A Letter from the President These past six months have flown by fast and summer is upon us! Great things are

in the works with CLSHRM. Last month, Troy Guilbeaux and Sandy Mask kicked off

our community project with the Central Louisiana Business Incubator (CLBI). It was

clear from the first night, these small businesses need this service and are so eager

to learn. Please reach out to Troy if you are interested in teaching one of the seg-

ments, this is a great way to earn HRCI credits towards recertification.

Our nomination committee, led by Candy Saucier, will be reaching out to some of you

very soon to gauge your interest for some of the positions that are open for

2015. VP of Membership, Treasurer, and President-Elect, along with committee

chairs. If you have an interest, please reach out to Candy to let her know you are

open for consideration. We hope to have elections in August or September of this

year. The 2015 President-Elect will accompany Jeff Ryan, our 2014 President-Elect

to the SHRM leadership conference in November, which is held in Washington DC.

We have exciting programming coming up this summer. June 18, our very own Leigh

Ann Purvis will present an engaging presentation on “Marketing your HR Depart-

ment”. July 16, Lynn Billing will present “Emerging Strategies for the Evolving Work-

force” and August will be our partnership meeting with Louisiana PHO where another

one of our members, Wesley Watkins will be presenting.

Last month was our first sponsored meeting by Scott Lasseigne with APS Pay-

roll. These sponsorships help our chapter by covering our monthly meeting expenses such as room rentals. We are very

thankful to our sponsors. The June meeting will be sponsored by Derrek Barfield with Gilsbar Health and Benefit Man-

agement, July will be sponsored by Spherion Staffing, and August will be sponsored by Louisiana PHO.

Finally, we have some exciting news about our upcoming seminar in October. Traci O’Brien is doing a wonderful job pull-

ing everything together. Our keynote speaker will be Todd Hunt, speaking on “Communication Bleeps and Blunders in

Business” – funny, true examples of how we miscommunicate with customers, candidates and coworkers, and how we

can improve. We are hoping you will invite managers, supervisors and other employees from your companies as this

year’s seminar will appeal to HR and non-HR alike. Stay tuned for more details as well as sponsorship opportunities. If

Leigh Ann Purvis

About Leigh Ann:

Originally from Clinton, MS

My husband, Dan, and I met while attending different

graduate schools and were engaged within 9

months. Until we married in 2003, we had never

lived closer than 2 1/2 hours from each other!

2 Children-daughter, Lindsey (7) and son, Austin

(4). Although the rest of our family is in MS, my sis-

ter and her family live here in Alexandria.

Education:

MBA from Mississippi State University

BBA from Delta State University

(double majored in Management & Marketing)

Certified Professional in Human Resources

Things About Me:

I am very goal-oriented and have a passion for

helping others succeed

I enjoy traveling, cooking, and keeping up with the

news. I am also an admitted Candy Crush addict!

If I could vacation anywhere in the world, it would be Australia

My favorite subject in school was Organizational Behavior

It’s kind of funny, but for various reasons, I have become known among my close friends as an advo-

cate for wearing sunscreen and motorcycle helmets, flossing, drinking tap water, and getting colon-

oscopies after age 50. My latest cause is the YWCA, where I serve as board secretary.

I don’t think I will ever stop working or otherwise being productive. At some point in my life, I want

to work with college students full-time. I want to write a book. I may go back to school. When I’m 80,

I can see myself working in the Christmas store at Disney World or sorting Legos at LegoLand.

Employment:

Roy O Martin—2003 to Present—Creative Development Manager: I am responsible for producing a

variety of marketing and communications materials for worldwide distribution. Previous work experi-

ence includes HR Management and teaching college-level business classes.

An inspirational quote for me is John 16:33 “I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I

have overcome the world”.
