in a friendly way in order to maintain friends and build positive relationships. Through various activities children will discover the importance of taking turns and having consistent rules throughout a game.

This week help your child practise these skills by encouraging them to play games with siblings, family or friends.

What’s happening here?

Ask your children what they are doing in this activity.

Baha’i classes to resume next term

For many years the Baha’i faith has been among the religions offered to students at Coffee Camp, but not this year so far, because the three previous teachers weren’t available.

After the July holidays the Baha’i classes will start up again. Rosa Bennett will return to teach the years 5 and 6 and Bill Henderson will now teach the younger students.

Canberra News - 11 sleeps to go...

PACER Rebate Students will soon be visiting our national capital and will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational activities which focus on Australia’s history, culture, heritage and democracy as per the itinerary they have received.

The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist families in meeting the cost of the Canberra excursion the Australian Government is contributing $60 per student under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program.

The rebate is paid directly to the school on completion of the excursion. We have taken this $60 into account when working out the final costing per student for the excursion as per the payment plan sheet which was sent home last week.

Questions or concerns If you have any questions or concerns or information about medication or special needs please contact the school as soon as possible. If any information has changed since completing the medical and emergency contact forms please let us know.

Waterproof Gloves Remember to pack waterproof gloves. All other snow gear will be provided.

Fundraising Thank you to all the students and their families who baked to provide cakes for selling on 8th & 15th June. The money raised will go towards paying for Monday breakfast and Friday dinner.

Little Athletics Training on two Thursdays On Thursday 16th and Thursday 23rd we will have some trainers from the Little Athletics Program visiting the school. They will be giving lessons in sprints, relays and field events such as long jump and shot put in preparation for the athletics carnival early next term. They will help nominate students

All students need to wear suitable shoes for running and jumping. The school is covering the cost of this visit.

Term 4 Excursion for Year 3/4 students

An excursion to Midginbil Hill is planned for 14-16th November for students in Years 3 & 4 at Coffee Camp and Blakebrook School. At this stage the cost is approximately $230.

Students have been given an expression of interest note. Please return this by 24th June so that we know how many to book for. If you have questions please contact the school.
