Classroom Resources
Julio Sieiro
MEC-BC Bilingual Project
• It is a joint project between the British Council and the Spanish Ministry of Education which has been in operation since 1996.
• The aim is to provide pupils from the age of three to sixteen with a bilingual, bi-cultural education through an integrated curriculum based on the Spanish national curriculum and aspects of the National Curriculum for England.
• Subjects to be taught in English:- English (language and literacy): 5 hours- Science: 3 hours- Geography/History: 3 hours
• It is essential for Science and Geography teachers to work with English teachers to ensure that language skills and content targets are met.
• Project Teachers are either native speakers or highly proficient in the language. In any case the Qualified Teacher Status is required.
• In 4th ESO students are encouraged to take the exams for the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE-the world's most popular international qualification for 14–16 year olds):– English: 20 students out of 20 passed.– Math: 10 out of 10– Unfortunately our labs don't meet the criteria
set by Cambridge to take both the science and social studies exams.
• First Certificate: 10 out of 10 passed.
