THE GIVING TREE Join us in our 8th year of supporting our sister church, St. Anthony Claret of Fresno, in reaching out to the campesinos outside of Fresno. These dedicated agriculture workers often need basic items such as jackets, socks, and hats. Take an “ornament” from the tree in either the Mis-sion or the Chapel and return your gift, with the “ornament” attached, by Sunday, De-cember 25. Together we can help. ———————————————————————————————————————————————————————————

DID YOU KNOW? We are all God’s children, and we all need protection Published on 12/17/2018

While a major part of preventing sexual abuse and exploitation is aimed at keeping young children safe, the focus and goal of the “Protecting God’s Children” program is to keep all people safe, including adults. By knowing the warning signs of different types of abuse and taking action to shut down abuse and offer protec-tion and support, we can help the most vulnerable among us, whoever they may be. For a copy of the complete VIRTUS® arti-cle, “Don’t Forget to Protect the Vulnerable Adults in Your Com-munity,” visit http://www.la-archdiocese.org/org/protecting/Pages/VIRTUS-Current-Online-Articles.aspx.

¿SABIA USTED?

Paz,

P. Juan

Dear Friends in Mission,

All of the readings for all the various Christmas liturgies proclaim the same mystery. God not only authors life and pours out grace in the midst of it, God chooses to join us in our lives by becoming one of us. Jesus enters into life that we might do the same. Whatever the circumstances of your life right now—grief or joy, struggle or success, faith or doubt—Jesus has lived it himself and he longs to live it with you. Let Him be born again in your heart. Allow him to enter into your moments and give you the life for which you were created.

On behalf of the entire Pastoral Team, I would like to thank you all for your generous welcome. Most of us were strangers, and you welcomed us. Thank you for your commitment to this faith com-munity and your sense of ownership. I wish to ex-tend our gratitude in a special way to the devoted members of the various ministries who carry out the Christian mandate to love and to serve.

Our Christmas prayer for all of you is that you and your families be filled with the blessings of peace, joy, love, and wonder.

We look forward to the New Year as walk togeth-er in striving to live the life that God dreams for us and that Jesus models for us.

Peace,

Fr. John

FAITH FORMATION UPDATES 626-988-9288 Connie Perez, Georgina Mayorga

Faith Formation Corner

Find the True Meaning of Christmas in L-O-V-E Children of all ages enjoy gifts on Christmas morning, but Catholic parents know that there is more to Christmas than presents. It is a celebration of hope fulfilled. God promised He would send us a savior, so we could live in Heaven with Him forever. He sent His own Son. This year let’s help our children experience the true meaning of Christmas by celebrating with L-O-V-E: L- Lower your outside activities. More than the gifts you give, children will cherish the Christmas memories you make. Limit the number of invitations you accept, and set aside extra family time, make a Jesse Tree, or an Advent wreath. This year put Christ back into your Christmas. O- Offer anticipation. Instead of focusing on gifts and lists, an-ticipate the Savor’s arrival by marking the days on an Advent calen-dar you make together. Light your advent candle each week and include a little prayer service and decorate your Nativity scene grad-ually. V- Visit. In addition to weekend Mass, make a special trip to the church so children may visit Jesus. Take Christmas cards you have received and pray for the people who sent them.

Shining Star

Meet this week’s shining star, she teaches from her heart and loves each of her 4th & 5th grade students in our Spanish pro-gram on Thursday evenings. Here’s her story…..

Miss Veronica Hernandez I teach catechism because it was a calling from God. I have been teaching for 4 years. I am a member of Brazos Abiertos. During one meeting there was an invitation to anyone who may be interested in becoming a catechist and I knew this is how I wanted to serve God. The Faith Formation program helps many children come to know and love God and helps me to follow God thru my work as a catechist. There was a year when I did not feel qualified to teach, but I had a dream and the Virgen told me I had to continue to teach and to learn more. The children motivate me at every class. When I am having a bad day it all disappears the moment I enter the classroom. I am then filled with joy; my students make me happy. God lifts me up and tells me that I must continue to help as many children as well as myself .

E- Extend love. An effective way to experience love at the holidays is to give it. Act with love, especially when dealing with family. Ex-tending patience and kindness during the holiday season can be a chal-lenge and a true act of love, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son…” (John 3:16).
