PRINCIPAL’S REPORTFinally, a very warm welcome to all students as we return to face to face teaching and learning this week. To say staff are excited is an understatement! We have dearly missed the interaction with our children and have carefully planned for their return. Normal lessons will resume as of this week and students are required to return their Remote Learning packs to their class teacher.During the time that students have been learning from home I have worked closely with the P & C and local company Iconic Outdoors to put plans into place for the addition of two Nature Play areas. The community P & C fundraising that has taken place over the past 18 months along with a collaboration of ideas from students, parents and staff will see some action in our playground in the coming weeks. I would also like to thank Mr Pavy, our GA for creating a mud kitchen for the area!

We hope you like our new newsletter design. Mrs McCallum has worked hard to produce a quality format for sharing our latest news. Thanks Mrs McCallum!

TRANSITION TO KINDERGARTEN TO COMMENCE WEEK 6We are thrilled to be welcoming our new Transition students on Tuesday 2 June. Mrs Hewitt will be in touch with each family this week to discuss a staggered starting time so that students can comfortably transition during their first few weeks with appropriate social distancing of parents as well. We are very conscious of making their first days at school positive and special. If you haven’t submitted the enrolment forms for your child please do so as soon as possible.

ARCO – ANTI RACISM CONTACT OFFICERIn keeping with Department of Education guidelines, we are required to have a trained Anti-Racism Contact Officer (ARCO) on site. The officer for our school is Mrs Jackson. Part of this role is to assist parents, staff and students who have complaints regarding racism and to help facilitate the complaints handling process. If you need to make contact with our school regarding racism, please contact the front office and organise an appointment time with Mrs Jackson.

GUIDELINES FOR RETURNING TO FACE TO FACE LEARNINGAll schools are returning to full on-campus learning from Monday 25 May. All school activities and operations will be in line with Australian Health Protection Principal CommitteeExternal link (AHPPC) and NSW Health guidelinesExternal link as applicable.School students do not need to follow strict adult physical distancing guidelines, but should follow good hygiene practices like:• regularly washing hands• no sharing drinks or food• coughing or sneezing into your elbow, or a tissue which should be discarded immediately

School AttendanceAll students should be at school unless:• they have a medical certificate which states that they are unable to return to school due to an ongoing medical condition• they are currently unwell.

Reporting and AssessmentYour child has been assessed during the learning from home period and will receive additional assessment on their return to school. To allow teachers more time with our students face to face prior to reporting, our school will be holding 3-Way interviews this term in Weeks 9 and 10. You will then receive your child’s Semester 1 report in Week 2 of Term 3. This will be a simplified version of the report you normally receive.

School ActivitiesTeachers will continue to follow the same school curriculum with the exception of some activities that can’t go ahead for now.

What Children Can Do• Use the school library• Engage in non-contact sporting activities

What Students Can’t Do• School assemblies (unless for critical information)• School incursions and excursions • Inter-school activities (debating, inter-school sport)• In-school activities requiring parent or other volunteers• Drink from a water bubbler – bring a water bottle instead

School Cleaning and Hygiene SuppliesOur school has received additional cleaning in line with the AHPPC guidelines and advice from NSW Health. Target areas include high-touch areas and other hard surfaces, door handles, light switches, handrails and movement areas. There will also be additional cleaning of toilets and bubblers and topping up of supplies like soap. Our school has received supplies of soap, hand sanitiser, toilet paper, paper towels, disinfectant wipes and personal protective equipment. The school is able to order more as needed.

School GroundsThere should be no visitors to school sites unless they are essential. The school can provide guidance as to who is considered essential. Our Kiss and Drop parking areas will remain in place. Please ensure you follow road rules and complete u-turns at the appropriate place, not in front of the school across double lines.

NATIONAL SORRY DAY 26 MAY AND NATIONAL RECONCILIATION WEEK 27 MAY TO 3 JUNENational Sorry Day acknowledges and raises awareness of the history and continued effect of the forced removal of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people from their families, communities and culture. National Reconciliation Week celebrates and builds on the respectful relationships shared by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and other Australians. The students will take part in activities within their classroom to acknowledge both of these special events on our calendar.

VIRTUAL REALITY COMES TO CLERGATEWe have been fortunate to be able to borrow a VR (Virtual Reality) kit until the end of Term 3 from the STEM share library. In the coming weeks, teachers will undergo professional learning on using the kits in the classroom. This amazing technology will allow our students to be guided on tours of famous landmarks, discover the inner workings of the human brain and explore our solar system, just to name a few! No doubt in the coming weeks students will be sharing these incredible experiences with you.

SPEECH PATHOLOGISTIn 2020 we have planned to recruit a Speech Pathologist to provide specialist support to targeted students and assist parents in the areas of:

• Speech and language development• Articulation• Social skills - communication• Liaise with parents• Conduct parent workshops

Our school has partnered with the Orange Community Health Service. Senior Clinician, Lindsay Underwood will join our teaching team. On Thursday mornings she will work with individual students and small groups of students that have been identified as requiring assistance in one or more of the areas above and support parents as well. Consent forms will be sent home over the next week to students that we feel will benefit from this service. The service has been fully funded by the school and will be provided at no cost to parents.

PREMIER’S READING CHALLENGEThe PRC continues despite COVID-19! We all hope that time at home has meant more time for reading. Fingers crossed it won’t be long before the town library is open again as they have an excellent selection of books for all ages. Here is how to log on to the PRC site at home - it’s very user friendly: https://prcsupport.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/6000062941All that is required is your child’s department log in details that you used to sign into Zoom and the internet at school. Please contact your child’s teacher if you are unsure of what it is. Mrs Watson and myself will ensure we will be reading enough books as a class to complete the challenge. However, we always encourage reading as much as possible, so K-2 students are able to add their own books to their account. Students in Years 3-6 will need to take care of logging theirown books.
