Tentative Class Outline Annie’s Project Annie was a woman who grew up in a small town in Northern Illinois. Her goal was to marry a farmer and she did. Annie spent her lifetime learning how to be an involved business partner with her farm husband. Together they did great things, but it wasn’t easy. This is Annie’s Project – to take her experiences and share it with women involved in agriculture. Objectives Annie’s project is designed to empower women in agriculture to manage information and learn about agriculture in a relaxed local network. The target audience is women with a passion for agriculture. Project Topics cover the five areas of Risk Management: Production, Market, Financial, Legal Risk, and Human Resources. 6:30 pm – Legal Risk Management – Entities, Contracts, and Agriculture Business Laws Affecting Commercial PoultryPaul Goeringer, Extension Legal Specialist, University of Maryland We will discuss the different forms of ownership or property titling that impacts the rights of each and every person: Sole Proprietor, Partnerships, Corporations, Joint Tenancy; Rights of Survivorship; Incorporation versus Partnership; along with contracts and laws that affect commercial poultry farms. 7:15 pm Nutrient Management Overview and Recordkeeping Sydney Young Riggi, Extension Agent, Nutrient Management There are many aspect to the Nutrient Management Program. Lean basic record keeping requirements related to the Nutrient Management Program along with an overview of the important aspects of the program you need to know as a poultry farmer.

5:30 pm - Understanding your Farm Insurance Policy Charlie Gray, Nationwide Insurance (Georgetown location)Farming can be a risky business, therefore farms should take measures to protect themselves.  This session will focus on insurance topics and policy information regarding liability protection and risk management.  It will also suggest points to ponder including ATVs, as well as production liability insurance and much more.

6:15 pm – Vegetative Environmental BuffersJim Passwaters, VEB Coordinator, Delmarva Poultry Industry Inc.What is a VEB and how does it work. Learn what poultry farmers are doing on their farm with buffers to improve the environment and neighbor relations.

This session will cover aspects of the attention to detail needed when it comes to understanding brooding, ventilation and water management during the flock.

Now that you have a mortgage on your farm and most likely other type of equipment loans, what is needed to be done in preparation for meeting with your lender annually? Learn what is required of borrowers and other loan options that are available through Farm Credit.

6:15 pm - Credit Reports and Personal FinanceMaria Pippidis, AFC, County Director and Extension Educator, Family and Consumer Sciences, UD Cooperative ExtensionCredit history or credit report is a record of an individual's past borrowing and repaying, including information about late payments and bankruptcy. When you fill out an application for credit from a bank, store or credit card company, their information is forwarded to a credit bureau. Therefore, it is important that you understand credit reports and know your credit score. We will cover how to read and access your credit report.

7:00 pm Colors Personality Test Tracy Wooten, Horticulture Agent, University of Delaware & Jenny Rhodes, Agriculture Educator, University of MD Extension The Personality I.Q. workshop is a spinoff of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicators. Using a simple series of word associations, participants will acquire a deeper understanding and insights of their personality style and work type. Hopefully this leads to clearer perceptions about ourselves and the different gifts we each bring to our families, work groups and personal relationships. This session will focus on many aspects of farm safety, and different options of litter management.

6:30 pm – “Show Me the Money” Do you understand your Poultry Settlement Statement/Sheet?Georgie Cartanza, Poultry Agent, University of Delaware Cooperative ExtensionEach integrator, who acquires poultry pursuant to a contract with a poultry grower, must prepare a true and accurate settlement statement/sheet and furnish it to the grower at the time of settlement. The settlement sheet must contain all information necessary to compute the payment due the poultry grower. This session will take you step by step through a poultry settlement statement. It is important to understand all the calculation on your settlement and how to make management decisions for the next flock.

Computers can increase farm efficiency by managing financial and production records. This session will review resources and tools such as Quickbooks, Excel and others that are available for agricultural businesses. Learn how Excel spreadsheets and Quickbooks will help maintain records and improve your farm business

Group discussion Participants will discuss tips they incorporate on their farms for how to make difficult tasks much simpler.Controllers set new standards in the poultry industry. Controllers enable poultry farmers to raise their flocks under the best conditions possible and reduce operating expenses while increasing your efficiency.
