Code of Ethics is a mandatory rule book that every company holds of their own. The ethics policies that I chose were from Rolls Royce and Intel. Their codes of ethics do cover a lot of the same things such as diversity, anti-bribery, competition, running the company using accurate records and corruption. This shows that both companies have similar aspects of work ethics and care for the reputation of their company. First, discussing Rolls Royce code of ethics more specifically, they have had a long history of conducting business and Sir Henry Royce likes to go by a certain motto of his stating, “ Whatever is rightly done, however humble is noble.” This shows that their reputation and the ways of working are very important. Their policy is classified in five different categories. The first category, “Working together,” includes rules such as discrimination & harassment, confidentiality & representation, performance & opportunity and much more. The second category, “Conducting our business,” includes competition & export control, anti-bribery & corruption, gifts & hospitality, dealing fairly with customers, suppliers & joint ventures. Thirdly, “Running our company,” issues the matter on corporate governance, safeguarding assets, accuracy & integrity in business records. Next, “Health, safety and environment,” states rules about health & safe working and products & operations. Finally, “Working within our communities,” talks about respecting other countries and charitable donations and wellbeing of the public. However, Intel’s policy has a slightly different format than Rolls Royce. They also have five categories, which are “ Conduct Business with Honesty and Integrity,” “Follow the Letter and Spirit of the Law,” “ Treat Each Other Fairly,” “Act in the Best Interests of Intel and Avoid Conflicts of Interest,” “Protect the Company’s Assets and Reputation.” Although the codes are placed

They also have five categories, which are “ Conduct Business with Honesty and Integrity,” “Follow the Letter and Spirit of the Law,” “ Treat Each Other Fairly,” “Act in the Best Interests of Intel and Avoid Conflicts of Interest,” “Protect the Company’s Assets and Reputation.” Although the codes are placed under different categories than Rolls Royce, they both contain the same rules in both documents.

I think Rolls Royce’s policy is slightly better because it also talks about how to deal with a situation that violates the code of ethics more so than just stating the facts. For example, Rolls Royce has information on different roles of management and their responsibilities. Also, their code of ethics gives a person a more comfortable feeling about how to speak up if you believe there is an ethical implication. Intel has a good ethics policy but isn’t the best in all aspects of matter. For example, the code of ethics is described correctly and covers all the material but doesn’t really contain any consultation of the reaction on some of the serious situations.

Now comparing these specific codes of ethics with the professional society’s code of ethics, IEEE, they seemed to follow each other pretty accurately. Rolls Royce and Intel do a very good job conforming to the IEEE code of ethics because most of the main points in IEEE policy is listed in the company’s code of ethics too. For example, rejecting bribery in all forms, being honest with company paperwork & financial assets, and making responsible decisions regarding public safety, health & welfare are all listed in both companies ethics policy. This illustrates that

these globally known companies follow professional societies code of ethics to keep their reputation and enhance quality business.

All the ethical theories are used in some way in every code of ethics. In Rolls Royce ethics policy, the rights ethics is more so imposed than the others. The company cares more about the rights of every individual and the permission to act of a rights holder. The reason being for this ethical theory would be to keep the customers’ & company’s reputation globally,

Intel is more based upon the duty ethical theory because they want to just follow the rules & laws. They respectfully treat humanity but they are more possessive over their brands & products & find it their duty to protect their copyrighted products from other companies or viewers. Also, they acknowledge that their laws are equally applied to everyone.
