In March, our Year 5 pupils got the chance to take part in a four day ‘Residential Visit’ to Derwent Hill Outdoor Centre. The children had a great time, completing a range of challenges and tasks that tested their skill, bravery
and endurance. They succeeded in impressing everyone who worked with them, because of their great attitude and excellent manners.
The staff who accompanied them also enjoyed the
chance to work with the children in a different environment. Well done to everyone who took part...You did us proud!!

The Look of Love
It has been great to see
so many of our
parents, grand parents
and family members in
school to watch the
performances each
Year Group has given
in their assembly.
We feel it is essential
that we let you see just
what your children
have been working on
across the curriculum
and to do it in the form
of an assembly allows
them to experience
’performing’ in front
of a packed audience!
This term, we had
Reception showing us
their take on the
season of ’Winter’.
We also joined Year 3
for their portrayal of
’A day in the life of
Year 3’ and this week,
has allowed Year 5 to
demonstrate their
knowledge and
understanding of
Space! Well done to
everyone who took
part, a big thank you
to staff for their hard
work in getting the
show onto the stage
and many thanks to all
of you who came
along and made each
assembly a special
one.
EASTER NEWSLETTER
Daydream Believer On February 28th, we were all full of anticipation for the big day! We had our ‘Red & White Day’ here at Mill Hill, to show our support for
Gus and the Boys as they prepared for the Capital One Final. We had lots of activities in school, face painting, red and white biscuits
and we even showed the 1973 FA cup final, in the hope that it would bring Sunderland a bit of luck……..
Bicycle Race
A big thank you to Dr. Bike aka Mark O’Keeffe, for his excellent work/support this term. As the light nights and good weather approach, it has been great to get Mark’s help in ensuring that our children can ride their bikes safely. This has been in many forms, our Year 6 children enjoyed a great day at Herrington Park, our younger pupils had a ’Stabiliser Free’ day and Dr. Bike set up his workshop to give any bike brought in a ’service’ free of charge.
WORD UP
A big ‘well done’ to everyone for their efforts on ‘World Book Day’. It was great to see everyone dressed as their favourite book character and we had a fantastic day in school giving stories our complete focus! We had Theatre Works in school giving a performance of ‘Stig of the Dump’ , Steve Finley, a local poet working with Year 6 and Tony Cox, literacy consultant, worked with Year 3 on their story writing.

Headline Quiz
A small prize for the first 3 people who can list the artists who had hits with ALL of our ‘Headlines’.
Count on Me
We have had lots of positive feedback following Mrs. Osmond’s ‘Maths Update’ sessions for parents. We recognise how important it is to keep parents up to speed with the methods we use in school and appreciate the effort made by everyone who took part.

ANGELS
As we approach Easter, we were pleased to accept the offer made by St. Matthews ‘School /Parish ‘ team to work with our Year 6 children. The focus of their work was The Easter Story. Our pupils met the team at the church and were able to use the paintings, images and icons around the church to explore in detail the events of the story.
The Modern World
In our drive to ensure that Mill Hill Pri-mary School prepares its pupils for whole life learning, we have invested in a brand new ICT suite. We were lucky enough to have the official opening ceremony car-ried out by our local MP, Ms. Bridget Phillipson. As well as opening the suite, Ms. Phillipson also met with the school council for a question & answer session about her role as an MP.
Take Good Care of Yourself
Our Year 6 children got the chance to take part in the ‘Safety Works’ programme, or-ganised by the Emergency Ser-vices to highlight the risks children can encounter when they are ‘playing out’ in the community. The pupils were given an opportunity to see for themselves the dangers in such places as building sites and Metro tracks , as well as being given advice on the risks from fire. We know it is tough infor-mation for children to take on board, but we feel it is essential that we inform our young peo-ple to enable them to stay safe. Many thanks to PCSO Alex Downs for organising the trip.

This would be a good place to insert a short paragraph about your organization. It might in-
clude the purpose of the organization, its mission, founding date, and a brief history. You
could also include a brief list of the types of products, services, or programs your organization
offers, the geographic area covered (for example, western U.S. or European markets), and a
profile of the types of customers or members served.
It would also be useful to include a contact name for readers who want more information about
the organization.
