Those students who start their freshman year in the fall of 2014 or 2015 (Classes of 2018 and 2019) will be subject to the new Ohio Graduation Testing Requirements. The current OGT will not be required, but you will instead take 7 tests at the end of courses as listed below. Although they are subject to changes or additional clarification, the new testing requirements look like this, effective January 31, 2015:

(spring 2015and beyond)

How many End of Year Tests Do I Have to Take?◦ Seven

What Scores on the EOY Tests Do I Need to Earn to Graduate from High School?◦ You Need 18 Points Total on the Seven Tests AND Enough

◦  Students will need minimum of 4 total points on the Two English Tests (i. e. Combined total of 4 points for your EOY tests taken for 9th gr Eng. and 10th grade Eng.)

Students receive materials for Registration during school- 3/3/2015

Students discuss with parents what classes and levels they feel are the best fit 3/3/15 to Sunday, 3/5/15.

NCAA Eligibility Center courses must be college prep classes or honors to meet eligibility standards.

Students meet with a counselor one-on-one to go over their class choices. (3/6)

Students will generally be scheduled for teacher recommended courses. If the parent does not agree they can submit a “Petition to Upgrade” to Connie Acra at the Jr School guidance office.

Your Course Registration Guide Is Available On Line

(1,200 students x 80 pages = 96,000 pages)

Changes in course selections will only be made due to balance class sizes or correct scheduling errors/conflicts.

Basically this means you need to choose your classes carefully and wisely! You cannot “change your mind” in August!

Any St. John’s student who is planning on attending Wm Henry Harrison High School must enroll in the high school before they can register for classes.

Registration packets are available down front tonight or in the Guidance office at the high school.

Southwest Local Schools is an Open Enrollment District

Open Enrollment applications must be submitted to the Superintendent of Schools between May 1 and May 30.

Interviews with the Superintendent will take place between June 1 and June 15

Freshman Open Enrollment students do not lose a year of eligibility from interscholastic sports.
