Communication
• communication IS THE ACTIVITY OF CONVEYING INFORMATION THROUGH THE EXCHANGE OF IDEAS, FEELINGS, INTENTIONS, ATTITUDES, EXPECTATIONS, PERCEPTIONS OR COMMANDS, AS BY SPEECH, NON-VERBAL GESTURES, WRITINGS, BEHAVIOR, ETC.
COMPONENTS OF EFFECTIVE Communication:
• RATE OF SPEECH (SPEAKS 2-3 WORDS PER SECOND)
• TONE (OUR TONE SHOULD VARY AS PER THE AUDIENCE EMOTIONAL NEEDS TOO)
• CHOICE OF WORDS (BE CLEAR AND CONCISE AND TRY NOT TO REPEAT SENTENCES )
THE SEVEN C’S OF EFFECTIVE Communication:
• THE MESSAGE IS SAID TO BE EFFECTIVE WHEN THE RECEIVER UNDERSTANDS THE SAME MEANING THAT THE SENDER WAS INTENDED TO CONVEY. FOR ANY communication IN BUSINESS, IN ORDER TO BE EFFECTIVE, IT MUST HAVE SEVEN QUALITIES. THESE SEVEN ATTRIBUTES ARE CALLED SEVEN C’S OF EFFECTIVE BUSINESS COMMUNICATION. (ALL THESE ATTRIBUTE STARTS WITH THE ALPHABET ‘C’ SO ARE CALLED 7 C’S)

SEVEN C’S OF EFFECTIVE Communication:
CLARITY:
• CLARITY MEANS TO USE CLEAR WORDS THAT ARE EASIER WITH RESPECT TO THE UNDERSTANDING OF PEOPLE WHOM YOU ARE TALKING TO. IT ENHANCES THE MEANING OF MESSAGE. TRY TO CONVEY APPROPRIATE AND CLEAR WORDS, NOT AMBIGUOUS THAT CAN MISLEAD OTHER.
• CLARITY INTENDS TO ENSURE THAT THE MEANING IS UNDERSTOOD AT THE OTHER END. TO ENSURE CLARITY FOLLOWING SHOULD BE DONE:
“CLARITY is the first step of the 7 stairs”
• A- CHOOSE PRECISE, CONCRETE AND FAMILIAR WORDS
• B- CONSTRUCT EFFECTIVE SENTENCES AND PARAGRAPHS
THE SENTENCES AND PARAGRAPHS SHOULD HAVE THESE QUALITIES:
I- A NORMAL LENGTH
II- UNITY; WHICH MEANS IT SHOULD REPRESENT A SINGLE IDEA
III- COHERENCE; WHICH MEANS IT SHOULD BE COMPOSED CORRECTLY.
IV- EMPHASIS; THE MAIN IDEA SHOULD BE EMPHASIZED PROPERLY IN ANY SENTENCE OR PARAGRAPH.

Accent:
• REGIONAL AND ETHNIC ACCENTS ARE POSITIVE; THEY ARE PART OF INDIVIDUAL PERSONALITY.
• GRADUALLY, OVER THE YEARS, THROUGH THE MIGRATION OF PEOPLE AND EXPOSURE TO THE MEDIA, ACCENTS ARE BEING BROKEN DOWN AND NEUTRALISED. IN SOME WAYS THIS IS A SHAME BECAUSE ACCENTS CAN ADD A DIMENSION AND DISTINCTIVENESS TO VOICE AND EMPHASISE INDIVIDUALITY.
WHY IS vocabulary SO IMPORTANT?
• Vocabulary, MUCH MORE THAN GRAMMAR, IS THE KEY TO YOUR CHILD UNDERSTANDING WHAT SHE HEARS AND READS IN SCHOOL; AND TO COMMUNICATING SUCCESSFULLY WITH OTHER PEOPLE. FOR THIS REASON IT IS VERY IMPORTANT FOR HER TO QUICKLY BUILD UP A LARGE STORE OF WORDS. RESEARCH STUDIES HAVE SHOWN THE STRONG LINKS BETWEEN HAVING AN EXTENSIVE vocabulary AND ACHIEVING SCHOOL SUCCESS

Pace & Pause:
• SLOW DOWN THE PACE: IT IS A NATURAL REACTION TO WANT TO GET IT OVER AS FAST AS POSSIBLE AND THIS OFTEN CAUSES PEOPLE TO STUMBLE OVER THEIR WORDS. SPEEDING UP ALSO OCCURS WHEN YOU ARE NERVOUS AND USUALLY MAKES YOU MORE DIFFICULT TO UNDERSTAND.
• KEEP YOUR HEAD UP: TRY NOT TO TUCK YOUR CHIN INTO THE BOOK AS YOUR VOICE IS THEN ADDRESSING THE FLOOR. HOLD YOUR BOOK HIGHER AND PROJECT YOUR VOICE.
• PAUSE OCCASIONALLY: LET THE END OF A SENTENCE OR THE END OF A PARAGRAPH GIVE YOU A CHANCE OF A SMALL, TWO OR THREE SECOND REST. PAUSES CAN BE USEFUL FOR EMPHASIS.
