    Absences

If a student is absent they will refer to school policy regarding the time limit for makeup

work. I will provide a folder with work from each day so they may refer to that if they are

absent. Alternatively, work will be listed on the class website

(http://www.missherlihysclass.blogspot.com/ ). Excuses will depend upon school policy. For

example, if school policy prevents makeup work when a student does not have a valid excuse,

    that policy will be enforced.

    Attendance

I will use the school networked system for taking attendance. I will either print out a

daily copy for my records or keep a written hard copy in case there are any discrepancies.

Attendance will be taken as soon as the bell rings. Tardies will be reported per school policy.

    Parent Contact

I will call and/or email the parents at the beginning of the year. If there are problems or a

drastic change in a students work, positive or negative, I will contact the parent. I will keep a

record of each time I discipline a student so that when I do have to call home regarding behavior

I will have be able to document past problems. Parental requests for additional contact will be

    handled on an individual basis.

    Syllabus

The syllabus for the class will be signed by the teacher, parent, and student so all are

aware of expectations. It will include rules, consequences, tentative test dates and the material

each test will cover, performance tasks and/or projects and tentative due dates for those. Rubrics

will be sent home as the performance tasks and/or projects are assigned. Other information

provided on the syllabus will include policies regarding absences, makeup work, and any

additional classroom procedure pertinent to the individual class (for example, if outside books

are required for an AP class). If available, a copy of the school handbook will be sent home

along with the syllabus and will require a signed acknowledgment of receipt by the parent.
