    one:Interpreting:

Read the text carefully and do the activities below.

Nowadays scientists can make copies of plants, animals and even human beings. We call this

cloning. There is nothing new about cloning at all.Ancient Greeks cloned plants over 4000 years ago

and the first cloned frog appeared in 1968 . In 1997,Dr Ian Wilmut and other follow researchers

from Edinburgh University , Scotland , managed to clone an adult sheep from a single cell to

produce a lamb(Dolly) with the same genes as its mother.

Today , we can use genetic engineering technology to produce genetically modified food

(GMFs).Scientists can copy and transfer individual genes from one living organism to another in

order to make plants more productive and more resistant to deseases and pests. However,

some people refuse to eat GMFs.They consider that biological products are safer.Cloning can

help doctors to cure genetic diseases and may stop the ageing process . However , this will

interfere with human nature . While some scientists welcome the cloning for reseach , others are

    anxious about what may fellow.

1)Find out the topic sentence from the text.

    2)Choose the right answer.

    a) producing new species.

-Cloning means: b)making an exact copy of a living being.

    c) producing various cells.

    3)Answer the following questions.

a)Is cloning something new?Justify your answer from the text.

b)What can genetic engineering technology be used for?

    c) How can scientists make plants more productive ?

d)Do people like GMFs ? Why?

4)Find in the text words or phrases that are closest in meaning to :

    a-are able to = b-worry =

5)Find in the text words or phrases that are opposite in meaning to:

    a-failed =/= b-accept =/=

    Section two:Study of Language.

a-Cloning may stop the ageing process..it will cause health problems.

b-Genetic engineering technology interfere with human nature. most

    people are anxious about it.

c-Genetic engineering technology is used in agricultureincrease the

    production.

3)Rewrite the following sentences using the appropriate tenses.

a-If we (to use) genetic engineering technology in agriculture,we would . . increase food

    production.

b-You (to have) health problems if you eat GMFs.

    4)Complete with comparatives.

a-Biological products are ( safe ) and (good) than GMFs.

b-GMFs are (resistant) but less natural than biological food.

5)Identify the stressed syllables in the following words.

    a- genetic b - production

    c- technology d- follow

    Section three:Written.

    Complete the following conversation.

A:Have you heard about that cloned sheep?

    B:,but?

    A:Of course,its true.

B:.?A:A team of British scientists of the Roselin Institute in Scotland.
