PALS

Maybe you are new to 4-H and you don’t know how everything works. Maybe you are a long time volunteer and want to see give your input into the direction of the program. Maybe you are a member and want to help guide your 4-H career. PALS is the place for you! PALS is the leaders’ group for the Rowan County 4-H program. PALS is charged with guiding the 4-H program, planning fundraising activities to help offset costs of programs, and building community within the Rowan County 4-H program. It is essential that as many voices as possible are represented at PALS to ensure that every member and potential member can be reached in an effective manner. If you care about the future of the Rowan County 4-H program, your participation in the advisory process is essential. The next PALS meeting will be on October

12 at 6:00 pm at the Rowan County 4-H office.

RACE

As PALS functions as an advisory and oversight group for the entire 4-H program, RACE exists to provide guidance and oversight to the horse program here in Rowan County. RACE meetings are open to any member, parent, or leader involved in the Rowan County 4-H Horse program. These meetings set policy and the group plans and implements all of the county wide horse events throughout the year. If you are involved in any way with the 4-H horse program here in Rowan County, please consider attending the next RACE meeting on October 17 at the Rowan County 4-H

Junior Leader Club Rowan County 4-H is excited to announce the Jr. Leader Club. This club is for members age 12 (as of January 1, 2017) and older. Jr. Leaders will be a club focused on community service, leadership, and fun. When fully operational, the Jr. Leader club will serve as ambassadors for 4-H in the community and serve as mentors to younger 4-H members. Basically, this is the future leadership of our county’s 4-H program. This will also be my primary marketing outlet for district and state activities and a great way

to take your 4-H membership to the next level.

This year’s theme is “We Are Rowan” and our service learning will deal with giving back to our community. The next meeting of the Rowan Jr. Leader Club will be October 5, 2017 at 6:30 p.m. at the 4-H Office. The November meeting will be on November 2,

2017. Please call Mr. Matthew with any questions.

4-H Science Night

Another new program, for me anyway, will be 4-H Science Night. On October 3, 2017 at 5:30 pm, come join Rowan County 4-H for a night of STEM exploration and participate in the National 4-H Youth Science Project. Youth will work in teams of 4-5 and design and build wearable fitness trackers! This program will be limited to 30 participants and is open to all youth in Rowan County ages 9-18. To sign up for 4-H Science Night, please call the Rowan County Extension Office at 704-216-8970.

Winter Food Show

The annual Rowan County 4-H Winter Food Show will be on December 2, 2017 at the Rowan County Extension Office. The theme this year is “Holiday Foods Around the World”. Youth may enter up to two categories: beverage, appetizer, side dish, main dish, and dessert. Youth also need to provide all settings and table decorations for their entry. Entries are due by November 17, 2017 and all entries are electronic;
