1 GENERAL

1-1 PURPOSE

The CMC-E Computer of BES was put through an electromagnetic compatibility radiated susceptibility test in order to measure the intensities of emissions conducted and radiated from it and its susceptibility to such interference and to verify its combatibility with the specifications requirements.

This document details the tests results.

1-2 APPLICABLE DOCUMENTS

MIL-STD-461E - Requirements for the Control of Electromagnetic Interference Emissions and Susceptibility (20 August 1999).

BES, CMC-E Quqlification Procedure, BES, Doc. No. 20624050-405 Rev. A, 1/1/07.

1-3 TESTS PERFORMED

Tests in accordance with MIL-STD-461E

• CE102 - Conducted Emissions, Power Leads, 10 kHz - 10 MHz

The Unit Under Test (UUT) was a Mission Computer manufectured by BES:

Part Number: 20624100-100

Serial Number: 001

1-4.1 Units Description

The UUT has five connectors on its front panel:

1-5 TEST SETUP AND UUT OPERATION

The Unit Under Test (UUT) was placed in the testing chamber of the shielded test laboratory on a grounding surface, and grounded to the surface via a short conductor.

The UUTs was powered from 28Vdc filtered source through LISN. The power cable between the LISN and the UUT was 2.5m long, unshielded.

LAN cable was connected to J2 of the UUT by a 3m long shielded cable.

Both cables were raised by 5 cm from the conductive table

During tests – a network monitoring program was running between the PC monitor and the UUT.

1-6 CRITERIA FOR SUSCEPTIBILITY TO INTERFERENCE

Emissions tests: The system was considered to meet the emissions tests requirements if its RF outputted signals were within the MIL-STD-461E allowed levels.

Susceptibility tests: The UUT was considered as immune to electromagnetic interference if the Monitor PC display is refreshed continuesly and no interruptions occur to it.

1-7 BONDING OF THE UUT

Bonding of the UUT to the testing conductive table was performed with short grounding strips to achieve the required DC impedance. The DC resistance is detailed in the following table

• At 10 kHz to 1 MHz range: Stepped scan rate of 0.05*fo

• At 1 MHz to 30 MHz range: Stepped scan rate of 0.01*fo

• At 30 MHz to 200 MHz range: Stepped scan rate of 0.005*fo

At each tuned frequency the dwell time was 1 sec.

The actual applied current to the tested wire/harness is presented in figures Figure 4-6 to Figure 4-8.

4-6 FAILURE CRITERIA

As detailed in paragraph 1-6.

4-7 RESULTS

No susceptibility to interference was found during this test.

5-4 TEST SETUP AND PROCEDURE

5-4.1 Calibration

The calibration was set up as per MIL-STD-461E, Figure RE102-5. Calibration was checked at frequencies of 29MHz, 195MHz, 1GHz and 18 GHz

Calibrated signal, which is 2 dB below the limit, was applied to the coaxial cable at the antenna connection point. For the rod antenna, the calibration signal was applied to the matching network at the rod calibration point.

The calibration results are presented in Figure 5-3.

5-4.2 UUT Testing

The UUT testing setup was as per MIL-STD-461E Figure RE102-5 and the following Figure 10-2.

The signals emitted from the UUT were measured at the antenna output ports using the spectrum analyzer.

Due the UUT size, one antenna position was required for this test.

5-4.3 Results Presentation

The results are shown in the following figures. The graphs include the testing limits.

All required correction factors were added to the ploted signals.

6-4 TEST SETUP AND PROCEDURE

6-4.1 Setup

A schematic setup of the test is shown in is as shown in Figure 6-1. The actual setups for the various antennas used are shown in Figure 6-2.

The power for use by the UUT was supplied from the LISNs to the UUT.

The EUT was bonded to the ground plane. All power and interconnecting leads are supported on insulated standoff 5cm above the ground plane.

The radiating antenna was centered in front of the UUT setup boundary.

The field sensor was placed on the conductive test table in front of the system cables.

The E field probe connected to the multimeter that monitored the interfering signal level. A PC controller controlled the signal level and changes in accordance the amplitude level of the Signal Generator. The multimeter was set to DC Voltage measuring mode.

6-4.2 Calibration

The electric field sensors were placed on the UUT directly opposite to the transmitting antenna. The ambient level measured by the electric field sensors was less than 0.1 V/m.

6-4.3 UUT Testing

The following testing procedure is controlled by the PC Controller via the GPIB bus.

The signal source (CW) was set to 10 kHz frequency.

The required electric field was established by applying the signal through an appropriate amplifier and transmitting antenna.

The field amplitude was tuned to the required level (“maintain performance”) according the reading of the field sensor.

The signal source was set to 1 kHz pulse modulation, 50% duty cycle.

The dwell time at each tuned frequency was 1 second, after which the test proceeded to the next testing frequency.

The required frequency was scanned at the rate of depicted in MIL-STD-461E Table III.

At frequencies up to 30 MHz the test was performed with the transmitting antenna vertically polarized. At frequencies above 30 MHz the test was performed with the transmitting antenna once vertically polarized and once horizontally polarized.

The actual applied electric field is measured by the E field sensor that is connected to the multimeter. The level measured by the multimeter is recorded by the PC controller that also monitored the interfering signal level.

Due the UUT size, one antenna position was required for this test.
